Got me to thinking ... I haven't invented a new die lately ... and especially not a new shape ... so I got to thinking ... how many different outcomes can 2d6 produce ... 36

Hmmm ... there isnt a D36 ... so I need to make one ... and ... viola !

The die is numbered 1-36 ( I can't think of any other use for a D36 ... can you? ) as well as being pipped with the 36 different possible rolls of 2 d6

Now .. I just need to get all the casino's world wide to give up their foolish attachment to pairs of dice ... when there is one die that can do it all !

Cool .. let your voice be heard by signing the petition for Chessex ... so they can get a scope of the number of people who would like to own these dice <<CLICK HERE>>

The problem is ... Chessex is quite reasonalbly charging $77 a set for these as they only charge $1 per custom face ... they custom carve each of the 70 faces ... and charge $7 for USPS Priority shipping

If enough people sign the petition ... it may show Chessex that there is sufficient demand to make a mold for these dice ... then the cost would likely drop dramatically

Do I have something for you to look at. I was just checking this month's Wired (Jan 2009) and on page 62 I see something every hardcore gamer would want.

D20 Ottomon by Designer Jeroen Hammer. It is made of 20 triangular pieces of blue plexi with numbers and interior connection.

I've seen the Dwarven Stone metal dice: steel, brass, and copper. But I haven't seen any other metals. Presumably because they are too expensive to be implemented. Well, there are other reasons I guess (I imagine lead dice would be pretty dangerous).

But what about silver or gold? Do they exist? I've found 18K gold 6 siders, and they go for about $5K a piece.

Obviously the thing that seems to prohibit the manufacture of solid gold dice is no market. Big difference between a $40 steel d20 and a $5000 gold d20.

But with the extra old gold jewelry I've collected over the years, It wouldn't be hard for me to create molds, melt, and create gold dice (having a father in law who is a jeweler helps).

But then that brings up another question. Would gold dice be too soft to use?

*Edit* Ah, where it appears I've answered part of my own question. Here are some gold plated dice, but no solid gold. I wonder if that's because of the cost and softness of gold?

I'm sure the novelty of solid gold dice would wear off soon after you made them. And of course, you'd never break them out except for those really important game-breaking rolls.

But, you'd be able to say, "Yeah, I made my own dice. No, not those ones, these ones."

The Dwarven Metals are / were available in Gold plated Sterling Silver ... Sterling Silver ... Brass ... Copper and Steel ... With brushed or bright finishes

I also suspect that precious metal dice would be cost prohibitive ...

I think $5000 for a d20 is far too much .. unless it is huge

10K ... should be fine ... 24K ... would round over really easily
