Hi all
« on: April 22, 2011, 04:16:28 PM »
Hi all, I just surfed onto this site while looking online for the author (Brennan "The Dark Paladin" Brooks) of an old AD&D netbook called "Tome of the d**ned," which I discovered exists on this site. (I discovered the file I downloaded on an old Forgotten Realms Yahoo! group.)

Anyway, I decided to register and will be lurking around.

How long you have been gaming and if you DM?
I started gaming with the original AD&D 2E core books. I started off a huge Dragonlance and Forgotten Realms fan and soon became a fan of Dark Sun, Greyhawk, Planescape, and Spelljammer. I've DMed both 2E and 3E, mainly in my own campaign worlds...

Walk the Road

While I haven't DMed in a while, I do continue to create new material for my homebrewed worlds, mainly World of Kulan. I'd like to get back into gaming soon. However, Real LifeTM issues have prevented me from making a serious effort.

You can normally find me on two other gaming web sites, EN World and The Piazza. I've been a mainstay on EN World since it was Eric Noah's 3rd Edition News and Reviews although I'm not as addicted to it as I once was. The Piazza is a newer forum that recently went through some malware issues (it's fine now). I also have several RPG-based yahoo! groups that I own/moderate or that I am a member of.

What kind of RP games have you played...any favorites?
D&D is my favorite game. I prefer 3E to all the other editions, but I do have a fondness for 2E since it is where I started. Regardless, I own all the core rulebooks for 1E, 2E, and 3E as well as the Essentials line of products for 4E.

Other RPGs I am interested in: Alternity, d20 Modern, Earthdawn, Gamma World, Mutants & Masterminds, Pathfinder RPG, Shadowrun, and Traveller.

Cheers!

Ah... fresh meat... er I mean. Welcome. Drop off the cinnamon rolls on Muro's desk as you pass by the main office as Strolen is probably locked away in a cabinet somewhere breaking more code.

Thanks all. I'll definitely be sticking around although I might just lurk for now. I definitely want to read some stuff here and get some different perspectives on my homebrewed material.

Welcome!
Most of the stuff we post is compatible with classic western fantasy, so you'll have no shortage of material.
Once you feel at home, share with us your homebrews ;)

Triumph of the Dungeon Master!

Ah, how I have come to love that sense of accomplishment and victory that I get when I pull the wool over the eyes of a clever player character. What DM Triumphs have you had?

Some of mine:
1. Finally killing an incredibly powerful, lucky, annoying player's character.
2. Finally achieving a TPK (Total Party Kill)
3. Finally achieving a TPK using only traps
4. Finally working out how to make it so that d**n wizard doesn't steal the spotlight all the d**n time.

I don't really consider myself a true old schooler. I believe old-school DnDers are those that began with OD&D and BECMI. I guess ADnDers that started with 1st Edition AD&D would fall into that category, for me, as well.

I guess the main reason is that when 3E came out, I immediately converted my homebrews. I didn't even blink. I will be a 3E grognard for many years to come.

I would be hard pressed to DM a 2E game ever again although I could see myself playing in a 2E (or 1E) game. I am much more likely to DM a BECMI game. (I just acquired a copy [on layaway] of the D&D Rules Cyclopedia.) I also prefer Castles & Crusades to AD&D. That is a game I would GM.

And, I think, I know the Nightfall you are referring to.
