http://www.doctornerdlove.com/2011/11/nerds-and-male-privilege/all/1/One of my Facebook friends posted this article on her news feed. It is an interesting read, and I went on to read some of the tagged articles, and a ways into the comment thread. It brings up some valid points, identifies some not so obvious straw men arguments for and against the way female characters are treated, and how women are largely treated in the comic/gaming community.
After reading some of this, it reminds me why I am not that bothered by a lack of a local gaming community, and why when I do walk into the closest approximation of the FLGS, I am filled with an Ogre-esque desire to bellow 'NEEEEERRRRRRDDDSSSSS' or when we walk past it, I look to my wife and say 'I smell social ostracism, with a hint of failure'
I digress.
I think there is a possible writing challenge here, create viable, realistic super heroines or costumed crime fighters (or villians for that matter) that are still female, but are not the typical nubile bikini clad amazon ninjas.
