Legends in the Making [GAME]
« on: December 29, 2008, 01:51:41 PM »
Found this idea over at another forum.

The rules are simple. A suitable legendish name is submitted. The next person in line gets to fill in the fluff and interesting bits on the Legend. Then they present the name for the next Legend, hero or villain.

Points are awarded for originality, and bonus points if your entry is made into a full site sub. Thread entries should be brief, less than 100 words if possible. No novels.

Nalpolard the Unwise
Foolish really, much more so than simply unwise, Nalpolard is (was) an assistant, a plume-pusher to the Harbormaster of a major city. He earned his appellation when he accidentally caused a great conflagration to erupt in the docks, setting flames to half of the city's armada. Nalpolard is currently awaiting trial (and punishment), though is still employed for the time being by the kind-hearted Harbormaster. Other than the accidental arson, Nalpolard is somewhat known about town, as being the former (rejected) apprentice to a well-known and powerful wizard, whose adventures are the stuff of legend. If asked, Nalpolard will relate many tales of the pair's (non-existant) "shared adventures"

Triumph of the Dungeon Master!

Ah, how I have come to love that sense of accomplishment and victory that I get when I pull the wool over the eyes of a clever player character. What DM Triumphs have you had?

Some of mine:
1. Finally killing an incredibly powerful, lucky, annoying player's character.
2. Finally achieving a TPK (Total Party Kill)
3. Finally achieving a TPK using only traps
4. Finally working out how to make it so that d**n wizard doesn't steal the spotlight all the d**n time.

A grizzled old war veteran. He lost one of his feet to the dreaded trench rot and now whenever he has to urinate he empties his bladder onto his remaining foot out of fear of losing it. He will proudly retell, over and over again, his gruesome war stories to anyone who can stand the stench of stale piss. If you ever need to brush up on the brutal history of your country, for pleasure or profit, he is your man.

Sentarious V'Laar, Keeper of the Golden Green
Sentarious is an old man, wizened, stooped, his skin brittle and his patience thin as paper. Balding, liver-spotted and jaundiced, old V'laar has a secret, one that cracks his spittle flecked lips into a smile. He is the keeper of the Golden Green. This is a large green cloak, seemingly as old and decrepid as Sentarious himself. When he wraps it around his shoulders, Sentarious becomes a man a fraction of his age. Retaining all of his knowledge, he becomes a strapping lad of some 20 years, just as he was so many long years ago. The locals know that the green-cloaked stranger that shows up in town is one heck of a hell raiser, and claims to be kin to Sentarious, though no one remembers old V'Larr ever taking a wife or having kids, or siblings...

Hasdrubal of Szlachtan
The black-painted sails of Hasdrubal's ships are unmistakable in the distance to the many coastal towns along No-Hope Bay. A miserable man, whose only skill is slavemongering, Hasdrubal has elevated his status of villainy even among his fellow slavers, known for his particular brand of unspeakable cruelties, the tallow-skinned man is also known for his incredible "luck" in escaping both the law and avoiding unpleasant deaths at the hands of those who hunt him. There have been whispers of black magic.

Governor Virgil Bolswald - Bolswald is the govenor of the Karstlands, a region of boiling springs, fumaroles, and mineral crusted flats that break to reveal dry pits and leg breaking holes. His domain is large, but barren, and frequently is overrun with ogres, trolls, and other large races who like to bathe in the hot chemical pools. Because of this, Bolswald is fluent in nine grotesque languages, and runs the only bath house that caters to the largest and foulest tempered of non-humans. His daughter was taken recently as a 'bride' for a troll chieftan who liked the Preety Flaar Gurl.

High Nabob Spurtooth Lacadamoinon
The High Nabob was the most outrageous swindler to ever grace the capital. Appearing as an old, senile priest, he was holiness itself. It was his companion, a small fat monk, that told incredible stories how this man defeated many demons and all sorts of evil. Gathering alms for the poor, they were popular among the highest nobility and fooled even the Church of Truth and Light for a while. The old man was burned alive, the monk was never heard of again.

The Bright Lady Togava

A living legend at the tender age of five and twenty, Lady Togava was a noble's daughter, raised in comfort and opulence, until that fateful day, when during a spirited Royal Hunt, she was abducted by the steppe-riders of the grasslands. Togava was taken far away, and raised as a child-slave of the steppe tribes, until fate intervened again. The Hetman of the Plains, the leader of the steppe-riders had taken a liking to the sable-haired girl, and adopted her as his own, having lost his own daughter to the plague years earlier. From that day on, Togava was raised as a steppe warrior, an equal among her captors. She possessed beauty, skill, charisma, and a unique "understanding nature" which comes with been raised by two extremely opposite cultures. It came to pass that the Hetman died, but before he did, he announced his successor to be his beloved Togava. Now, Togava leads thirty thousand riders, and each one would lay down his life for his young "Queen", the Bright Lady, who "outshines the Sun."

If there was ever a man who most resembled a thumb that had been hit with a hammer, it would be Ilvin Raynes. His nose is broad and lumpy from being broken many times. One ear is mishapen from having been nearly bitten off and then later poorly reattached. Ilvin has a unique job, he is a beast-wrestler. Possessing almost infernal strength and iron-like constitution, Raynes has survived grappling matches with bears, dire wolves, bull orcs, two headed trollish muntjacks and other monstrosities and beasts. Each fight ends the same way, a battered and bloody Raynes holding the defeated monster in a windpipe crushing headlock as their eyes go glassy. Some people whisper than when the Reaper comes for Raynes, that the Reaper will be the one to loose and Raynes will walk away with his cloak and scythe.

Winfred 'the Lout' Loudermelt
Once a simple mountain-guide who plied his trade along the perilous slopes of the Bantarmot Range, Winfred became famous for all the wrong reasons when a minor dispute between two teams of mountain-climbers he was escorting, erupted into a full-scale pitched melee, over an argument stemming from which group would be the first to scale the unscalable Mt. Foolswhistle. It is said that Winfred, in one of his loutish moods, was the actual instigator of the fight, which left many climbers dead. So loud and spirited was the small-scale battle that an avalanche was triggered and buried the the few survivors, Winfred included. To this day, it is said, Winfred the Lout's ghost still haunts the slopes of Mt. Foolswhistle, and still vexes travelers and climbers with insults and general obnoxiousness.

Olo Flambrand, "the New Master"
An overly righteous man, as deadly with his massive flamberge as he is with his edicts, Olo Flambrand has only recently been elected to the venerable position of "Hochmaster" of the Deurdonic Knights Order. A controversial nominee, as Olo was disliked by a large faction of knights to begin with, he nevertheless has taken to his new post with vigor and fortitude. Among his first actions was to banish Krolebyle the Red Falcon from the ranks, for past slights against the new Hochmaster, and thus a great many knights who revered Krolebyle, are now likewise grumbling under their breaths. Olo's second edict, called for an all-out, unprecedented attack on the infamous castle known as the Heretic's Fortress. Currently, knights march on the impregnable keep, though most disagree with the order. For a third act, Olo has renounced the symbol of the order, which has flown over the  castles of the Deurdons for three hundred years, and has changed it to his own, that of a gray swan with sword in beak. This latest insult (in the eyes of his fellow knights) may well be the final straw. It is doubtful Olo will last long as the Hochmaster.

Sanriselle of Aelior
Lithe, beautiful, the daughter of a favored noble, Sanriselle of Aelior looked forward to a life of luxury and influence. Her father doted upon her and she had her pick of suitors. Unfortunately, her father cheated a rival, who, in retaliation, cast a curse upon the poor child, turning her into a man. Sanriselle is still quite stunning, the most beautiful man to ever grace the land, but a man nevertheless. He has so far kept this turn of events secret and continues to string along the numerous suitors in the hopes that a cure may be found.

Frederik of the Seven Toes
He was not born with seven toes, nor did Frederick have three toes chopped off during his younger adventuring days. No, Frederik earns his appellation due to the seven shriveled toes which he wears on a leather strip around his neck. These tiny, dried-up toes once belonged to St. Machlamel a demi-god, who Frederik favors and reveres. Frederik travels the lands doggedly searching for the remaining three toes of his patron-saint. Once the three lost toes are found, then shall St. Machlamel at last have eternal peace, but that is a tale for another time.

Lemok the Last Rider
Lemok was a simple peasant with high aspirations. Unhappy with his lot, he dreamt fondly of being a landed knight. He would perform mock battles while riding the family donkey and swinging a heavy branch. One day, whilst wandering the woods and swinging his sword stick, he came upon a man who had let his horse stray while napping. Quick to seize an opportunity, Lemok stole the horse and rode away. He kept going for many a day, begging or stealing food to survive, until well away from his homeland. Once he was comfortable that he would never be discovered he began spreading tales of how he was the last living rider of the faraway King Gavilnach and that he would pledge himself to any Lord who would take him on.

Zippappulous had the most awe inspiring entrance to the throne room ever. During a feast for a visiting delegation, Zippappulous fell from the second story, his foot got stuck around a drape cord as he fell. The drapes swooped open revealing a cold, yet beautiful, sunset as he swung past the main table. His shirt coat caught the hilt of a sword slowing his swinging momentum and unsheathing the sword. The sword flew through the air and landing point first in the wild boar that was just being brought in. Zippappulous was on his feet by the time attention went back to him.

"That was amazing, Zippappulous," said King Jillianous the third.

Dorwin the Fairy Killer
Once a high knight of the court, Dorwin was cursed after accidentally trampling down a fairy queen while leading a raid on orcish marauders. The fairies placed a spell on Dorwin that he could do no harm to a living creature again: his blade would be turned and his footing unsure anytime he tried to fight anything. Dorwin sought revenge on the fairies, vainly searching for a way to lift the curse and attempting to crush any fae he can find. The fairies mock him with the title "Fairy Killer", constantly following and harassing him.

Meaghann 'the Devil' Tenclay
Meaghann Tenclay was the Goddess of the gaming store: approachable good looks and an inviting smile.  She came in every Sunday to play a conversation heavy Star Trek RPG with a group of snobby Ph.D.s (all overweight men) who, for all their education, should have had something better to do than role-play.  Her nose was tiny and pointy like a little four side die.  Meaghann had high elf like check bones, a curly main of long brown hair that reminded me of Kerri Russell from Felicity (J.J. Abrams can do wrong!) and a squeaky high voice that sported a slight speech impediment. She sounded like Madeline Kahn from Blazing Saddles. Her figure was full though not fat, she said she was a runner, but she was equipped with well-defined hips and a wide back side.  She wasn’t loud or bossy either like most female gamers, and she always smiled at me and remembered my name.  Every time Meaghann turned me down for a date she was so kind about it that I didn’t feel rejected until hours afterwards.   Yet I was rejected, so finally with some mail order books I set out to sell my soul for one date with Meaghann Tenclay.  Thirteen sacrificial chickens later, I summoned the prince of darkness forth in my parent’s garage.  When the brimstone cleared, I looked up from my prostrate position and saw Meaghann standing in the center of my pentagram. She smiled at me, a different smile than the gaming store smile.  Then she laughed and said “This avatar gets me more of you geeks than Magic: The Gathering and Pokemon combined.”  For our date we went to see Episode 1 in 3-D.  The devil paid for her own ticket.

Rushing into combat just never made sense to Renar or his father.  All Orcs  sat around the campfire singing about the number of ears around  their necks, but long ago the ancestors of the Brighaxe clan learned that more ears could be found in the second and third lines of combat.  With most the other Orc warriors charging into battle cutting down scores and eventually being cut down themselves, numerous trophies were left on the field.  Enter the Brightaxe clan, so named cause their weapons stayed clean, to claim the spoils.  Orcs being none too bright as a whole, failed to take note of the Brightaxes' tactics for year.  Until Renar, he was the least devious addition to his clan and his poltroonery was found out.  He earned the title blood-drinker, because the other Orcs said "Renar doesn't have enough bite chew his kills."

Brother Gillhan the Close
Brother Gillhan had both an incredible memory for chants and songs, and a beautiful singing voice. Unfortunately, he also had a love of garlic and a tendency to stand far too close to others when conversing with them (a habit he learned in his home country, or so they say.) Instead of gaining a reputation for his singing, he instead earned the moniker "The Close" and was unable to outlive it.

Piledriver Phil
A member of the Sons of Scorpions, Phil is a brutal henchman of Wildman David Doubleyou. An army deserter, he has heavy mods in his arms, bones and sinew replaced with biosteel, giving him the appearance of a hulking gorilla. When David Doubleyou wants a good laugh, he sics Phil on them: the biker has a habit of watching old wrestling holos, and his favorite move is drive a victim headfirst into the ground. With Phil's mods, that usually results in a crushed skull and shattered spine, and sometimes complete decapitation.

Storn Holafsson, the Glad Baron
Storn worked hard to make his dreams of fame come true. He dressed in an outrageously stylized Renaissance noble's costume and gave himself the name of Storn "Mad Baron" Holafsson and practiced his trademark look of complete madness. He posted videos of his crazed antics for all to see. Unfortunately, he ended up being his own parody and was generally referred to as Storn Holafsson, the "Glad Baron" when his carefully cultured look of madness appeared more like that of a simpleton's big smile.

Gory Gary

Gory Gary was previously better known as DJ Overkill and considered himself a musical agent provocateur or an aural assassin, dropping beats and spinning tables. He ran in the rave/dubstep scene and was also deeply involved in the drug industry. In real life he was Gary Viars and he lived in a suburban house inherited from his parents when they died. Growing up Gary had been a boyscout, then joined the Junior Hunters Association, and went on to hunting and even taxidermy school. He started with ducks, and their bright colors and plumage. He started hunting a new prey, attractive women. Rather than shooting or strangling his victims, he seduced them, he camouflaged himself as one of the the in crowd to get close to them. One at a time he brings them to his home, seduces them and makes love to them. Then, he gives them a lethal injection while they are sleeping. The bodies are then taxidermied, skinned and wrapped around department store mannikins. When the police finally found Gary, after a lengthy investigation worthy of a forensic thriller, they found a gallery of Suicide Girl trophies in his house. Gory Gary the Collector would become a media sensation. He received the Death Penalty and is currently on Death Row

Dynamo Dan the Turbocharged Man
"Dynamo Dan" Abernathy was a breakout college football star, a hero quarterback who turned down NFL offers out of high school. The reason: he was also an engineering genius and wanted to earn a doctorate. Tragedy struck when Abernathy was injured in a brutal hit in the playoffs, crippling him from the waist down. At first hopeless, he further honed his engineering skills and soon developed his own custom-built prosthetic that he planned to replace his own legs with. The prosthetic was so powerful it required its own battery source, which he planned to have installed in his torso. He had to find a Canadian experimental doctor who was willing to make the dangerous amputation surgery and installation of the permanent prosthetic, but the new Dynamo Dan was faster than ever. After the NFL denied him admission because of "unfair advantage", he popularized the new prosthetic equipment for the military and police. Dan later even turned to crimefighting, calling himself "The Turbocharger" - a moniker that proved an insufficient disguise, as everyone recognized the former football star.
