Aye, I felt much the same, the show hooked me form the get go, has replaced Fire Fly as my all time favorite tv show ever.

For shame for shame.... Fire Fly should always be rated number one... and I will gladly stand aside for anyone who has more experience at pbp than I do. I can be a mediator of knowledge if need be.

First Group

Maester Lomas of House Tarth, who has recently left the Sapphire Island when venerable Lord Evenstar finally passed, his only heir, the missing androgynous warrior, Brienne. Lomas is that rarity, a wandering Maester, without a House.

Korley "Lannister" Hill, a bastard of Casterly Rock, though not a despised or ignored one. Son of Kevan Lannister, half-cousin to the Kingslayer, half-nephew to Tywin Lannister. Rides a cremello courser, named "Bastard".  (coat of arms: the Lannister Lion, yes he dares.)

Velaquo Silkblood, a somewhat flamboyant mercenary captain from Myr, across the Narrow Sea. Currently sans his once feared, three thousand-strong, Bloody Silks Company

Ser Rygobert, "Rygby" Ryswell, a minor knight of the Rills, one of the many quarrelsome Ryswell cousins, who all look alike. Rigby's sword skills however, raise him high above his kin. (coat of arms: Bronze, a horse head, sable eyed and maned gules within a bordure angrailed sable)

Drin Tostro, raised and branded by the Bearded Priests of Norvos, trained in the long-axe, and sent to serve, obey, and protect...

Rheyna, called "Fingerdance", a young girl from Barrowtown, a thief and an uncanny knife-thrower, she is now travelling with Ser Rygby Ryswell. It was either that, or lose a hand. Long story.

Triumph of the Dungeon Master!

Ah, how I have come to love that sense of accomplishment and victory that I get when I pull the wool over the eyes of a clever player character. What DM Triumphs have you had?

Some of mine:
1. Finally killing an incredibly powerful, lucky, annoying player's character.
2. Finally achieving a TPK (Total Party Kill)
3. Finally achieving a TPK using only traps
4. Finally working out how to make it so that d**n wizard doesn't steal the spotlight all the d**n time.

Is that a list of already claimed chars, Mourn?  If not, than I'd like to play Drin.  Otherwise, I await your PM I suppose.  The Starks and the Night Watch are the two groups most familiar to me, but I'm interested in hearing your ideas.

I'm Muro, Mourn is the one with the nose-ring :)

Hmm, i was pegging you for Ser Ryg Ryswell, but if Drin Tostro floats your boat, that works for me! Maybe Mourn can play the quarrelsome Ryswell, if he's ok with it.

(suggested reading for Drin Tostro on a "Wiki of Ice and Fire" : Bearded Priests of Norvos  http://awoiaf.westeros.org/index.php/Bearded_Priests_of_Norvos and Areo Hotah http://awoiaf.westeros.org/index.php/Areo_Hotah)

Will be sending out paragraphs of character info tonite via PMs to all.

Having trouble getting into the first book. It seems to drag. Do I continue? I must say my interest level has dropped significantly.

I still want to take part in the roleplay. I just hope my lack of world knowledge won't impede too much.

The WoT series? Never heard of it.

I'll try to continue reading, maybe I just wasn't in the mood earlier. Which is strange, I usually like sitting in the garden when it's warm and sunny, reading.

PC Roster v 2.0 (one at a time)

Maester Belomas (valadaar)

Erstwhile Maester of Tarth, the Sapphire Isle, until recently in service to venerable Lord Selwyn "The Evenstar" of Tarth, who has just passed away peacefully from old age. With no heirs, except his daughter Brienne, who is currently missing somewhere in Westeros, the High Seat of Tarth is currently embroiled in succession battles and politics. Maester Belomas had been unceremoniously banished and sent away, by an upstart Baron of the island, who has decided to claim Tarth for his own, and who has his own Maester in tow.

Now, without a home, a House, or a liege to serve, Maester Belomas has sailed back across the channel to the mainland of Westeros. His ambitions and plans are known only to himself, though he has considered 1. Finding Brienne Tarth (to somehow help rightfully restore her to Tarth's High Seat) and 2. Visiting the Citadel in Oldtown once again, where many years ago, Belomas had forged his Maester's chain, and 3. Finding a new place to call home, perhaps a court in need of a Maester.

Of average height and weight, Belomas is relatively young for a Maester, having recently turned fifty. His balding brow and wispy brown beard, make him look older than he is. He is physically fit for a Maester, and dresses simply in a Maester's robe, wears a linked Maester's Chain on his neck, and leans on a stout oaken staff.

Odrin Tostro of Norvos (Dossta)

An orphan of Norvos' streets, Odrin was taken in and raised from a very young age by the Bearded Priests, a somewhat mysterious order of militant monks, who train men in the use of the long-axe. By sixteen, these children take vows that “wed” them to their axes, their "wives" of ash-and-iron, and are branded with an axe-mark across their chest.

Those who pass the training, are then sent by the Bearded Priests to various kingdoms of Westeros, the Free Cities, and beyond, to serve as guardians and protectors, to anyone who has met the Bearded Priests' "price". They are sent with only three words in mind, "Serve, Obey, Protect".

Odrin was sent to Westeros, but his "mission" is known only to him.

Odrin is a rather large man, standing well over six feet, and weighing close to two hundred and fifty pounds, with wide shoulders, and a barrel chest. Barely five-and-twenty, he is clean-shaven, with a head of brown curls.

Odrin wears boiled leather beneath his burnished ring-mail, and carries no shield, nor any weapon besides his dirk, and fearsome long-axe.

Korley "Lannister" Hill (Scrasamax)

The Bastard of Casterly Rock.

Son of Kevan Lannister, who is the dour brother of none other than Tywin, Korley is half-cousin to the Kingslayer and Cersei, and grew up in Casterly Rock, honing his weapon skills, drinking and womanizing. Unlike most notable bastards of the realm, Korley was not denounced, nor despised, nor ignored by his father, but merely kept at "arms length" from the rest of the legitimate noble brood.

A rebel with a cause, Korley's considerable talents with sword, horse, and lance, have kept him in the Lannister's good graces, and he has in fact been used as a "weapon" by his sire and Tywin over the last few years. Sometimes compared to his half-cousin Jaime by those who know such things, Korley is indeed deadly with both blade and tongue.

As the war of Five Kings raged, Korley was still at Casterly Rock, and not at King's Landing where the action was happening, and where the forces of Stannis Baratheon have recently been repelled by Tywin on the Blackwater.

Until a raven arrived with a message, not from his father, but from Tywin himself.

"Come to King's Landing. Have need of your particular talents. Make haste."
Lord Tywin Lannister, Hand of the King

Korley is two-and-twenty years of age, with the iconic, flowing, blonde locks of his famous kin, but plain, brown eyes, a testament to his bar-wench of a mother. He rides a cremello courser named Bastard, and is well known in the Westerlands for winning multiple tourneys over the years, as well as for his wenching ways. He is not well known in the East or the North as of yet, but that may soon change, if he has his way.

Rheyna (Kassy) and Kat (Silveressa)

Called "Fingerdance", Rheyna grew up amidst the mud-slapped streets of Barrowtown in the Rills. She never knew her parents, and has survived by her wits (and with her knives--she is an uncanny knife-thrower, untrained, but posessed of some natural gift for handling and manipulating sharp objects--) for as long as she's had memory to remember. She makes her living as a common thief, and is quite audacious for her age.

A loner by nature, Rheyna's only friend is her lover and friend, "Kat" also a thief, and strangely an accomplished archer, from her "past life", of which she never speaks.

Recently, Rheyna had been caught red-handed by the city-guard for theft (a first time for everything), and sentenced to have her right hand chopped off for her crimes.

It was then, both their lives life took a turn in a new direction.

As Kat planned on how to spring her friend and lover from the local Gaol, before the "chop", she was approached by a huge axe-wielding stranger from parts unknown. The stranger, who called himself Odrin Tostro, offered to pay coin for Rheyna's freedom, and with Kat's help, accomplished just that, after some awkward negotiations with the city guard, and after the huge warrior assured Kat that he wasn't looking for a sex slave.

Now, the two young thieves have decided to accompany this new msyterious warrior on his own travels, away from grimy Barrowtown, to see where fate and destiny takes them.

Rheyna is seventeen years of age, with coal-dark hair (dyed from her natural white-blonde, as she always thouht her silver locks shone too much in the moonlight and attracted attention--not good for a thief) and emerald-green eyes. She is lithe, and slight, and constantly underestimated. She wears simple leathers, and carries at least a half-dozen hidden knives on her person at all times.

Kat is nineteen years of age, somewhat taller and more filled out than Fingerdance, with chestnut brown hair and "dancing" hazel eyes. She wields several knives and blades of her own, and also carries a curved short-bow, in the style of Greywater's crannogmen, along with several different types of arrows. Perhaps a hint to her past, perhaps not.

Velaquo Silkblood (Echo)

A somewhat flamboyant mercenary captain from Myr, from across the Narrow Sea. Currently sans his once feared, three thousand-strong, Bloody Silks Company, a mercenary band quite known and once feared in the Free Cities and the Disputed Lands.

Recently, after a devastating defeat upon the Stepping Stones, during which his Bloody Silks were annihilated by an over-sized force--the combined forces of a surprising Pentos and Lys alliance--Velaquo has fled to Westeros, a realm he has always wanted to visit, having heard fanciful tales of their lands and royalty.

Arriving by boat near King's Landing, only a week removed from the Massacre upon the Blakwater, where the forces of Tywin Lannister, his dwarf-son Tyrion, and their new allies the Tyrells, fought back the Usurper Stannis Baratheon and his forces, Velaquo has found a city rife with intrigue and danger, and a bit of chaos. Perhaps he will leave his mark, before all is said and done.

Velaquo stands an inch over six feet, slightly stooped and thin, yet much stronger than he looks, with the instincts and agility of a panther. Dark-haired and dark-eyed, with a midnight-black goatee, and two golden teeth inside a wide, lecherous smile. He can--and has--used nearly every weapon known to man in battle at one time or another, yet has his favorites.

He is dressed in leathers, dyed dark-green, and a fine cape of wine-purple Myrish silk.

Ok, thats it for now! I'm kicking Rygby Ryswell to the curb. No one will play him.

Mourn, you will have a "special" character, which you and I will discuss in chat hopefully soon, and you will make your entrance slightly after the others have started.

Please consider this thread the new OOC.

I will start a new thread specifically for the game, where I will begin with a VERY brief intro to current events. Basically, our time frame begins precisely after the battle of the Blackwater, and last night's final episode of season 2 :)

If you have any last questions, concerns, ideas, thoughts, please PM them asap. We begin this evening.

Muro -- for those of us who know only a little of the setting, is there anything we should read to catch up?  Something like a campaign guide or a timeline?  Namely, what should my character have as "common knowledge?"

Well, I will post an intro as far as the time-frame of events, whats what, and who's where, and all that, which will hopefully give your character "common knowledge". Barring that, just perusing a 'Wiki of Ice and Fire' is always fun :)  If you want specific stuff to read, I suppose i can make further suggestions (like Battle of the Blackwater, etc, etc, etc). Let me know.

For those of us who know only a little of the setting, is there anything we should read to catch up?  Something like a campaign guide or a timeline?  Namely, what should my character have as "common knowledge?"

The GOT wiki is also a great resource, and helps with putting faces to the names of memorable NPC's ;) http://gameofthrones.wikia.com/wiki/Game_of_Thrones_Wiki

Yes, good point, Sil. (Since you'll be interacting with people from the books in "real-time")
