"Hail fellow, well met!"
« on: September 05, 2010, 08:28:55 AM »
Gah, introductions are always awkward.  They are, however, a required unpleasantry if one wishes to be courteous.  So here goes:

I am Dossta: ring-bearer, computer-whisperer and anti-entropy specialist.  It has been my fortune to be involved in several gaming groups during high school and college, but my sad fate to never see a campaign to its end.  Reality always seemed to creep up on me and I was always forced to quit gaming for some reason or other.  For this reason, I consider myself to be a relatively new player, though I've flirted with RPGs many times over the years.

I have played D&D 3.5 (Forgotten Realms & Eberron settings), and Vampire the Masquerade.

In the interest of seeing a campaign to its end, I am now considering trying my hand at GMing -- canned adventures at first, but I have ideas for my own campaign that I would love to bring to life.  None of my current friends are really tabletop gamers, so I expect that we will all be learning together.  Joining this site was really a first step towards this goal, and I hope to learn a few things about being a GM and to get some creative feedback for my ideas.

Awesome, welcome to the Citadel! I myself understand your predicament. I've never been able to do much tabletop, but life always seems to kill my attempts to do forum games. I've GMed a few sessions with some friends, and I can say it's both terrifying and exhilarating the first time you do it. This is a wonderful place to get ideas for the first time you spread your appendages and attempt to make like a flying llama.

Yikes, a cursed roleplayer, often called "the one who shall never witness the end of a campaign", or just "Oosah, Prince of Veiled Endings" among friends.

Welcome Oosah, errr, Dossta!

Excellent! Welcome.

My first GM was a nightmare. Had an adventure planned for 5 total, all pretty close friends so I wouldn't be so nervous. Two ended up bringing a couple friends and we ended up with 8 - 10. The fear of the night blotted my exact memory but it was way too many for my first foray into GMship. The game was OK but a few were bored as I had trouble making up enough to entertain them all. Nightmare!

You never know what the night will bring, but regardless, you will have fun bringing your ideas to life!

Hey there.
Feel free to hit us up on advice, more publicly through the forum, and even through private messages, if you like a specific sub and need hints how to use it in your game.

I myself have seen a dozen campaigns trail away into the mist, but my pride is one that has not died and is running for like 9 years now, with the occasional session still occurring at irregular intervals.

Llama balls....tasty.

Wait, that sounded horrible.

Anyway, I mistyped...meant to write my first GM experience. That was me that was horrible...although my first GM was really horrible too. :)

"Hmmmmmm, llama balls . . . "  *takes notes*  "Potent weapon.  Powerful yet . . . tasty?"  *blanches*

Thanks all for the welcome.  It's good to know that the people here are open to PMs for advice -- I'll probably be needing some soon, as I plan to start gaming within the next few months.  In the meantime this has been a great way to get feedback on my writing.  I really value constructive criticism from people of intelligence.   8)
