Punctuation changes everything
« on: January 13, 2011, 08:42:54 AM »
With every sub people struggle for correct grammar and usage make their ideas look as professional as possible. However it is the punctuation that truly hold the power to change a submission all depending on its location.

Both letters below are grammatically correct...

Dear John:

I want a man who knows what love is all about. You are generous, kind, thoughtful. People who are not like you admit to being useless and inferior. You have ruined me for other men. I yearn for you. I have no feelings whatsoever when we're apart. I can be forever happy

--will you let me be yours?

Jane

Yours,

Jane

That is bloody brilliant.  Thanks for the laugh!

Here's a puzzler for the rest of us.  Punctuate the following sentence so that it makes sense:

That that is is that that is not is not is that it it is

Journeyman Strolenati – Strolenati Guild
Tale Spinner - Weavers Guild
Level 3
STR: 4 | END: 4 | CON: 3 | DEX: 6 | CHA: 3 | INT: 5

There are a few other examples of why punctuation matters floating around, I can recall 2 of them:

"Let's eat, Grandma!" VS "Let's eat Grandma!"

and a slightly more disturbing one emphasizing punctuation.

"Go help your Uncle Jack off his horse." VS ... Well... Ew.

EDIT:

How could I forget the most infamous one:

"The panda eats shoots and leaves" VS "The panda eats, shoots, and leaves"

That one seems to emphasize proper punctuation more than proper comma-ization...

I did write that is emphasized punctuation, as you noted it did (but really doesn't), but what I meant to say was capitalization. If you didn't capitalize the proper noun Jack, then you would get something far worse.

I would add that "comma-ization" is included in punctuation.
