Talislanta RPG is Free
« on: April 08, 2010, 03:57:07 PM »
Stephan Sechi, the creator of Talislanta, announced on the mailing list a few weeks ago that he is going to release the entire catalog of Talislanta as free PDFs (when they are all scanned) at the Tal website.  You can get all of 4th edition, and most of 3rd edition material on PDF.  If you are a completist, you can wait for the 2nd and 1st ed.  This is going to include the Morrigan Press 5th edition stuff (which I was not impressed with) as soon as those revert back to him in 2010.

or more accurately

This is the most prominent RPG property to go free at this point.

Over 20 years and Still No Elves!

Okay, you don't know what Talislanta is do you?
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Talislanta  for the details..  but you never follow the links... so...

In 1987 a small company called Bard Games published The Chronicles of Talislanta, the first of a series of books about the Talislanta role-playing game. The game quickly gained a reputation as an alternative to Dungeons & Dragons that was both much simpler mechanically and far more colorful in tone.  The game has maintained a strong cult following among table-top gamers.  Rick Swan of The Complete Guide to Role-Playing Games fame says. “It’s as if H. P. Lovecraft had written Alice in Wonderland with Hans Christian Anderson and William S. Burroughs”

You want to know more?

Talislanta is not your average role playing game. Unlike most fantasy games, Talislanta isn’t based on traditional European mythology or some archetypal medieval setting. Instead, Talislanta is a strange and exotic place populated by unusual cultures, creatures, and characters such as Wizard-Hunters, Dream Merchants, Thaumaturges, Rogue Magicians, and Mystic Warriors to name just a few.

It has been said by some that to imagine Talislanta, take some of the more wondrous parts of “The Never Ending Story”, “The Dark Crystal”, the works of Jack Vance, and “The Dream-Quest of Unknown Kadath” with a sprinkling of post-apocalyptic fantasy for spice.

If you’re looking for elves and dwarves here, you’re out of luck. However, if you’re looking for a unique and colorful role playing experience, then you’ve come to the right place.

A skeleton walks into a bar and ask the Bartender: “Do you serve skeletons here?”

Times being what they are the wily Bartender replies: “sure, we serve anyone.”

The skeleton hands the man a silver and says: “Fine, I’ll have a pitcher of beer…and a mop”
