So I was thinking about a Two Worlds Campaign the other day...
« on: December 12, 2014, 12:33:34 PM »
Two World Fantasies have falled a bit out of vogue.  Guardians of the Flame, Thomas Covenant Series, or the Old D&D cartoon are well known for this - People from our world go to another world, adventure ensues.  I thought about such settings, especially from an Urban Fantasy point of view.  I was toying with the idea, when I encountered this.

http://english.bouletcorp.com/2012/12/21/war-of-the-worlds/

It soured me slightly on it.  I have encountered things on the net that reworks the Fables Invasion or has the UK invade Narnia for food and resources in WWII or a cyberpunk world developing gate tech to pillage a low magic fantasy world. This cartoon is along the same lines.

Still - Modern People in a fantasy world. The juxtoposition is what makes it more interesting. Modern sensitibility in a medieval world, with occasional forays into modern tech into a lower tech world.   If you can avoid the whole StarGate/ Military invasion angle, but just have it be a one way trip or only a small number able to transfer it seems interesting.  Any thoughts?

Yessir! And learning something interesting. No one is in any kind of rush to "get back" stateside (or in val's case, northside. Or in Echo's case, Euroside.)  :)

It often irritates me in shows and movies when people spend the whole time pining/whining over their lost lives, families, etc, and just want things to go back to normal. Not saying it's unrealistic, just that it annoys me.

Ones desire to return to their modern life likely correlates strongly with both the quality of that life and in the case of bodily transference, the physical health and life expectancy of their earth side body, or lack there of. ;)

This is actually a great point, and one that most people probably don't think about. It also shows up in other mediums, such as the webcomic "Misfiled". One character affected wants to go back to the way they were before, but the other slowly discovers that they used to be a terrible person, and would've died in a car wreck, and thus doesn't want things to change.

MoonHunter,

Ask Aramax about His version of a 'Two Worlds' game.

You might be pleasantly surprised!
