Virtual Tables
« on: December 30, 2007, 01:29:22 AM »
We have played with this concept before. At one time, the Labrynth was going to be an online game table. It might be fun to be a center for table top games. So there are a couple of services OR programs you can use.

So what do all of you think?  Virtual table tops worth the effort?

I'd use them.  My games are sporatic at best, due to the fact that half my gamer's don't have any mode of transport (20+ miles being a bit too far for most to bike), but all have high speed internets, or live near someone who they could leach off of.  The only reason we haven't is a general lack of monies.   I'll probably end up using one of these after I go off to the air force to play with current gamers...
They were immediately and absolutely recognizable as adventurers... They were hardy and dangerous, lawless, stripped of allegiance or morality, living off their wits, stealing and killing, hiring themselves out to whoever and whatever came. They were inspired by dubious virtues.  China Mieville - Perdido Street Station

They do seem quite interesting... two of them completely free, all others offering demos.

Did anyone actually try any of those out?
Do not correct me, I know I am wrong.

Never had anyone else to use them with.  I have been on many meetings using the WebEx system. I have always through that would work, with enough effort. Of course some of the MUD or MUSH software can do much of it.

If you are not playing a game that needs "tactical displays" and things are narrated, simple text chat might be the key in that context.

Have thought about it. Ran a campaign for a year using MSN , skype and email before it petered off..
No tactical displays though, since I've never owned minatures, did not effect my style overmuch.
