I come in peace and with offerings
« on: May 02, 2006, 01:07:45 PM »
Hi New here,

have spent a good few hours today looking for websites with good adventures or hooks to start up my campaign but it wasn't until I stumbled upon this place I knew I had found what I was looking for. Great site, can't wait to explore it more.

I was immediately inspired so much that I have already conceived how I am gonna start out my new campaign. You can find my brainchild here: Lost Legacy - A Starting Adventure. It's a work in progress that I only just typed out now. Would love some suggestions and feedback on it, particularly for the final part that I have yet to come up with a suitable hook for.

Welcome to the site... be care free and stay away from the penguins. They bite.

As I too was once new here I can only begin to think how much I have changed in my writing and my work since coming here. Don't be afriad to ask for advice or give some. No advice is bad, just perhaps not useable.

I recommend reading a few of the articles up first check out the Advice codex located here. Citadel Advice There are many more good articles to read from to get ideas for better submissions, better writing, as well as better campaign management. You name it you can probably find it here. And if not, put it up for all to read.

Glad to see a fresh face, oh and I'll take a peak at what you've got there.

Thanks.

A little twist I just conceived is to use this not only as a plot hook for some midlevel adventures (Alander is gonna be a &^%$@ to deal with for the players, though could eventually become an ally), but also as a hook for a more epic climax:

The sorcerer who 'helped' Elrin back then is in reality an ancient evil archwizard whose doom was foretold to him ages ago. He has since then done everything he could to try and avert the prophecy. The double curses were part of this plan. Gallasien was not the evil necromancer Elrin had been led to believe (a bit the same way Alander isn't - though definitely wicked). The two bloodlines featured in the prophecy though and so he took steps to wipe them out. Now centuries later, thinking himself secure, his nefarious plot begins to unfold.

Not wanting to make it too centered on the legacy of just one character though, but there will be plenty of time to weave more sub-plots into this longterm scheme to make this just one strand of many in the quest to unravel an on the surface invincible opponent.

Welcome to our fine halls.  If you're offered doughnuts don't eat the red and black ones.  Oh, and don't look up what grog is, you'll regret it.  :(

Read and posted some comments on you thingy that you did.
They were immediately and absolutely recognizable as adventurers... They were hardy and dangerous, lawless, stripped of allegiance or morality, living off their wits, stealing and killing, hiring themselves out to whoever and whatever came. They were inspired by dubious virtues.  China Mieville - Perdido Street Station
