Player Request: Manifest Desolation
« on: July 29, 2007, 03:24:14 AM »
"This is my final entry.  Everyone's dead.  Every single one of them...  Something we couldn't find on the scanners took us out one by one.  Even the ones who tried to quarantine themselves fell apart in their suits.  Oh God!  I'm the only one left...  It won't get me, I won't let it.  I won't wait for that sort of death.  I'll take my own way out..."  *kshhht* ++ END OF TRANSMISSION++

"The preceding was a voice transmission from Dr. Richard Gerard, a xenobiologist working on the space station Blue Heaven.  The space station is a lab facility owned and operated by Crowe Industries.  It orbits Tellariel Sigma in the Borron-Tellariel system, a dead planet according to all surveys.  Shortly after Dr. Gerard's transmission, all contact with Blue Heaven was lost.  We were able to connect to the station's main data center long enough to run a preliminary log scan.  According to the ship's sensors, there were no life forms aboard.  However, due to an equipment failure onboard the station and subsequent data corruption, our computer technicians were unable to recover any further information.  It is possible that Dr. Gerard suffered from spacer's madness and could have become violent, but that is merely a hypothesis.  As Crowe Industries is a private company, I want to keep this investigation low-key.  I would like to hire a team to discreetly investigate what happened on my space station."  - John Crowe, President of Crowe Industries

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I've decided to take another try at running a forum game.  Sci-fi/horror type game.  Space travel is common and humanity has spread across most of the galaxy.  Star Trek level of tech, probable contact with aliens (one, two species).  Human characters preferred, but I'm willing to negotiate (cyborgs, andriods, genetic experiments, etc).  I'm looking for eight players maximum.  Right now, I'm not going to enforce a certain posting rate, but I reserve the right to change my mind once the game gets going.

The characters will either be employees of or subcontracted by Manifest Security, a glorified mercenary company, which has been hired to investigate Blue Heaven.  Military, scientists/doctors, and tech-heads are good types of characters, but I'm open to anything.

Please PM me your character in the following format-
Name:
Age:

Background:

Once I approve your character, you can post it in this thread if you like.

Name: Syrus Blackwater
Age: 32
Occupation: retired space marine, Uncharacterized discharge, now a merc.
Background: Syrus grew up with a hard life. At the age of 18, he joined the Space Marine corps. After many years as a scout and sniper, he became slightly less happy with just taking orders from ignorant lieutenants. After an arguement with his company commander, from which the Captain walked away with a broken jaw which is unexplained on record, Syrus was discharged under uncharacterized conditions. After working as a freelance mercanary, Syrus heard about Crowe Industy's cry for help. Needing the money, and wanting some adventure, Syrus decides to find out if his services would be useful on the expidition.

Name: Guy Montag
Age: 50
Occupation: Security Contractor (mercenary)
Background: Formerly a marine in the war torn Chaos March, Guy Montag hung up the power armor and took up a less demanding career in civilian security operations. Technically a mercenary Guy (pronounced Gee) serves as a tough as nails security officer on merchantmen and freighter craft.

He has a distinguished service record, but his accomplishments are considered largely null and void as the issuing government in the Chaos March is now defunct. He served as ship born marine, deploying in hand to hand combat on enemy ships as well as participating in shuttle and dropship assaults. He has good skills as a marksman, basic knowledge of demolitions, breaching hulls and bulkheads, and securing basic computer functions.

Name: Thrask Mynor
Age: 34
Occupation: Outlaw
Background: Thrask is an ex-bounty hunter who has crossed the wrong people. He was never one for being fair, and would often betray employers for more money, or other, more valuable rewards. After he helped an intergalactic mass muderer escape from his fellow hunters for the promise of riches, he had a bounty put on his own head. He has'nt stopped running since then.

Thrask is a skilled gun fighter, as many of his former bounties have seen. He dislikes large weapons for their "bulkines". He is also good at hacking computer systems, doors, and even basic droids.

Name:       Derek Longshadow
Age:     43 Terran Standard
Occupation: Pilot/Astrotech
Background: Originally a bush-pilot from Zantarii III, he was recruited from his work shuttling prospectors and claim-jumpers to join with Manifest Security, who offered better pay and didn't try to kill him to avoid the fare.

Derek has a simple approach to life which belies his technical skills.  Looking more at home on horseback, there were few on Zantarii who knew the insides and the outsides of a flier better then he.

His prized possession is an archaic .45 caliber slug-thrower which he prefers over beamers or other 'prissy' weapons.

Name:  Dr. Malcan Tran

Occupation:  Xenotechnology Analyst / Archaeologist

Age:  54 Standard Years

Appearance:  Dr. Tran is a tall, dark-haired man from a system with a largely oriental population.  He has an unsettling way of looking into vacant space when talking to people, rather than looking into their eyes, a cultural habit that remains from his home colony.

Description:  Considered something of a renegade by the academic community, Dr. Malcon Tren is one of a handful of experts specialising in the effects of alien environments on technological development.  He has personally seen dozens of alien cultural and technological finds (although rumors sometimes surface of other sites, not generally revealed to the public) and rightly considers himself to be the best possible man for any sort of alien contact.

After an ugly public argument with the politically-minded head of his system's DoEP (Department of Educational Programming), he found his academic career shunted into increasingly futile endeavors.  This left him willing to enter the private sector, even if it meant his research efforts would be diverted into "black" corporate research programs:  At least the salary provided by Crowe Industries compares favorably with academia.

Malcan is very familiar with the equipment used in various hostile environments, but is not a skilled gunman.  He has only occasionally piloted small craft, generally depending entirely on the pre-packaged software provided for the purpose.

I now have five players.  I'm going to give it a couple more days before I close the player request.  I'm going to start the game Friday-Saturday, somewhere in that general time period.  Before the game actually goes live, you will get a PM with the mission briefing and any extra information your character is cleared to have.  (Bio, you've already gotten yours.)  Any questions, pm me.

Since it is capable of independent action, it would have entered the airlock upon being directed to do so.  Not expecting the man on the station to SHOOT it, Dr. Tran would not have stopped it from entering:  He wanted to establish contact.

His strange reaction:  An obvious case of space madness.

Yo Biohazard - might want to wait until we post, at least when dictating what others are doing.  For one thing, Derek is not going to be on the station until well after the others have entered, and brandishing his gun openly is simply not his style...

Also, I had envisioned us going in wearing some sort of protective gear:  Hostile environment suits or Vacc Suits seemed most likely.

Approaching a potentially hostile station, we should have been wearing our vacc suits already.

Yeah, actually I said that in game:

"Sure enough! Suit up folks - no tellin' how many systems are f'd up - and please stow any loose gear."
Quickly donning his helmet, he dropped the visor and switched over to full life support.

So, I'd cut off your post at "Thrask heard the airlock opening and quickly ran into the closest room available."

You can control your actions, but not other PCs without clearing it with them in Chat,OOG or PM....

Don't make Dr. Tran go first!  If you think he annoying now, see how he acts if the military types drag their feet after being so eager to get aboard the station...
