No you don't :D Pathfinder is really set so that fighters can one-shot enemies at early levels. The game operates on a premise that adventurers go through multiple encounters  in a day, and the fighter's limiting aspect are his HP.

Ah, grease on the stairs! I like it Echo! I almost had Athos cast that on the ladder, but chose vanish instead!

I'll definitely give Athos a running penalty there, cos if i wasn't expecting it then Athos definitely wasn't!

Alsi, for those who don't know: Wulfere is away for a week and Murometz will be taking over korchels actions, because i didn't want to take over if possible, since i know what's gonna happen :p

Don't worry about som one-sided fights.  With 1st level characters, things can go upside down in a hurry:  One solid hit will drop any of us except the barbarian, and two solid hits would knock him out cold.

Echo's done a couple actions in his post to catch up to where everyone else is. I realize I've probably been getting a bit ahead of myself, so from now while we are in combat, I'll just post up one post and allow everyone to post a reply before I make another.

In some cases I may take some liberties with NPCs (such as how far lutha got in just a round or two). I'll try not to do that kind of thing too much, but if it so happens, try to work with me; im learning while I go with roleolaying rules and such, and sometimes my posts may seem a bit off.

Quick HP update:
Helgkhor is on 7
Aredhel is on 5
Atacuso is on 11
Korchel is on 2

Korchel got a big hit from Pig just then. He may want to take care! :o

As for your foes:
Athos is now on 0hp, and will die next round. I'm keeping him alive in case Atacuso or Aredhel have any last-second actions for him. You may ask him a question, but I don't know how well he will respond :p

Bubble is on a meagre 2hp
Pig remains in near pristine condition, with a massive 19hp.

As for the game itself, I apologise if it's been going slow or sluggish, or if i've missed things out etc... over the last week. I've had some RL personal issues which i've had to work through and it's not made me the happiest chap (Echo can attest to this :p Sorry sir!)
I'm not out of the woods as yet with those issues, but things seem to be looking up, so everything should become a bit smoother, hopefully.

Anyway; everyone's doing very well so far, and I look forward to seeing how the game pans out!  :up:

Actually, death is not until you are negative Con for hp.

I'm not rooting so much for the NPC but for the PC's on this point, especially with Pig untouched :)

I thought i read somewhere that for NPC's/monsters there was no 'dying' kind of state; just death - I thought i'd let Athos hold on for a round or so to give the guys a chance to squeeze a question in. It's not vital to the game - they have other tools at their disposal to find out what to do next, but I figured they'd want that much chance at least. :p S'no biggie.

Surviving the Chapel encounter has awarded the companions with treasure, and more importantly, experience!
+ 3xp all-around for the encounter itself.
+ 1xp all-around for the following highlights:
- Atacuso's perception check at the start, revealing alternate entrances,
 - Korchel's pirate impersonation and window-dive,
 - Aredhel's grease spell, which I hadn't even considered,
 - Helgkhor's ridiculous crit, and because "Shaagar's Icy balls!"

I like it, guys - Good storytelling or smart gaming will make me generous with xp!

While the coin that could be had for the books is good, I think we can use the contents down the road, especially considering they pertain to the locations of the ominous "X" on the map.
I will sell the gem, buy snacks for the band and especially Carus, and wrap the books in waxed linen or whatever is waterproof.

Clever boy :p You will probably find use to those books in their respective areas. I suggest having Aredhel slowly browse those books in his travels.

Even if those books don't hold any info useful to the quest, they will definitely sell for more to a collector in a properly established city, rather than shady thieves in Soglash!


Now, I have a confession to make: I haven't been tracking any of your starter gold. :D So, I propose one of three things to bridge this issue!

First, you could all let me know how much dollars you have saved from the start, and i can record this and keep track from here-on in.

Second, I can allocate 50 starter gold to all of you, having you all on an even level wealth-wise, and I can keep track of it from there.

Finally, we can pool gold and loot, and rather than each of you individually tracking how much you all have, you can have a single well to draw out of, so to speak which I can keep track of. This way, you will start with 200g in your 'starter pool' and people can share all of the loot. Whenever a new character joins in the game, an additional 50 'starter gold' will be added to the pool.

talk it out and let me know what you would all like; i'm happy for any of them to happen!

The pooling option makes sense.

Atacuso had a fair bit after character creation, I think 30+ gp.

Also, I realize now I forgot to buy a clothing set for Atacuso on the start. I can retcon him being naked for the whole adventure those far, or go back and give him an adventurer's outfit.

Here is a rough map to give you all an indication of what's happening. I drew it on a grid map that came with the starter kit for Pathfinder.
Even though it's a grid map, pay no attention to the grid - it's not really to scale, and I have no intention of using the grid as a measurement. In fact, the area's a bit larger than I drew it up as.

Atacuso made a move to flank the corpse so i put him over to the side a bit. The rest of you remain back further.
At = Atacuso
Ar = Aredhel
K = Korchel
H = Helgkhor
S = OHs**tSKELETONS!

Wreckages of vessels lie to either side of you. In the middle lies the corpse against a rocky protrusion (about 3 feet tall)

I probably won't be using that grid again for a while; until I buy some metho to wipe it all clean ('cos I used a permanent marker  :mrgreen:)

Well, PF skeletons...
CR 1/3 as per listing, i.e. 3 are one easy encounter for a lvl 1 party of four, 6 are considered a tougher fight and 6 + 1 boss skelly is a tough boss fight :) really, CR 3 can thoroughly trounce a lvl 1 party :) let's face it, a skelly can down Aredhel with 1 good attack, and Helghkor goes down with a few hits; your armor is not awesome by any stretch of the word, so you will get hit repeatedly.

Its an attack roll - not a good one, but until you are hurt there is nothing else for him to do.   Racoon is staying close to Metandris for the moment.
