I play Pokemon. There I said it.
That being said, I have an idea to convert PokeMon into a table-top game, ala Battletech, or the newer mini-heavy versions of Dungeons and Dragons.
Basic Ideas:
1. Get rid of the uber-Kiddy stuff. No more fainting. Pokemon can maim, mutilate, and kill one another. Why is this an issue? Healing items and fast toss with a healing ball can save a pokemon moments from death.
2. Terrain Effects
3. Trainers as 'Independant Characters'
Effects what pokemon they can use, their range of control, the number they can control, etc etc etc.
4. Trainer Types also affecting the use of Pokemon.
Examples:
PokeFriend - all pokemon in the Trainer's pack use the best morale roll in their group. If one wins, they all win. If one is crippled or killed, they all retreat as one.
PokeMaster - can substitute his own morale roll over his pokemon, IE they only retreat when his nerve breaks
5. Moves have greater use/depth
some attacks become area attacks, some can hit over obstacles and some cant. Dragon Rush lets the pokemon in question get a free movement action as long as it ends in direct melee attack. Lightning Bolts can arc over cover, etc
There is more, this is a fanciful work in progress
