I kinda' liked the Final Fantasy movie, but I'm a FF fan, so you can't really put any store on my opinions.
However, it needs to be said again:

Ohhh, Greccio! You are just a kid!
I thought you were Cap or Scras having a bit of fun at our's expense!

Awwww.... You can look forward to many fun years of gaming! I kind of envy you that ;)

And my favourite movie quotes are Schwarzenegger's too! I love those cheesy old one liners: "Hang around!" and "I'll be back!"

Such testosterone!

Ok, I will answer in this thread, as you requested per private message Greccio500:

I am 30 years old and I play computer games too! You know what? I also create computer games and am currently reading some nice books about 3D engines and game programming. I have not applied for a job in a major game company and I never will; the mainstream market does not appeal to me.

In regards to your age; it was easy to discover. Either you were a character created by one of the more mischievious forum GM's or you were indeed an active youngster. Your references to Disney and Pixar films busted you! As a parent I regard Disney films as a necessary evil, a chore even. My kids can watch'em but then I like to seclude myself in a room, far away and with a nice book.

Hope that answered your questions Greccio and remember this: There are huge differences between conversations in real life, and those conversations we have on the web. Especially those of us who like to communicate via forums like Strolen's Citadel*, must be prepared to wait potentially very long for an answer. Often an answer isn't forthcoming at all!

I wish you the very best and hope your future will bring many cool and enjoyable roleplaying-sessions.

Best Historical Film: The Patriot

Best Drama: Matchstick Men

Okay, if The Patriot is your best Historical and Matchstick Men is your best drama, we need to get to a movie rental place and force feed some classics down your throat (a subscription to AMC or Turner Classics might do as well).  Might I recomend (historicals), Rob Roy, or Wuthering Heights, or Pride and Predujice, or Of Mice and Men, or... well the list goes on. On the Dramatic side (with a touch of adventure) Maltese Falcon, Cassablanca (my vote for best all around movie ever), African Queen, Third Man, Citizen Kane (while no adventure, very dramatic piece). Color can be highly over rated.

Best Historical: Ben Hur. Though things could be say for Cleopatra or The Greatest Story Ever Told.

Best Drama: Do not have one I want to list at this time.

Best TechnoThriller: Sneakers, followed closely Hackers.  Others might have more flash (read Mission Expensive... err... Impossible) but few deliver good plot, dialog, drama, and science as these.

Best Dramatic Director: Hitchcock

Best Action Director: Wu

Best General Director: Spielberg

Yes, yes, Atlantis and similar Disney/Pixar films do have some nice features.
Yes, yes, the Incredibles and similar are well made and funny too (or so insists my CGI loving buddies ;))

But still, you mentioned them as favourites and said that some of them were really old... I mean, they were released like yesterday.

Time is relative Greccio, and how you position yourself in the context of time will tell others a whole lot about your age.

(Example: My grandfather would tell me about how he fought the Nazis as a part of a guerilla group, making it sound like it just happened. But to me WWII is something surreal and distantly removed)

And that is what I have to say about this matter. I will not explain myself further, I will not translate difficult words. Instead I once again urge you to use google.

Yea, Dune the movie wasn't as good as I thought it would be, it didn't really show enough of the philisphical and politicial views of the books.

I have written in this thread because I got a private message demanding that I do so. I have tried to be pleasant and forthcoming for a long time, but I'll admit that I am losing my patience. If there is anything you want me to explain to you Sentinel, please send me a private message.

Perhaps it is time that this thread reverted back to it's original purpose?

Best Godzilla film: Godzilla, King of the Monsters 1956 (The original US release with Raymond Burr, which is actually a better movie than the Japanese version Gojira (per some of my Japanese speaking friends). The whole symbolism of the movie, and characterization, is excellent.

Best daikaiju movie: Godzilla (1998) Yes this is the one with Micheal Brodrick. I like this move best because it shows the Giant Monster as a creature, an animal. This is a monster getting the best of the Military and Man, without having to be an incarnation of a force of nature (which is one of the reasons they explain why Godzilla (in movies past the first) can only be hurt by other daikaiju and can shrug off all military weapondry).

Best Daikaiju cartoon: Godzilla (1999) Given all the Godzilla cartoons, (US, Aussie, and Japanese) this series is the best of the bunch. This outweighs many of the other "friendly monster" cartoons including the Mothra one.

Best Monster Movie in my opinion: American Werewolf in London, still one of the best ever.

Most inspiring movie for roleplaying:  The Adventures of Buckaroo Banzai Across the 8th Dimension.  With the impossible made mundane, a band of talented misfits, and the world chanting their name, the Hong Kong Cavaliers are the ultimate pc troupe.  In a sense, all player-characters are mere shadows of Dr. Bonzai.  The movie has provided priceless inspiration, as a GM, player, and game designer.  And the closing credits scene will have you whistling/humming the song for weeks.

Best Unexpected Fight Scene: There is a tie. Both are in Serenity. Both involve with cute little 90lb girl. In the first she "removes" the patrons of an entire "tough guy bar" and casually takes down Jayne. (digression: Capt. Malcolm Reynolds: What in the hell happened back there?  Hoban 'Wash' Washburn: Start with the part where Jayne gets knocked out by a 90 pound girl cuz... I don't think that's ever getting old. ). The second is when the little girl goes out and takes out the most dangerous force of Reavers in the fricken 'verse.
