Hello everyone, my name is Matthew, as you could glance by my username, and I am a Game Master. I have been game master-ing in some form or another for almost 12 years, and in that time I played with hundreds of players and the lessons I've learned and the worlds I've built are innumerable.
Allow me to go into a bit more detail about those "hundreds" of players I just spoke of. In high school I was the de facto DM for the RPG club. My school was big, around 8000 kids, and with that many kids, even a very small percentage wanting to try RPGs was a lot. Anyone in the school who wanted to learn D&D, or even if they knew how to play and just wanted a group to play with, they'd probably end up in one of my campaigns. Generally I ran two games, a big one with people who were inexperienced and/or couldn't come every week, and a smaller more serious one with a more consistent schedule; at the height of the clubs popularity, I was running 4 games at once, each with at least 5 players, and was a player in 2 other campaigns. Nowadays however, I'm in college and I only DM one group, as well as an semi-annual reunion game I run when I'm home.
But my personal backstory can go elsewhere, before this post is over I have two quick questions:
Is there a section either here on the forums or on the main Citadel dedicated to GM-ing articles and stories, as opposed to settings and characters?
If I were to begin posting a setting, where is a good place to start?
I can't wait to dive into this community!
