Which Religion For You?

Maybe it's a sign of some kind. Good luck with whatever path you choose,my friend. I know I could do with some. My own native religon of Hinduisim has always bewildered me with it's obssesion with ritual and the brutal caste system. (Only high born Hindus can become priests or spiritual leaders. Coming from a rather lowly caste myself,I resent this.)

Two years ago, I decided I was done with religon. Maybe Neo-Paganisim might just be the thing to brings back faith to my life, though my parents will take some time to come around to the fact that I'm seriously considering looking for an alternative path. My mom still thinks that practices like Wicca and Native American spirituality involve groups of cultists trying to summon demons. As for my father,he would probaly start wondering why I have to insist on being so ''d**ned strange.''

I'm still trying to figure out what a Unitarian Universalist is. Their description of it is quite vague.

With its historical roots in the Jewish and Christian traditions, Unitarian Universalism is a liberal religion -- that is, a religion that keeps an open mind to the religious questions people have struggled with in all times and places. We believe that personal experience, conscience and reason should be the final authorities in religion, and that in the end religious authority lies not in a book or person or institution, but in ourselves. We are a "non-creedal" religion: we do not ask anyone to subscribe to a creed.

Our congregations are self-governing. Authority and responsibility are vested in the membership of the congregation. Each Unitarian Universalist congregation is involved in many kinds of programs. Worship is held regularly, the insights of the past and the present are shared with those who will create the future, service to the community is undertaken, and friendships are made. A visitor to a UU congregation will very likely find events and activities such as church school, day-care centers, lectures and forums, support groups, poetry festivals, family events, adult education classes and study groups.

Yes, indeedy. I think I may try that, too- after all, it was #4 on my list... I'm not sure enough to be a secular humanist, and I don't feel like being a Quaker, 'cuz you have to swear off sex. Or was that the Shakers? Whatever. :)

Lol,we're all gonna be Neo-Pagans,eh? By the way, please forgive me my outburst of misery last night. Right now,I am a jaded, cynical aethist who has a huge void, one devoid of belief or faith in anything greater than I am.

However, this does not take  into account such non-dogmatic beleif systems, or individualistic philosophies (yes i know its a religeon query)... I only  wanted to state my junciticave parallels to the Cult of Abraxas, and Spinnoza's philosophy  on God.  Thus, combined,  and simply restated in "The Seeker's" articulation:
-All is a part of "GOD", for lack of a better noun.  Every tree,  rock, snake, cell, atom, human being, machine and even idea is an living instremity of the  Universal Force.  There  is no right,  no wrong.  Every  action ever set forth by any existing thing, and every dream, idea,  or thought... is in fact "GOD's" doing.
You are a microcosm inside this Force, and so is everything else. If you  kill someone else, it is but  a part of "God"  killing another part.  We  as individuals have no choices  in life to  make... we are but a single organic cell in the  complexity of a living body...  we are  lone H2O molecules intertwined,  bonding, connecting and repelling,  flowing in the ocean currents.
WE  have  as much choice and control in action, thought, and being- as a drop of water flowing down  a mountain river has control/choice to dissent and flow upstream in  accord to its own  will.  But, my friends, there is more... there are even contradictions within the UNIVERSAL TRUTH,  but human communicative powers will never posses the prowess to explain, let alone comprehend.
-Dissatisfaction  Guaranteed....-E. The Seeker

(Not that I completely understand his thoughts, they weren't explained in a great manner, but from how it read, these are my thoughts...)

Really? It is a biased opinion...my own opinion. But the way I see it, that just doesn't make sense, you accept that, you reject democracy...which is somewhat important to me at least, since I live in the United States...and second you discredit 999,999,999/1,000,000,000 humans who ever lived, whether you think that's of any consequence or not. Thirdly it's VERY immoral if you think there is anything that is wrong...like oh say Murder, rape, abuse. And fourth, I can't see or imagine any logical reason/evidence to support this, in my mind, ludicrous idea.

Again...it is only my opinion...and because I'm not okay with a belief that justifies murder and everything else I find immoral, you see me differently?
Well, you can see me as you may, but I must say, I find that belief very disturbing.

Ever found something ludricous, ridiculous, dumb? Well, that is all I'm saying, that that is how I see that belief.

Well, that wasn't what I was talking about, but in defense of Seeker, he specified that in his belief, everything is a part of God, thus, if you hurt or kill something, you hurt and kill a part of God, and even if there's no concept of good or evil, it's probably not a good idea to kill a part of God. Am I right, Seeker? I mean, you've basically condoned murder, there.

(Tangent: Let's think about this- if we are all part of God, this meshes very well with the Cells of God theory, which states that we are all cells in God's body. In a human body, a cell that attacks and kills other cells is generally diseased. If we follow the analogy, would not someone who kills another then be like a murdering cell in our bodies, a diseased thing?)

I fail to see how it contradicts democracy OR rejects all those people, and I don't see much evidence supporting that the Buddha became enlightened, or that Jesus really rose from the dead, either.

*shrug*

So, yeah. Don't know why I'm defending Seeker, I don't really agree with him either, but I did.

Well...I won't go into detail on anything, because I don't want to provoke any nasty arguments. But everyone has a right to believe what they say, I just don't like it, and everybody doesn't like something, so it really doesn't matter. And sorry if I offended anyone, it was not my intention.

Captain Penguin, you put  it perfectly in the "Cells of God Theory".  I was previously unaware of that particular nomenclature in reference to the subjected mode of consciousness,  and I am very appreciative to you for giving me valuable information that I will, no doubt, research.

Furthermore, I was genuinely impressed  by the proactive manner in which you responded, your unbiased and insightful approach (a trait  characteristicly enacted exclusively by the 'Wise'), as well as your open-mindedness and intuitive contemplation-(you refered to it as a

Araith, I am contrarily not offended. In  fact I value your argument, and your beliefs. The greatest feedback I desired was for others to think for themselves; and develop genuine, personal, non-dogmatic, meditated philosophies, which are not blindly  formatted directly from some other unknown human's writings-especially mine-without evalution and criticism aforethought.  Communally, I am gracious to trust that this is an ensemble that represents such probing inquery, and impartial consideration. I thank all of the Strolen's Citadel Community for such perspicacious <trust me it is a word> dialouge.

But, then again... I represent the qualities of being:

I claim only to be a "seeker," and a sage by no delusion.  My religeo-philosophic attitude changes with the tides, my quest for the fabled eternal truth is but far from the end of the path. I merely am able to read the page I am on, not the final line of the story.

I hope  everyone continues to post on this thread, for I am allways eager for guidance, and the knowledge all bring forth. Please, retort or assent... I am  eager to be  educated.

You sure are humbling...but I'm also sure you can retort as effectively as any other.

To me, that idea, of learning as you go along, and finding new ideas as you go along...weird.

Not the way I put it, but having that as your religion/philosophy. Because, it seems as no religion/philosophy at all. I can't say I really understand your thought very well, but from what I am infering about it, you have no 'real' beliefs, if you understand me. Because they can always change as you say. So what in the end, do you 'really' believe? Only what seems to be most 'recent' of 'true' at the time? Because that can be completely biased depending on your life and what your going through at the time.

It seems to me like this is a thought process...an open-minded thought process, where your willing to accept something new if it is 'more' logical or seemingly true than the previous thing. Not so much a religion in it's own manner. Comment?

I hope I'm not destroying this thread...if we need to move this to pming or something else I will.
