Jungleworld
« on: February 03, 2006, 09:05:59 PM »
A world where a lot of the landmass is dense jungle like South America. The tribal peoples know about the jungle dangers.Partly they are able to avoid them a lot of the time, partly they are semi-immune to the diseases.Of course every year some die but the majority survive. Frequently they war with each other, over land and water rights, or for other reasons. When they go to war it has different stages. A war might, if it's quick, not go beyond stage one, whilst the longer it lasts the more likely it will reach stage three.Repeated wars turn really nasty much quicker.

In the first stage, fighting is honourable. Captured spies are swapped, ransomed or at worst imprisoned rather then tortured and executed. Magic and biological warfare in the form of dirty weapons are not used-weapons are washed in clean water before battle so wounds are less likely to go septic and rot.

In the second stage, weapons are not washed, spies get worse treatment, civilians are likely to be targeted, towns and villages put under siege, everything gets nastier.

In the third stage, anything goes. Fungus-spears and other poisoned weapons, fire as a weapon, rape, torture and execution, dark magic of the most horrible kind, even on some occasions, genocide of a whole tribe.

OOC-If anyone has a good name for the Jungleworld and wants to share it,let me know.

To the east a range of mountians rise from the jungles and they are inhabited by a different people to the jungle tribes. Where the tribes have many gods, the Mountianeers (I'll give them a better name when I can think of one) are a One God people with a Manifest Destiny theology, that tells them to take what they can.

Muskets, pistols, swords and axes as weapons. Technology is at the level of the 1820's. Some food grown on mountian terraces, some traded with friendly tribes, some fished from the rivers, some stolen in raids from unfriendly tribes.Enough to get by. Mountian passes easy to defend from tribal attacks, and each village linked to it's neighbour by rope bridges or drawbridges that can be cut or raised in an emergency. Hard work and courage in battle are seen as the best virtues, lazyness and cowardice as the cardinal sins. The laws are generally commonsense and rigidly enforced. Food and water are shared out but other things are private property.Troublemakers can be flogged, expelled or in the most extreme cases hanged, but there is not a lot of lawbreaking.

Slowly they are starting to chop down the forest to extend their territory.
