A Tale of the Demon Gate Campaign
(writings from Roland, scribe of Thalos)The last bastion of goodness left in the rotting world of Kryllus was to be found in an old druid city protected by long forgotten spells. Within its’ magically fortified walls, lie what was left of the goodly races of the dying world. It is from within these walls that the tale of an unlikely band of heroes arose to give the generations that followed hope for rebuilding what was lost. We sit now in the aftermath of their great deeds and ultimate sacrifices with no clear guidance of how to proceed. But proceed we must to rebuild what was lost. I retell their story now so that new inspirations will set root in those that hear! To understand the present and where the future must go….I will start in the beginning….with the suicidal task issued by a council filled with once mighty kings hoping to save their people….with the individuals that heard there desperate call and responded for the sake of all the surviving peoples! This is the tale of betrayers, evil creatures, magical weapons and unlikely saviors…..this is the tale of the campaign that would attempt to finish the quest and seal the Demon Gate forever…….such a deed would give hope to a battle that was nearly lost.
“Bring in the loathed one…the betrayer of the peoples of Kryllus” echoed the voice of the human king in vast chamber of the Council of Kings. Low mutterings and gasps arose throughout the vast chamber from the seated high ranking officials of the druid city. Vallos, the human king was an ancient looking man who’s strong voice belied his frail physique. “Are you sure we are making the right decision” the elven king asked under his breathe to Vallos. The Elven King looked no older than 20 human winters, but was in fact over 200 years old. Vallos looked over at his friend with tired eyes and tried to smile his reassurance, “we have no choice old friend….time for safe plays is at an end…soon the magic that keeps us safe will ebb and fade for good and we the last people of Kryllus will be swept away.” The elven king tried to return the smile as he nodded is agreement. It was a hard decision that brought them to this point. A grunt emanated from across the table as the Dwarven King, Guntar Goldbeard, overheard his two peers bringing up the same old worries. Tugging on his long gray beard, Guntar glared over his wide shoulder at the regiment of dwarven officials seated behind him. His glare daring any of them to lose their composure in the squawk fest the human king’s announcement had stirred up.
There was one empty seat on the council and each of the remaining kings could not help staring at it from time to time. The empty seat of the traitorous Dark Elf King, Sindrachh was weighing heavily on each of their hearts this evening. The lord of the dark elves and his minions had all jumped ship and sold their souls to the false promises of the evil surrounding the druid city. They were no doubt disclosing vital information about the city to the shadowy army chipping away at it’s borders. The doors to the chamber slammed open and pulled the kings from their reverie as two armed guards escorted the manacled figure into the council chambers. The prisoner was quite large but most of his features were obscured by the concealing full length brown hooded robe. As the escorts neared the council table all was quiet except for the rattling of shackles on the cold stone floor. The troop stopped their charge and secured his manacles to the fixtures mounted in the granite floor. The secure holdings had been places centuries ago (by the long dead druids) within a huge and powerful containment rune. With a nod of approval from the three kings, the guards bowed and backed away from the kneeling and subdued prisoner.
As the guards began to back away a raspy cackle came from the kneeling figure as it’s head slowly rose to meet the glare of the three kings. Two bright red embers pierced through the darkness caused by the concealing shroud. A slight gust of wind blew through the chamber knocking back the hood to reveal a distorted human face. Spittle clung to a wild brown beard as the prisoner began to growl in hatred. The prisoner’s mouth opened wide and remained locked. Words spoken from something in-human began to echo in the chamber. “Pathetic wretches….I can smell your fear……the end draws near…..it is too late and we shall feed from your bleeding corpses!” The mouth never moved and shut as the last words were uttered. A twisted grin of satisfaction remained on the figures face as he finished. The Elvin King Tillador stood and faced the prisoner directly. “It has been a 100 years since you took him……now we have the means to send you back…..you will be banished from this realm for a 1000 years……and the guardian will be returned to extinguish the evil of your kind from our lands!” The king turned to his right and motioned the four priests garbed in ornate golden robes forward. “Begin the exorcism!” commanded the three kings in unison. The demon within the human host instantly began to writhe against its chains causing blood to flow freely from both bound wrists. Even though the body it inhabited belonged to a powerful man, there was not enough strength in any man alive to break free from four steel bindings laced with druidic power. And neither would the demon now in possession of this body! The priests continued their advance and began to mutter an incantation in some ancient dialect. The runes surrounding the demon began to glow as the priests’ voices came to a climax. From the corner of the chamber a fifth priest advanced carrying an object. As he cleared the shadows in full view the demon a new scream of terror shook the very walls of the chamber. The advancing priest held out a huge glowing battleax which seemed to grow brighter the closer he got to the demon.
As the Elvin King watched, his hand grew tight around a lock of hair. He whispered in a voice only he could hear…..”You will be avenged Aden….I promise you!” His silent whisper was muted by the new screams erupting from the voice of the possessed man….and man who was once known as Bear.
OOC: Hey all. Pretty much the way I like to GM/guide the story on this thread is....you can post anything you like concerning your character. The one exception is...the end result to their actions. You can post what your character will attempt and even a backup action if time permitts......and I as the moderator will post the end results. Should be alot of fun.
