Random thought #1. Our group has no glue. We somehow need to forge some kind of bond or something. We have 2 psychos, the incredibly weird Curie, and d_d in his dual role. Love the game, love the characters, but our "togetherness" makes little sense to me, truth be told. Just a thought, I offer no solutions  :P

Glue ideas:
#1: Common goal (See the light and find the faith, or dream up some common desire that your character find irresistible, or join the same organization ("Carnegie" could hire you on as Spacer agents or Kiph could circumcise you and make you join the nomad ranks))
#2: Common plight (Kiph, "Carnegie" AND Curie are hunted by the Gambit, as is Riv (at least when they learn of his jailbreak)
#3: Friendship... Though your craziness makes that hard

Well if the bugger told me that he is a spacer, with actual research labs and tech, I'd be game and work for lodging and food... but we do not know, do we.

Sorry Echo, but he can't tell you. He'd be conditioned to kill himself before revealing who he is truly working for. Curie would definitely see something different going on though. The wireless rig he's wearing would be direct to satellite comms. definitely not something that would be common in these parts except for spacers. the contact lens tech alone would be a definite red flag. Very rare, very exclusive.

Ok, I made the ask. I hope we have enough to keep everyone together.

PvP:

In regards to combat and such, we follow normal rules.

To attempt difficult maneuvers, like Kiph penetrating your mind or Curie turning your equipment against you, they would need to make successful mind probe and hack rolls.

Strictly speaking, Curie might have needed a skill roll to listen in on your little conversation, but in the interest of player survival and party cohesion I let it pass.

Offensive / threatening maneuvers will ALWAYS require a skill roll.

Persuasion is one honest exemption from the "player is a normal world character" rule.

Unless implanted with mind probe suggestions or drug forced or implanted with cerebral devices, a character is always free to follow his own agenda.

So, you cannot "charm" a character and say: "I sex you. We do it doggy style on the sofa"

You could implant the other character with a kama sutra implant and then operate sexual hormone stimulants under her skin, making her a savage sexual beast (but it wouldn't be kind to do so). :)

So, as long as the player is normal "free willed", he has last word.

A good player will take your skill roll and your skill level into account. Muro did just that. But in the interest of player integrity neither NPCs nor PCs can "persuade" or "charm" PCs.

PCs must be psionically, biologically or mechanically forced to do stuff against their will.

Ok, persuasion aside, if we were having a skill to skill contest, such as fencing or martial arts, how would it work?

eg:

Player A: roll fencing 1d100: 34, skill level: 40
Player B: roll fencing 1d100: 39, skill level: 58

How would the hit be decided? is it just on initiative? The social skills are just pass against your skill? How do you resist a persuasion/charm/ESP mind rape attempt?

Player B PARRY (uses fencing skill of 45)

"Shield strap breaks, lose shield also lose next attack"

Since Player A wore no shield, I'd say his belt lost it's buckle and the pants dropped down to his knees. He also lost his next attack, fumbling to get his pants back on.

And so on and so on, until someone did some damage.

And so you say that there are no DODGE/PARRY equivalent for social attacks?

Aha, I understand what you mean now.

Yes, in a social situation you will retort and reply and roll your dice to see the effect of your words. Even between PCs this is a fine way to gauge the effect of your words.

Of course, the quality of your speech will influence the die roll positively or negatively.

Okay. hu. That isn't a pleasant post. Mason is turning out to be a nastier character than I realised. I'm not sure how this is going to go.

Sorry Echo. I like Curie's optimism! Mason not so much. Maybe I should have toned it down?

Might I suggest a do-over?  I think we could work something out, and even D_D did not seem quite happy with how dark things had gotten.

We just need a better in-game reason then money to bring everyone onboard.

I am trying really hard to create a game that is fun for everyone.

Right now I do not think it is fun at all.

The reason for this: A group of hard core gamers that play their role to the bone. They are in fact too excellent in their gaming. We have a freakshow circus on our hands, and by any rationale they are NOT going to work together.

So, I say, lets just be a little bit unrealistic. I've tried to give you motivation. Money, common enemies, common goals (inside the Scientists Tower, both Kips and Masons targets are in there).

I must admit I grew frustrated. Both d_d and Echo played immensely strongly, their characters were hard core, over the top. Awesome NPCs.

But I failed in creating a common goal, an incentive to stick together.

That is why I logically let Cormac throw the PCs out. He had already fought with Helena, she was pestering him about his friends making her apartment a "pigsty". It was logical that he took it mostly out on Mason, he had threatened Helena, his pregnant wife, after all.

I had hoped that lacking a place to live would force the group into playing along with Mason. Obviously I was wrong.

So now I am at a loss for what to do. I invested a lot of time and effort into both Curie and Mason. I was somewhat pissed when Echo talked about leaving the group and then posted that Curie ran to the scientist. It felt like a slap in the face and an abuse of my time and effort.

I really want this game to work. I love it to death. It makes me sad that you guys feel and react the way you do.

Umm, we were/are playing along with Mason. Curie isn't a Mason fan, but that's ok. Lets just play it out.

Does Curie know more about the Scientist than his name? If not, then she hears "scientist" and runs off to do science. Sure beats murdering people for profit.
If on the other hand Curie knows that the Scientist is an ass, then I will edit my post.

As for verissimilitude, if Mason-Garcia-Wesknife-whatever had presented anything besides "ooo look shinies" - even though he might have lied ("a ticket off-world") or played to paint the target black ("He kicks puppies and roasts babies on a stick") then I would be in. Dunno, expcted a player to be more able to 'play' his stooges.

So. Let me know how to salvage this.
