Basically, you can make your own Custom Charachter, which is meant to represent you. Then, through many different means, you acquire items and charachters from all over the Multiverses. You can than gain levels with them, enter tournaments, Rp, or sell them for money, which you can use to get more self.
And as for that, i really do not know. "an" does seem natural there.
