I was given the honor of setting the theme of the next Quest!
So, I thought up four.
You, gentlemen and gentlerdamsels, may choose which we shall pursue.

Umm, shouldn't that be 20,000 feet under the sea? 20k miles is a teensy bit much, unless you mean the solar seas.

20.000 Miles under the Sea refers to Jules Verne http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Twenty_Thousand_Leagues_Under_The_Sea

Because it referred to the distance travelled, not the depth.

"Google before asking" came out a little harsh. I was trying to figure out how to get that deep too for a few seconds. In this forum I will take anything that spurs a little conversation. How big would a world need to be to allow for that kind of depth. That is crazy!

Indeed, although for a sun that kind of depth would be quite possible. In the rpg Eclipse Phase, there's actually some bio engineered lifeforms living within the sun!

Solar whales and such, pretty neat concepts tbh.

Technically, a nautical league is three nautical miles, so 20,000 leagues would be 60,000 miles, not twenty thousand miles. http://wiki.answers.com/Q/How_far_is_20000_leagues

Why exactly are you posting such a comment when what you should be thinking is which quest to choose?

Much like Strolen, the depth in miles threw me for a few seconds, and I figured it would others too, thus my comment was intended as constructive in it was a suggestion to make the wording less confusing to people who read it in the quest title. (I also tried for a bit of humor in the mentioning, which apparently failed epically.

(On a side note those are some great quest ideas, and have a broad appeal to fans of every genre, nice job on coming up with them!

I have to admit to being really interested in all of these Quest subjects. Reading all of them there together provokes some strange ideas...

Behold, The Underwater Automaton of the Long Lost Sea-King, a Great nautical Treasure that predates the Aquatic Apocalypse, when the Great Ocean was lost to the Forces of Hell and became awash with Blood!

Yeah, me'thinks this will be a fun bit of Questing.

You know how every once in a while something someone says just bugs you and you can't figure out why? This was one of those, and it took me a while to figure out what it was, but I finally dawned on me, if a league is 3 NM, it's not in fact equal to 3 statute miles. 1 NM = ~15/13 miles, or even less accurately, 7/6. Though all of this is moot because the league is one of those measurements that were not only inconsistent between nations, but inside countries as well. The English alternated between using NM's and SM's, the Portuguese had 3 different leagues, the French had a plethora of them, from about 2 miles to a little more than 3. Anyway, 20,000 leagues could be anywhere from around 40,000 to a little less than 70,000 miles.

Also, as for the name of the quest option, it was a reference, not an exact translation of the title. Plus, I can always default on the excuse that Slovaks are a) metric, hence don't care about miles b) the Slovak translation of Jules Verne's work uses the term 'miles' because really 99% of people here don't know what a league might be (A sports tournament?)

So true, and such variation in measurements can also be a continual minor nuisance to any character in a fantasy campaign. (Especially when they fail their navigation/cartography roll) "The map says the ruins are located 30 leagues from town? We've gone almost fity and not a shred of decayed stonework!" *Momentary pause while group consults map* "Egads man! This man is a Northern Hinterlands original frfom the 12th dynasty! They measure leagues in almost twice the distance we do these days, no wonder we haven't found anything yet!" (Of course without their scholar/historian in tow they'd also have never realized the 12th dynasty's compasses were often poorly constructed, and what their maps considered "north" is usually more "north west" by modern guidance devices.)

Great, now I'm seeing Merfolk engaged in a Quiditch-like game under water, surrounded by thousands of fishy fans. Now I wish you *had* called the quest 20,000 leagues so that I would have an excuse to create a "30 Underwater Sports" sub.

Even though I've already submitted I support an extension (Yeah, yeah, I know; it would probably kill any remaining chance I have of winning.) It seems at least a few Strolenites have ideas they haven't had time to finish up and my curiosity is getting the better of me.

What say the others?
