@Dark: AAAAAAAAAAAAAGH! Cheer up, Dark. It's gotten a lot better since the days of sawing or slow slicing. Compared to history, the stuff we think up and read in literature is pretty tame, probably because it's just disgusting at a certain point and no longer entertaining. Same reason why fantasy settings don't include sexual violence or child endangerment. You can tentatively even add sexism, racism, and slavery to that list. Most people just don't have fun reading about that stuff, even if that's the way it was.
