Yes, but would it be possible to do other wise?   create a scale to judge intellegence that would not be biased to the human race?  If so what creature would then be the most itellegent? By the way Ria Love that quote!

it isnt possible to develop a non-biased system. Therefor we will never know the true most intelligent creature. Mainly because every species regards intelligence in a differant way.

Truth. Intelligence is subjective.

The planet does have at least one sentient race, though. (By sentient, I mean that two or more species agree that a specific race is intelligent. Intelligent is merely what one race believes of itself.)

Dolphins are sentient. Since we don't know if they regard humans as itelligent or merely as amusing animals, the only sentient race we know of for certain is that of the dolphins.

actually, we believe monkeys are sentient as well, but again, we know not what they think of us.

It's all relative, man.

You could say that a protozoa is more intelligent than us, because it has devoted it's life only to survival and has not complicated it's simple world with such stupid things as war, killing, weapons, death, truth, justice, the Protozoan Way, relativity, and any sort of thought.

Personally, I think that the cause of all suffering is fear.
Fear of dying, specifically.

Quote from: "Ria Hawk"
Actually, lemmings are smarter.  They don't really jump off of cliffs and drown themselves in the ocean.

But IF they would... would that not make a fine example for us humans? The reasoning was, that if they run out of resources to live, they commit nicely suicide, thus saving the world for future generations of lemmings. This I call a long-term strategy par-excellence!

Follow me... the world needs to be saved. - could get a REALLY new meaning.

I believe greed is the root cause of all suffering, but fear is a very close second

Greed is the chief source of pain.
Fear is the chief source of stupidity.
Put them together, and you get unstoppable juggernauts rampaging across the world.

Some have fallen.  Not all of us.  Not as long as there are still people who really give a d**n.  And not as long as there are still places where people with radically opposed views can rationally discuss these veiws and still remain friends.

I do believe that all are born into the materialistic world have to face the inevitable conflict of greed. Some may be able to resist the attractiveness of our materialidic surroundings and others will accept it, whether they do it blindly or not is determind by their own intelligence.  As for fear, yes it can and does make us do incredilbly stupid things however it also initiates our reactions to dangerous, or seemingly dangerous, situations and compels us to be more aware, as well as more cautious, with our own actions.

Intresting thought. As to the whole lemming issue, I wouldn't insult any animal, using the term loosely, by comparing them to humans. I was think more along the line of lemmings from the games.
