Challenge of a more aesthetic kind
« on: June 09, 2007, 09:35:05 AM »
Those of you that have been in and around the Citadel, have surely noticed the occasional special character or a few. Yes, the beloved â, €, ™, œ, or my current favourite - . A few may be even valid, most are junk. :( They arised during one of the moves and conversions, and have been with us ever since. Sadly, it is not possible at the moment to remove them in some easy mechanical way. Many of them have been already targeted and destroyed, the rest of the buggers has mutated beyond easy detection, and only if someone happens across them, can they be spotted and exterminated.

And this is where you come in.

If you find a post afflicted with special characters, please post the link here.

If it is your post, it would be nice if you'd do it yourself, but it is fine to just post the link.

If it is very long, and the buggers are in some comment, a link to that specific place is really welcome.

If it is only one you happen to find, it is okay, post it. If you find a hundred, it is still okay, post it. (But then we would have to reward you in some way... *scratches head* ...well, we shall see how this works first. :) )

Anyway, if you find some, post a link here. In time, they shall be... vanished.

They were immediately and absolutely recognizable as adventurers... They were hardy and dangerous, lawless, stripped of allegiance or morality, living off their wits, stealing and killing, hiring themselves out to whoever and whatever came. They were inspired by dubious virtues.  China Mieville - Perdido Street Station

First batch processed. Oh, and yes, Dragon Lord is a known culprit. Still filtering that man out. :p

Thanks a lot!

And, of course you fixed them just ahead of me hitting the link... I was wondering why nothing was wrong.

Heheh! Don't worry, there's enough special characters for everyone!

(Plus anything double-checked is ten times as worth.)

It's clean, meaning my quasi-scientific Ctrl^F, and then searching for € turned up nada.

AG's http://www.strolen.com/content.php?node=1791 has at least one small bubble of chaos in it. 'tis in the first blockquote.

Bubbles of chaos have been brought up to the lawful standard.

Thanks, Chaosmark!

Not to forget: the Idea Seeds will have a few as well. When they are back, we will want to sift those through as well.

Also, NPCs out of History deserve a solid cleaning up: http://www.strolen.com/content.php?node=2007

This should be bumped and followed up on.  They are reappearing again.

Where are they? Where?

Oh, and yes. The "miraculous suggestion multiplier" bug should be followed as well. Luckily is this a recent one, so the afflicted pieces should be easy to find.
