New to the Citadel
« on: June 14, 2005, 12:32:01 PM »
Hello all,

The name is POG (long story).  I currently reside in the permafrost (although it's not so frosty today).  In the past I was an avid gamer and after about 12 solid years of gaming, moved away from my companions, who still are at it.  I just stumbled upon the Citadel yesterday and I'm pretty excited about it.  I'm quite impressed by what I've seen and hope to add to what you guys have built here.

Ah yes, we are haven for gameless RPGers. That was the reason the site went up in the first place. Been gameless for about 5 years now and, hmmm, yes, the site has been around for about that long in different incarnations.

Welcome to our creative retreat!

Good question! Where did your name come from?
It's good to know what's happening around you, but it's better to know the inside stories that go with it.. The inside stories that matter to us and which change us.

We live in the world of search engines, and people still have easy questions?
http://acronyms.thefreedictionary.com/POG

This would be my guess
http://www.geocities.com/Hollywood/Bungalow/3972/

My second guess
http://www.boardgamers.org/yearbook/pogpge.htm

Of course, it could be short for something else, or their abbreviations, but I doubt it.

So... Do I win the Kewpie Dolls?

:D Thanks for the curiosity.  I've had the name POG since '89.  Until that point I had been playing D&D and as a player only playing humans and demi humans but never something as revolting as a HOBGOBLIN!  In college I hooked up with a bunch of guys that were playing a palladium campaign and we could play other races, to include hobgoblins, which I jumped at.  I named my character POG because that sounded hobgoblinish  It was kinda liberating.  As a game master I had played monsters but this was out of control.  Especially since I wasn't evil per se.

Any way the fellas I met during that game became really good friends and still are to this day.  POG is easier than my real name and kinda fits my personality so it stuck as a nickname.  There are people in the world who know me by that name only.  Odd thing is I pulled that name outta...you know.  I hadn't even heard the word POG.  I grew up in NYC so we didn't drink POG or play with POG's so...

That's the story...

They mean nothing, unless there's a...

MONSTER DANCE!

:hyper::hyper::hyper::hyper::hyper::hyper::hyper:
:hyper::hyper::hyper::hyper::hyper::hyper::hyper:

Anyway...
Well, I can't say that I'm a fan of D&D, and I've never played Palladium. But that's immaterial.

I don't know what the monster dance is but....I'm frightened.

It's beautiful.  I can still say that after all the time I've been here.  When I first got here I was dying to leave, being a city boy and all.  But it kinda grows on you.  I met my wife who's from here, got a good job, brought a house that would cost me four times as much in New York.  Now she's the one who's restless.  I'm sure we'll be here another three years or so.  Maybe longer.  Sunny summers and snowy winters.

Ah, I guess POG experience nighttime sunlight as well then :)

I do not live far enough north for 24 hour sunlight, but I do experience 22 hours sunlight a day, especially now when there are only 2 days left till midsummer. Winter is another story ;)

Ancient Gamer,

Where are you at?  I'm not far enough north for sunlight 24 hours either and I'm glad for it.  That means I'm not far enough north for 24 hours of darkness either.

Unfortunate?  Nah, could be worse.  I've a good friend who moved from Alaska to Oslo a few years ago and he seems to be having a good time.  Besides, you're one to talk :)

Good to see you Joe.  Check your email.

Question for the veterans:  I just submitted my first item and I submitted it twice by accident.  How do I erase one of them?
