Well, I do believe we see things a bit differently. When I say religion, I mean a set of beliefs, values, morals, etc. If you believe in what's current as I stated earlier, you have no 'real' set of beliefs, only what seems truest at the time.(Doesn't read right but I'm sticking with it...the truest thing. hehe.)
In a religion like I state, and I find no other definition about it than that or belief in a supernatural power, there are at least, a fundamental belief or value system, which his thought does not have. But this means simply he has no religion in this sense, but you could argue that continually changing is a fundamental belief, which is what I think he is getting at.
Can anyone ever really understand the universe? I think you mean Life...becasue universe incorporates something that simply can't really be understood.
With his ideas, it seems most logical that looking at history will get you the farthest in learning about what ever it is you are learning about. Because really, how much can you learn in a lifetime that someone in the past hasn't already thought of or figured out. And that won't get you anywhere because of the diversity of thought in the history of humanity.
And the reason I find this so repulsive is that it is simply...depressing, contradicting, and I said before, ludicrous.
We as individuals have no choices in life to make... we are but a single organic cell in the complexity of a living body... we are lone H2O molecules intertwined, bonding, connecting and repelling, flowing in the ocean currents.WE have as much choice and control in action, thought, and being- as a drop of water flowing down a mountain river has control/choice to dissent and flow upstream in accord to its own will.
If that is the truth, then why live? Why do 'anything'? And if you have no control over your thought...then what is this idea you've made, if what you say is true? This all seems self-contradicting. And offers no explanation about anything, and where did this idea come from, is it solely from you or is it an actual belief, that other people believe? It just doesn't make sense...it has no 'significance', is what I'm trying to say, it means nothing, even if it is true. So why would someone believe this?
