Most of the guys here will hardly shake hands with their male friends and it bugs me.

Well, I am not sure what age group of men you associate with, but I can say that the younger men are, the more he needs to be cool. This desire to be cool conforms them to act a certain way and will not permit them to deviate from the accepted social standards.

As for me, though, I don't care too much what people think of me. Cause I am what I am and that's all that I am ( a couple cards short of a full deck).

except for one flaw! High Schoolers and Middle Schoolers need to be cool the most. As a kid in elamentary, you get along with everyone, and no one cares about anything like looks or intelligence!

Ooohh really? Did you ever race to see who is the fastest; climb bars the fastest; who would chicken out on a dare? Maybe you would see who could spit the farthest, or permit a girl to throw a piece of metal at your head to prove you're not scared (I have and still retain the scar on my right eyebrow).

I remember fist fighting with "friends" in class just because they needed to belittle me in front of others (acts of coolness are so cold and callous). We also put-down and beat-up people that didn't act within the confines of our rules of interaction and imagination. I would have suffered more than I did for being white, but my older brother was respectfully psychotic, thus many knew me as Little JJ which helped keep some transgressors at bay. All of this was in elementary school.

In-fact, childeren in daycare learn bad habits of not sharing the cool toy; taunting the younger and/or weaker child to prove who is in charge; even influencing other kids to leave the unlikable child out of games entirely.

Coolness changes with age and maturity, but the core of it is driven by our sinful nature.

Well In the places Ive grown up (Or place I should say) In elementary school, everyone was everyones friend. No one really belittled anyone, you did what you did and that was that. There maybe was a little showing off when girls were present, but other than that, people just didn't care what you did or who you were! Then Middle School came around, and the Idea of Popularity leaked into our heads, and since then its been competition!

No. I am not a Catholic, Baptist, nor Lutheran. There are too many contrived rules and regulations. It's just a fact, we all have tendencies to do bad things and feel the need to exact revenge when insulted or harmed in some way.

It does not matter who we are: American, Nigerian, Chinese. Nor our chosen religious practice: Christian, Muslim, Jew, Wiccan, atheist (this is the worship of one's self as the all encompassing power). We all have moments and/or desires to inflict emotional, and physical harm.

These moments and desires don't even have to be a conscious effort towards an innocent victim. Gambling is directly linked to suicide, bankruptcy, and divorce; drug addiction helped mold the mindset of Charles Manson and his family; a parent's lust for pornography and prostitution has created hatred and rage in childeren/serial killers such as Ted Bundy and Jeffery Damer.

Hey, sniperspy. Did you come from an area where parents, on average, are more involved. I know this helps alot when raising childeren. Where I grew-up, parents either worked too many long and hard hours at the car factories, or were poor welfare recipients that were caught in the endless cycle of crime and drugs.

I know my only escape was to do a multitude of drugs, slam dancing and writing. I can happily say all, save writing, are behind me. "Just say no" as Nancy Reagan stated, is not so easy. Don't get me wrong, I loved slam dancing. It's just after a broken nose and concussion from head-butting people, it was time to hang-it-up.

I think there are only 10 Couples still together in this city. So parents arn't invloved too much. Drugs are pretty big, but I dont do em, and alcohol is huge, but Im safe ther too! (Im allergic to the stuff). However, there are a few others like me, and we hang out a lot. Despite all this, violence is a lot lower than you might expect.

In my town parents are hardly involved. I mean there are a few couples who are together and tons who aren't. I live in a medium sized city, tho. The childrens whos parents are still together are envied. And the one's whoes arent usually turn to drugs and alcohol. We are a major city for drugs, pregnancies and murder. It once was really bad. One kid got really mad at another because he stole the other's bike. We had a huge fight in the caffeteria and police came in. The police have been to our school too many times.
On the side of drugs, there was a kid a few years before me who brought LSD to school and tripped out in the bathroom. Last year we had to have bathroom monitors because people were smoking in the bathroom during lunch. Marajuana(sp?) is big, as is oxycotin. We have had meth labs not a mile away from our schools (We have seven elementaries) and The violence is bad. People get jumped everyday and there was a kid who was stabbed last year.
I could go on and on but I think you get my point.

i think divorce should be outlawed. We should at least try it for a while. If you marry someone, thats a huge commitment, and we don't want to teach our children they can back out of big commitments so easily!

Well Captain, I am definitely not a psychologist; not nearly enough credit hours.

A moralist? If that means telling people what they should and act, then no. Every one should be permitted to live freely in this society. This includes art, music, lifestyle, eating habits, etc. Besides, when ever any "holier-than-thou-people" get on their soap box and tell everyone not to do something, it just encourages many to go right ahead.

Well, Almatari, even though I have only been married about five years, I must say that marriage is a lot of work. There is no fairy tale ending, nor eternal happiness; just work and security. When reality shatters this illusion, divorce usually proceeds.

There is no one perfect person that will never do wrong. So, we must be able to accept your spouses for who they are; find common ground during arguments; having a continuously developing plan, for the future, is also very important. I must say, though, that the most important thing to do is to communicate your love for one-another, at least once per day. It is very important to be married to your friend, lover and confidant.

Wow, five years is a long time. My parents only made it to twelve. So I wish you love for a lot longer than that.

I am sure that they loved each other very much. My father remarried but my mother never has. She doesn't date even. I believe that they fell in love and are still in love with the Idea of each other. Not who they are. My mom blames it on the fact that he was a dreamer. I take after him. She is more into the reality and science of life. My father and I dream to be better than what we can be.
