Recently DVRed Wristcutters: A Love Story, a movie about a guy who commits suicide, wakes up in limbo, which is a crapsack wasteland of where he lived and is populated solely by other suicide victims. He goes on a road quest to find his girlfriend who he learns also committed suicide, but is derailed by a quirky girl looking for the people in charge because she shouldn't be there because she didn't commit suicide. Distinct characters, some familiar faces ala Kubiak from Parker Lewis Cant Lose, and an engaging story.

I've been on a kick of ripping DVD's, which has been making it more convenient for me to watch all my old childhood favorites: Highlander, Beastmaster, the Mad Max series (I am hopeful yet fearful of what they'll do with Fury Road), Blade Runner, etc.

For s**ts, giggles, and a little bit of 90's nostalgia, I bought, ripped, and am also rewatching the entire 5 seasons of Renegade.

Man, shows were so naive back then. Hmm... that reminds me... I don't think I ever finished the Highlander TV series...

Oh, I'm also leisurely making my way through Moribito. I very rarely watch anime, but this one is pretty enjoyable.

Been awhile since I watched Outland. (Before today, that is.) Seems to me it's held up pretty well over time.

Reign of Fire...again.

Always loved this movie. I know many don't. Nice pre-super-fame performances by mconnaughey and bale.

Stop whatever your doing and go see Interstellar. Despite whatever heated scientific quantum debate you engage in with yourself and your friends after seeing it, you'll still love it!!

About halfway through season 1 of Marco Polo on Netflix. Very interesting show.

Also, on PA's recommendation, watching Galavant, which seems to me to be an interesting and fun experiment by the network.

The Blob (1988) - oozy goodness, inspiration for the Downington Spheres

2012 - John Cusack's disaster porn flick. I still want to do something with the arks from the end of the movie, but the seeds won't sprout.

The Day After Tomorrow - watched while it was snowing. Wife protested as she felt this was a bad movie choice considering the weather.

Terminator 3: Rise of the Machines - Possibly the worst movie in the franchise, wasting the potential for a hybrid liquid/solid frame terminator, the first female terminator, and the acting talents of Kristina Loken.

Borgias - Both the series with Jeremy Irons as Rodrigo Borgia, as well as the one with John Doman as Rodrigo. Both series are beyond excellent, with the Irons version focusing on strategy and international events, while the Doman one focusing more on the insane intrigue the Borgias created.

Teen Wolf - After a comment, I think it was by val, I started watching Teen Wolf. It is quite good for a high school werewolf series. Way better than the Vampire Diaries or Twilight.

During my recent fugue I found the series Graceland about FBI/DEA/etc in the same house doing undercover. Very witty (like Suits and Psyche which are other of my favorite shows in the witty banter vein). First season was great, second season got a bit cheesy and made you hate the main characters. So watch one season and let it go, second season won't give you the answers you might want. First season ending was pretty good all said.

Caught up with Walking Dead. Interested in how this new community will try and kill them.

Watched HBOs Carnivale. You have to realize, the last week I was in a feverish haze for most the time. Balancing sweat and delirium. I think Carnivale was probably the best show I could ever choose to watch in this state. What a messed up experience that was. Often I would fall asleep during episodes and have twisted carnival dreams. The supernatural fight of good and evil spread into my subconscious. It was an intense experience and, while more seasons would be good, I am actually satisfied with the way it ended. So not sure how it would be sober and awake, but on the edge of consciousnesses, it was great.

Watched Pitch Perfect 2 today with the family. Brought my study materials in as I expected it to be crap. That s**t was HILARIOUS. I haven't laughed that hard in a long time. Maybe mood or timing, I don't care. I couldn't stop laughing. Best comedy I have seen in quite awhile!!

Also been on the SAMCRO kick lately. In the early mornings when I get up at 0300 and maybe an episode in the evening before I go to bed. I like it. Now trying to decide if I am going to start a Fight Club or a Motorcycle Club. Such decisions!

Caught up with Walking Dead. Interested in how this new community will try and kill them.

According to sources like The Nerdist, the walkers are supposed to be the main threat in the coming season, more so than human antagonists in the previous seasons. We have seen the walker mega-herd several times, and bets are on that massive throng migrating towards/through Alexandria. I have a friend who is buddies with Greg Nicotero and he sent me a spoiler, so I know that a major cast member (and who, I've seen the fake head prosthetic) is going to die, and this is likely an indicator of who's going to be the Big Bad in season 7.

Excited about this.

Fear the Walking Dead

I'm watching it, but it isn't hooking me like TWD did. It's slower starting, the cast is more diverse, and rather than survivors caught in the zombie apocalypse, this is a group of people that I rather dislike, and imagine very few making it through the first season. With Junkie, Perfect Sister, Power Mom, Ethnic Dad, and Stone Throwing Son I don't care about any of them. Add in the Paranoid Kid doing the truffle shuffle and I'm rooting for the zombies. They are also playing the government conspiracy angle, and the basic distrust of the government that is common now, but they are softballing it. It's all vague and fuzzy, rather than a serious and hard look at a government in the know willingly deceiving the populace.

Zombie Gloria was an epic zombie. Kudos on her design.

Referring to a church as a 'Shooting Gallery' for junkies was also perfect. I followed up with Our Lady of the Syringe.

We'll see where it goes.

As a person who found TWD too slow moving and repetitive, I have dodged later season and the new spin-off.

What I have watched is:

Strike Back, season 4. Once again we are back with the protagonists from the last seasons, and this time head to Southeast and East Asia. The show remains the most supreme action show there is, with each episode putting luminaries such as Steven Seagall and Jean Claude van Damme to shame. It is action perfection, and the wet dream of any Call of Duty gamer.

Dominion, season 2. We follow Alex, the Chosen One, through his trials in the war between Angels and Humans. This post-angel-apocalyptic show is weird, but also oddly fun to watch. What it lacks in production quality, it makes up for in share power of imagination from the writers.

Ray Donovan, season 3. Man, I just love Ray Donovan. Liev Schrieber performing the role of a lifetime. Watch it, love it.

Fullmetal Alchemist.

Working my way through the first season on Netflix. Surprisingly good.  Really a Supers set in an alternate 1930ish timeframe with magic.  The individual alchemists would be quite at home in most super-hero groups.  The main characters are a massive soul-bound suit of armor and a magic-cyborg kid with an artificial arm and leg.  He seems to be an earth oriented alchemist.

Has the usual anime bits with the cartoony faces from time to time when the situation is not serious, but its as dark as any of the more serious anime I've seen.

I like how the magic has a cost, a very dire one for higher power levels.

Good stuff so far.  There are some quite interesting villains. I like gluttony, for one.

I love FMA, and there is a second series called FMA: Brotherhood, and as far as a I know, it's considered the better of the two series by most fans. I love how the writers created their world, how it looped back into itself over and over, and the laws of alchemy, Ed reciting the Law of Equivalent Exchange, and the motivations of the Elric brothers compared to the actions of the world behind them.

Bones.

My girlfriend asked me to try it out, since she thought I'd like it, and she was right. It centers around Dr. Temperance Brennan, a forensic anthropologist working with the FBI to solve murder cases where the only evidence is from the bones of the victim.

It's got some of the same patterns as other police shows, but it has good suspense and each episode is quite engaging. I'd watch this over any of the Law & Orders or NCISs, any day of the week.

Up to season 3 in Full Metal Alchemist. Still very impressed, and some seriously bad ass enemies.

Movies out now edition...

The Martian.

Great! Kids loved it too. Matt Damon spends the movie monolog-ing, which would normally annoy me, but works well in this case, because he's making a recording of his lonely existence. Interesting sciency-spacy stuff too! Basically Castaway on Mars but funnier and a bit more nerve-wracking.

Green Inferno.

Yes. I saw it. What I liked best is the way Roth makes fun of (and humiliates) young, eager SJWs who want to save the world. The cannibalism angle was naturally gruesome. But somehow fun :P

Black Mass.

Normally love movies like this, but meh. Same old same old. Could have been about any gangster anytime anywhere. Depp looks creepy, but meh.

Frankenstein Chronicles

A new take on Frankie, set in 1827 London.

Positives: Sean Bean.
Negatives: Bit of a slow-burn series but can't think of any negatives other than that so far.

Corpses constructed out of sewn-together body parts wash up along the Thames. Sean Bean investigates. Only two episodes in, we meet John Marlott (Bean), Mary Shelley, and even a creepy William Blake (!) on his deathbed, deliriously spouting esoteric mumbo jumbo about beasts and men. We also attend a gathering of "Anatomists" electrocuting dead bodies, and learn about the lucrative Graverobbers racket.

Will keep watching.

Legends with Sean Bean. Where does he find all the time?

I like spy movies. I like The Bourne Identity books and movies. So this is right up my lane.

The end of the first season got really good with the new information that came out and it had me hooked. Watched what was available of the 2nd season and I really like where it is going. A person that has so many identities that he doesn't know what is real or what is not. His search for the truth of who he is, basically, is a fun romp.

The Last Man on Earth.
Gets a little old in parts but, all said, love it. Lots of pretty d**n funny parts that, even when you get annoyed with it, you can't help but laugh.

The Bastard Executioner
Meh. May watch it just to see what happens I guess.

The Musketeers
BBC at its finest. Reminds me a bit of Xena and Hercules....but much better. Continuing storyline amongst stand alone episodes. I really enjoy this one!

Black Sails
The Pirate GoT. It is Pirates, it is awesome.

Those are the last few months. Since I got sick and sleep away my life, I have been trying these and watching the same episode over and over as I fall asleep during them.
