The Son of Quest
« on: August 16, 2006, 11:38:08 PM »
Okay, it's time to decide on the next quest.  I intend to kick it off on September 1st.  So, let me know what you want to do for a quest.

The options are Item: Transports, Lifeforms: Unique, Locations: Fortifications, Societies: Artistic/Performance, or something to do with the Sky (which would need sky in the freetext).  Any questions?

Oh, and vote.

Thats tough because as soon as you tag the type of sub to be a quest, doesn't that tag all of the old subs in that same category to become a Quest submission? Like if you tagged the Lifeforms category, would it put the quest tag on all Lifeform subs previously posted.

Besides just being a darn good idea, SKY being a freetext entry eliminates that issue.

Sky has the advantage is that you can put in anything having to do with air, so we can have floating castles, flying creatures, j-x11 rocket packs, societies of airshipment, and a variety of things.  Vote Sky. Vote now.

Terrible selection

I'd say less "terrible" than it is "eclectic"... Are we choosing neglected categories or something?r

On the subject of "Sky", I would say that it is precisely it's open-endedness that makes it a bad choice. If we have flying castles, flying dragons, sky gods, jetpacks, and airplanes all in the same Quest, how are we going to judge?

Yes, the point is to choose something that is neglected. If it is something of a challenge, then you will earn the Quest points (and they may be higher depending on percieved difficulty) so it should even out...probably.

No, there is no feature to suck up old posts. A quest is a quest. It starts and ends, only those in the time period will be counted.

Sky would take moderation that is greater in scope than the Shards quest since it does go over all categories...which the quest can actually NOT do at the moment. So, if we choose sky, it will have be at least defined to a single category, then it still must be moderated inside that category.

If sky gets chosen, we can define it more then.

As for the selection, I basically went through and picked out the categories with fewer than twenty submissions, then I picked a set from those.  A theme quest was requested, which is why the Sky is up there.

That is worse than Sky because it ranges so broadly.

We have Pern and Darkover which are Science Fiction to the Spectrum of Asimov and Gibson.  Maybe a division inside science fiction... Robots?

The citadel has many, many lifeform threads. I therefore urgently request you, dear citadellians, to vote for Transports!

I'm not going to try and persuade you to vote for one option or another

Yes I am, MWAHAHAHA

There are not very many submissions that fall into the Transport category, only 16. This section could really benefit from a quest generated influx of material. The quests cause us to really dig deep into the creative vaults to come up with some really cool ideas. Even if Transports isnt selected as the quest winner, I still encourage Citadellians to submit their transportation ideas, as great as a quest heading is, it isn't essential.

Make with the Transports!

Unique lifeforms are solitary creatures, one of a kinds, not new races. These are the bizarre alchemical hybrids, freakish monsters, and the thrice cursed victims of the gods. There are also only 16 submissions as Unique Lifeforms. This section could be quite easy since there is no need to create historical settings, social and economic dynamics, just coming up with really cool, weird, and totally bizarro-tron monsters.

Unique Monsters are Winning! GwaHaHaHa

11 Fortifications, just 11! This is a travesty. In a genre as thick with castles as the typical swords and sorcery, the fact that we have just 11 castles and fortifications is inexcusable.

Castles are going to get some attention from me no matter what!

Artistic and Performance societies has TWO entries. TWO.

And one of the two is mine!

And Finally, the Sky. I think this is the only idea from the previous challenge that made it to the second list, and it didn't do well the first time around. Aim High, the sky's the limit, into the wild blue yonder. As a medium with few limitations, why should we not pick the Sky?

Besides, if it isnt picked, it will keep showing up on each quest challenge until it is selected. So I voted for it.

Aside from the quest:  You know... we could have a contest. Who can post the largest number of submissions of quality in a 72 hour period.  Announce it a Wed or Thursday, go live as of 0001 GMT.

This would be based on the total XP gained for the period. (Thus you would get more for larger posts).  OR based on the number of 4xp+ posts you make per day.

Note: not allow things that were in the work space/ Scroll Comments do not count.

Or the contest could be again, the largest number of posts, but in this case over a week and only in the categories with the least number of submissions.  (thus it would change... so you would have to be fast... if it takes you two days to post a certain kind of post, but it is no longer the lowest numbered category by that time.....)

Just throwing those out there.... we now return to the regularly scheduled thread.
