I need a term
« on: December 11, 2007, 02:55:07 PM »
Ok i have a character in a story im writing that is part animal but not much, just the ears, tail, teeth, eyes and reflexes of a cat, I know a few terms but i do not know what one i could use that would not confuse a reader and not make me soundlike an idiot,...Ya know? I also have some dog and reptile like characters too

Not to cover ones already done:
Nekko is the Japanese word for what you are describing.

Basts: The Horror fiction term for them, comes from the Egyptian God.

Blends: The mix of human+animal (or two animals) comes from the AHWW lists and tranformation lists.

Beta: The science fiction term for such a derived genetic construct.

Moreau: A creature who is the genetic/ surgical blending of human and animale genes.  Term comes from The Island of Dr Moreau, with Dr Moreau being their creator. Now if these creatures are created, they might have a similar name.

Adbomination: Depends if the public view of them is friendly or not.

Therianthrope if they are tranform...

How about "Felinthrope", from "Felis" (Latin for cat) and "Anthropos" (greek for man)

"Pantera" (Latin:  Panther) or "Homo" (Latin: Man) could be mixed in to give alternate words:

Something archaic and strange- "wight" means man, so how about catwight, or wightcat or something like that.
