So we now have:

Ombutsu the street samurai
Brian the Gang Hacker
Blue the TK Neo-Ethnic

Still waiting on Muldoon the Tracker Bot

But I think we have enough to start

Okay. I'll throw those things into the description. And by the by, Scrasamax, if we're going to have one of those cursed neo-ethnics ( ) in the party, as well as scumbag augmen (looks like the only other decent person I have to work with is axelerowe's seibertonian!), what I want to know is if their is any racist name for them. So that I can make comments about those _____, always screwing up the most basic of tasks, and so on.

Well, Blue's appearance readily lends itself to being called a goat, cow, or anything else with horns or hooves.

Well, naturally I'm going to comment on your foul animalistic additions. But I was thinking of some more generic comments. And I'll need something for Dozus's augmen, too.

Augmens and Neo-Ethnics are genetically modified organisms, GMOs so you can derive something from that Jimmos (GMOs) Genie, gene-junkie, mutant, bioslag, infectious human waste, etc.

On a religious level there is the typical calling them soulless monsters, devils, demons, etc (this could apply to just about anything not 100% pure unmodified human). augments could be desecrators, or defilers (body is a temple, made in the image of god etc)

Seibertronians and other cyborg mods, the first things that come to mind are 'Clankers' (shouted with an australian accent, blame the Clone Wars) Toasters, clippy, or any other insult derived from their mechanical nature.

I think 'defiler' is too serious :)
What about...
Whizz boy, tin man, frankie (from Frankenstein), scrapper, (walking) junkyard, wire head, lug nut, sparky...

Those work, and the sort of people shooting off serious stuff like defiler are the Westboro type religious weirdos

Oh, I do like the sound of mutant. And it all ready has a negative connotation to it in our time, so Brian is definitely going to use that. The others are pretty good ideas, though, too. I can imagine it now: "Them d**n mutants, with their heads so full of sparks that they can't see sense." Or maybe something like that. And to be clear, Biran is racist against augmens, not seibertronians, since seibertronians never started out as human.

Appearance:  Muldoon is the size of a large dog, weighing 120 lbs. and commonly moving on all six legs like animal.  From end to end he’s just over 4ft long and most of his body, save his face and legs, is covered in an artificial coat of feathers that are several shades of brown with flecks of white in them. His head, roughly the size of a human head, was designed to look animal like and user friendly.  He has large round forward set yellow eyes that are placed in a face made of small brown ferro-ceramic tiles. Underneath the tiles is a servo mechanism that allows the tiles to shift slight when Muldoon is making eye contact or communicating in person.  The face tapers into beak like muzzle that is mostly for show, but he can use it grasp items.  The voice actuators are also located in his head so it sounds like he is speaking from his mouth.

Muldoon’s legs are long spindelly carbon fiber structures that have three joints and end in small but very articulate maninpulators.  The primary design role for the appendages is for rapid ground movement and secure climbing.  The front two appendages are capable of producing slightly more force than the rear four appendages, as they were deisgned to help with the cleaning, skinning and preparing of animals. Although he can not lift more than 40lbs.   Muldoon’s wings located on his back are often folded behind him giving him somewhat of tail.  The wings don’t allow Muldoon flight but allow him to slow his descent when jumping or failing and allow him to climb and jump with more force.  Muldoons chasis is only mildly flexible as it was designed with three load bearing points: one beneath the head, one in the mid thorax, and one in the anteirior thorax.  Muldoon was also designed to be move his appendages from one load bearing point to the other and use all six appendages at one point. Thus can stand his hind legs effectively.

Equipment: Muldoon is equipped with thermo grapic vision, telescopic vision, an internal odometer, an internal compass, GPS compatible software and hardware, active scanning and cartography software (doesn’t work) and a sophisticated (state of the art 10 years ago) particle tracker or nose if you what be mammal centric.  He has a build in rifle that fires from a port just to the left of his head.  It fires a low caliber high velocity round and has a four round clip.   Muldoons forward appendages also have retractable carbon blades.

Values: Muldoon is a hunter first foremost.  He is also a “a pack animal” if you will.  His primary joy, his whole being, was be second to his pack’s alpha male.  His pack was his former employer/owner. Muldoon doesn’t consider stuff such as the intrinsic value of life or art, he understands that ecology and life as a whole has to be kept in balance, and thus is not a blood sport hunter.  He sees hunting as challenge and a social activity.  Indeed the only social activities Muldoon has interest in participating in are those relate to the hunt.  He has hunted during his career in numerous environments, although he is currently adapted for artic forest and tundra.

Issues: Muldoon has degenerative neurological illness that his effecting the way he processes visual information. It is not well understood, and only few cases have ever been described.  Muldoon has been studying up on it (learning is one of his prerogatives, it is required for being successful hunting guide).   Additionally Muldoon has some developing personality issues.  He was recently rejected (let go) by his former pack.  He is still reeling from this event and has not yet internalized it yet.  He doesn’t really believe it is over between him and his former master. Muldoon was not an emotional being before this, and this new emotions regarding rejection and trust are difficult for him to process. Muldoon also lived a sheltered life.  He knew his pack and their wealth and that was all.  He was unaware of most of the world and is just now beginning to see himself as part of or exluded from the world’s larger community.

Goals:  Muldoon still forsees himself being reunited with his former employer. He believes that he needs to make several modifications to his hardware and “get his brain fixed”.  He is hoping to acquire enough money to purchase improvements.

An interesting character to say the least.

Muldoon is going to start the game already in Alaska, freelancing in Anchorage. His contact is going to be the guide/liaison that Johnson has arranged to accompany the team into the Industrial Arco.

You guys are doing great, I am loving this.

I would like to address Brian Bolles character and his racism against augments. I think it is fitting to the setting material, but I want to make sure that everyone is okay with it, and that it is understood to be in character, and not any sort of personal attack etc. We are mature, but I want to make sure that all the bases are covered.

Second, Morte will be joining the group soon (he is going to drop in in-transit). I did have the group closed, but he PMed me such an awesome character concept that there was no way I could say no.

Carry on, and if anyone has any questions or needs anything, PM me!

So - have we agreed on who's doing what? Everyone's just talking ambiguously.

Did I get it right?
Muldoon: scout
Blue: scout
Balls: shop, steal boat
Matt: shop, steal boat
If so, let's get to the action.

As to answer your question, I don't have an issue with the topic per se. I just have an issue with "suspension of disbelief".
Only a very stupid person will openly be a -See You AunTie- to armed people on whom his life may depend. Also, I like to base my in-game decisions on actual role-play, and not on 'gloss over it, it's a PC'.
So, I'm A-OK with the portrayal of racism, violence, sex, religious intolerance, politics, bad humor, genocide and other controversial topics within a game, but Mr. Balls may need slightly more thoughtful writing.

I'm thick-skinned enough - and not a human augment myself - to not mind Brian's jabs. I do echo Echo's (ha!) thought that they are a little heavy-handed. But such people exist, so if that's the he's played, I'm game.

Yeah, Brian is probably going to be worrying about how cold it is more than about trading insults with others, so he is going to be slightly more thoughtful (one of the things he's learned is not to insult the meatshields!).

And by the by, echo- did autocorrect make you write Balls instead of Bolles there, did you think that was my guys last name, or did you go for the purposeful insult?

And Morte- I'm liking Luke so far. But what I want to know is if he's human. Because Brian (not I) would like the "good types" to outnumber the augmens and neo-ethnics.

Of course the 'slip' is intentional :D The character's name was too inviting, even its pronunciation. Enjoy your new name, Brian.

Just to make sure we're clear on our prejudices: João isn't a genetic augment, he just has artificial limbs and mechanical enhancements. Not sure how that affects Balls' Bolles ' friendly little nicknames in that regard.

You just had to do the Balls comment, didn't you? And I'm using mutant as a general term for genetic and mechanical augmens and neo-ethnics, and other descriptive terms on a case by case basis.

That might be a hint to dial Bolles' augmen racism down a notch.

The Bolles/Balls joke probably needs to stay in the IC thread also.
