Hello everyone, my name's Jason or JP.
I bought D&D redbox at a local nook bookstore in northeast Oklahoma when I was about 17, puzzled over why there was an orange crayon in the box, tried to figure it out, and put it in my closet for a couple of years til I had a friend in school and we, with my mom's help ("Mom, what's a Prerequeest?"), muddled through figuring it out together.
From redbox we moved to AD&D2E which I bought at KayBee Toys in the mall in Tulsa and a friend eventually ran Runequest. I bought Car Wars at a garage sale for $7 (marveled over it, but it was way too fiddly, cool to look at and I got ideas from it, but never played anything but simple run-throughs) and from there, went to some conventions, etc. I've always gamed with friends and family so my groups have been friends and those groups have changed, but I've played:
Chill, Mayfair(own, ran twice, played twice, semi-fave based on premise)
DC Heroes (own, ran 1 fight, nobody was impressed including me)
Marvel Superheroes FASERIP (own, never used, looks ok)
Paranoia Mid 80s (played thrice, owned, MIA, looks novel, though not a fan of p-v-p conflict)
Shadowrun 2E (played twice, owned, MIA, seemed ok)
Pendragon (played once, ok, unable to form very good opinion)
Champions (played twice, enjoyed "feel"/presentation of story but too complicated for play)
Hero 4th (own, never used, see above)
Toon (own, never used)
GURPS 3E (own, never used)
Men In Black (own, never used)
D6 (own, ran 1 mock combat with no tactical options for cover etc, too fast and brutal without them, seems ok)
Star Wars D6 (played twice, liked well enough)
Star Trek FASA (own, ran once, played once, convoluted chargen, a bit heavy in some play but playable)
Star Trek LUG (played, easier and faster than FASA, skills a little confusing, enjoyed 'episode' format)
Batman, DC Heroes rules (own, never used)
Traveler orig. (at the SoonerCon in 93 I think, whenever it was I voted for Perot, my first election)
TABLOID, Amazing Engine (own, never used)
Neuromancer/Masterbook (own, never used)
Call of Cthulhu, 3, 4E (own, played countless, ran dozens, fave)
Warhammer 1, 2E (own, played countless, ran dozens, fave)
Feng Shui, Atlas Games (own, ran thrice, strong fave)
Wushu, Dan Bayn (own $5.00 PDF, ran 6 pbp games, strong fave)
Dark Conspiracy (played once, ok)
Twilight 2000 (played once, ok but not fond)
D&D BECMI/Redbox (owned, ran and played few years, first RPG, bought it myself off the shelf)
Harpoon (played, not a tactics guy but was neat seeing it take up giant homemade table with blue sheet on it)
AD&D2E (owned, ran, played, liked Elf not being a class, thought "non weapon proficiency" was funny)
D&D 3, 3.5 (played about a month, realized I was daring DM to kill my character, and that D20 was not for me)
Runequest boxed AH (played fource, liked it ok, Strike Ranks not so much)
It Came From The Late Late Late Show (own, never used, liked overall premise)
Supersquadron (own, never used, was 5 bucks, rules suck)
Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles (made monkey with Strength of 2, no progress beyond that)
Ghostbusters (played once, didn't understand concept at time, wished now I had, awesome)
Nephilim (played once, interesting but confusing premise, awful scenario, complicated system)
Starfleet Battles (played numerous times, ok but not a tactics guy)
Prime Directive (played once, ok but seemed second-rate, missing something)
Talislanta (owned, for not having elves, there were an awful lot of elves, weird derivative system, MIA)
Basic Roleplaying (own, was ripped off, paper thin "book" for what I paid, preview instead of book, CoC "lite")
Found this place long ago, don't remember how but got directed, this week, by Pieh from P&PG.
I already submitted an article, so, looking forward to seeing how this all goes!
