I have good news: the symbol of all things adventuresome, is well and alive. I was solidly amused, and really wanted his hat towards the end, so the movie magic worked.
Indy is pretty cool, you get your dose of swashbuckling and humor, and nostalgy as well. There is the old love interest, and some youthful sidekick you don't need to ignore all the time, only sometimes. The imagery is in the ancient yellowish tones we so know and love, and the creators sought to preserve. There are also some delicious fifties references. Mmm, likey!
The action seems to have amped up a bit, running on Viagra or due to a curse of the Mummy franchise, but you can live with that. The plot can be mostly ignored.
What I need to complain about though, are certain... container issues. Without much spoilers:
- 1. the escape in one container left a bland aftertaste; luckily it was followed by a truly impressive period-relevant image, and a nice joke.
- 2. a certain container was broken, with the contents briefly shown... and it was marked. It's a nasty oversight that is bound to disappoint the true expert.
All in all, it was great fun, and worth seeing. It had some shortcomings, but is still miles ahead of any competitors.
Long live Indiana Jones! And I really need to steal his hat someday.
