Telegraph article: Russia and Ukraine squabble over fairytale characters

Quote
The disputed characters include a medieval knight called Ilya Muromets known for his superhuman strength, 'Speckled Hen,' a creature which miraculously lays golden eggs, and Kolobok, a cheerful talking cake who flees animals eager to eat him.

Clear this up for us, Muro. Are you Ukranian or Russian?
The old man, grey-haired, braid hanging down.
He is clothed in faded brown robes.
His craggy face is turned up, bathed in moonlight;
He looks for his goddess to smile upon him.

More importantly, tell us more about the terrifying talking Russian cake.  :shock:
Crux sacra sit mihi lux!  Numquam draco sit mihi dux!

"Why is it," he asked vaguely, "that I think you are quite a decent fellow?  Why do I positively like you...?"  He paused a moment, then added with a sort of fresh curiosity, "Is it because you are such an ass?"

Well, suddenly it's all so clear to me. I always thought Murometz was an odd name, assumed it has something to do with the baseball team, never thought to ask as there are so many weird usernames out there. But now... judging from the information I possess, this HAS to be the origin of Muro's name.

And for some reason I want to say he is Ukranian, and not Russian (but possibly both?).

I'll go with Jedi-Master AG's answer. I like it.

Kolobok is not all that terrifying. He's a cake :) He outwitted a few animals who were trying to eat him, until the fox came along, and befuddled him with praise. End of Kolobok. Fox full. I like the german version of the fairy tale better. Kolobok ends up letting some starving children eat him. Awwww (yet...creepy?)

Anyway, yes I'm not Ukranian.

Anytime food talks back when you try to eat it, it's terrifying and creepy.
