Ahhh... The Dark side of Rune Quest... too many dice rolls.
This here are the rules. This entry explains what you ask about: http://strolen.com/guild/index.php/topic,3724.msg65992.html#msg65992
The SHORT VERSION:
Your DEX score decides how FAST you are. LOW DEX = Slow, HIGH DEX = Fast.
DEX Dex Strike
Your 6 DEX gives you a DEX "Strike Rank" score of 4. That is slow. Very slow.
You use the DEX only table cause you use firearms. The "Slither" and "Huge" use the DEX + SIZ table, and add "Natural Weapon SR", which = 3. (That table is not pasted into this thread. You have to follow the link to find the melee table)
If your head hurts: Welcome to Rune Quest based combat systems. You have been shielded from this earlier.
I want you to roll 1d4. And I want you to add 5 to that roll. That makes for a score between 6 and 9.
The 1d4 is my homebrew addition to the RQ system. It is to make combat rounds a bit more dynamic and exciting. In standard RQ everyone always do stuff in the same order.
In RQ based systems the one with the LOWEST initiative is first.
Helena is surprised, she does not have initiative this round. She must wait, and can only dodge and parry.
Riv is delayed by a fumble, he cannot act until the next round.
AG: would you please explain what you want me to roll? I'm kind of confused
Cormac, the being up on the crate is crawling to attack you, and it is fast.
Roll 1d4 for initiative and add 4 (DEX) + 1(Pull the trigger) = 5 + 1d4 = ?
Where did you get DEX=4? I have DEX=6.
Huge Entity attacking Helena:
Melee SR 3 + 3 (claws) + 1d4 (inititative) = 6 +
Rolled 1d4 : 1, total 1
Slithering Entity viciously clawing at Cormac:
Melee SR 4 + 3 (blade tail) + 1d4 (initiative) = 7 +
Rolled 1d4 : 4, total 4
As I understand it,
Huge -> initiative = 7
Slither -> initiative = 11
Helena -> initiative = ?
And you want me to roll:
1D4 + 4*DEX + (GM defined difficulty of 1) = my initiative.
Is low bad? Is low good? If low is bad, then why am i getting such a low score when i have my finger on the trigger? If
low is good, why does your DEX score work against you?
