Ilkah the stablehand
« Reply #25 on: March 23, 2005, 08:35:06 PM »
Summary
Old and resentful. Still a stablehand despite being in his 50s.

Description
Human/ Male/ 50s

Ilkah is old and sweaty, often reeking of alcohol. His eyes are bleary and his breath is foul. He is well fit though and strong as an oxen, something he is proud of. As a result he is a bit of a bully, except on the job, which he really needs to keep. He might have looked good once, but is neglecting his appearance; he is obviously not sleeping much and does not bother combing his thinning hair.

Story
His life has been largely the same. A new job every other month after having lost the old one due to his rebellious nature, bully-ish behaviour and alcohol consumption. He is genuinely trying to behave this time and has actually had the job for over a year. At home is a tired wife, disillusioned and disappointed with her lot in life, something Ilkah gets to hear all the time. Even though he is a brute, he never touches his wife which he love above anything else. She won't have anything to do with him when he is drunk. He is good with horses.

Roleplay Notes
Easy to anger and not too bright. Ilkah has that awful breath and bodily odour that makes other people want to get away as soon as possible. He will get furious over the slightest thing, but will curb his anger. (Which can still be seen, poorly hid as it is.)

Benseth
« Reply #26 on: March 23, 2005, 08:52:32 PM »
Summary
A soldier. Not a recruit, not a veteran.

Description
Human/ Male/ 20s

Benseth is an average looking man that takes care of his appearance. His moustache is thin (think Errol Flynn), his brown hair is well kept. He obviously cares about how he looks (even in the field). He is of average build and slightly muscular.

Story
Benseth is the son of a minor farmer, eager to prove his worth. His eldest brother will inherit the farm, so there is nothing at home for Benseth, save menial labour on the fields.

Roleplay Notes
Benseth is really, really likeable. He is not too bright, and yet not dumb. He is average at almost everything, except that he has a lovely voice and is the squad singer. Whenever the squad needs cheering the sarge gets his instrument while Benseth sings, which is guaranteed to make an evening in the city watch, or in the field, alot more fun.

Think-Too-Slow
« Reply #27 on: March 25, 2005, 10:21:29 PM »
Summary-
Village idiot, slow of mind but helpful and well-meaning

Description-
Human male, late 20s

Bandy-legged, with a curiously "pinched"-looking face and a constant silly smile, Think-Too-Slow is the village idiot. He is not very dextrous, nor very strong, but he does his best to be helpful, within his odd definitions of such. He is dressed by his mother, and generally appears tightly bundled (to protect his fragile body), though late in the day he is often disheveled because he puts no thought into his physical appearance.

Story-
His mother was attacked while she was pregnant by his father, who then abandoned her. When Think-Too-Slow was born, the trauma of the attack had damaged his fragile brain.

Roleplay Notes-
Think-Too-Slow is a very childlike, sweet person, with great curiosity, even about things which he is quite familiar with. He is forgetful, physically fragile, and is mentally impaired, but he attempts, in his own idiom, to be helpful to everyone, even if they do not want to be helped.
His mother is extremely protective of him, and refuses to let him leave the house without many layers of clothing to "protect" him.

Dougilus Magicus
« Reply #28 on: March 27, 2005, 12:35:45 PM »
Summary
Though he like a bit of the drink, he is the proper organizer for the district.

Description
Human/ Male/ 49
He is a short, slight man. Balding. He has deep set eyes that seem to twinkle.  He frequently has a wry little grin, making one think he is keeping a secret.  He likes to wipe his forehead. He is always refering to his little book.

History/ Life/ Explanation
Someone has to do it, so Dougilus does. Dougilus lends small bits of money and works out payment with people. He is the district's matchmaker. So he often suggests people might want to talk with him, if they want to be married. He makes sure the proprieties are observed at all times. Lastly, he is the district bookie... taking bets on almost everything.

He also does a little blackmail on the side, since he is often privy to all those dirty little secrets.  His fees are quite modest and never more than a slight inconvience to the target.

He keeps a little list of options in one of his several black books. (It is either written in code or his handwriting is SOOO bad, it is all indecipherable).

Roleplay Notes
He is a fun sort of guy, jovial most of the time... though that may be the drink.  When he needs to be serious (as when he is negociating a proper matchmaking) he is overly serious... almost comical.

He likes his drink, so you will often find him in the local pub (which he is part owner).

While he scribbles in his book, he actually has a photographic memory. So despite the book... it is all in his head.

He has several hideyholes around the district (one of which is under the local chapel) where he keeps blackmail evidence and some of his cash.

He has lots of friends. So if anyone touches him, he better run far and fast, as the has friends all over the county and they will take out any insult or injury against this man in blood (and the hefty reward he normally offers).

Cheya GreenCloak
« Reply #29 on: April 01, 2005, 05:06:46 PM »
Summary
Somebody got's to do it.

Description
Human/ Female/ 20 something.
She is the classic idea that bards have of a healer. She is young and if she bothered to take care of herself/ clean up, she would be beautiful (right now, she is merely pretty).  She is tall with an athletic build. She has a firm jaw, ice blue eyes, and long wavey blond hair that never quite tucked into that pony tail. Her voice is strong and clear. At festivals she will frequently sing with various players.

In another life she could of been a super model, but here and now she became a dedicated healer.

History/ Life/ Explanation
Cheya is a good healer, knowledgable in herbs, healing touch, and magic.  She is one of several full healers attached to their local center/ temple.

She apprenticed herself to the local healer. Finding out she has the gift, he shipped her off to the academy where her gifts were cultivated. One of the top students in her class, she asked to be assigned (here) because it seems like the best spot for her.

Roleplay Notes
When she is healing, she is all business. She is professional, caring, and focused.

When off duty, she is rowdy, friendly, and a lot of fun.  Like many healers she tends to drink too much when off duty. (SHe is fun at first, but morose later).

She is really not romantically interested in anyone. Don't even try. Someone who is not trying to woo her, who works side by side with her in some crisis might be suitable.

Gideon
« Reply #30 on: April 12, 2005, 12:01:28 PM »
Summary
A family member from the big city. Haughty and dishonest. Could be used as a hook for adventure.

Description
Human/ Male/ 20s

Gideon is flamboyant, loud and brash. He is extremely good looking and wears only the latest fashion from the big city. He has dark hair which has been cut short and styled with immaculate care, he is closely shaven and has intense brown eyes.

Story
He is the half-brother, or distant cousin, of a PC. The PC has not met Gideon since childhood and really have no idea on how he is doing.

Gideon himself has fallen in with a bad crowd. He is a con artist and a drug dealer. He is closely connected with the underworld in the big city and has friends among the shadowy crime lords. He is is unwanted by his mother, who is too embarrassed to tell the family about him.

Roleplay Notes
Gideon is plain and simple high on himself. When he meets the PC for the first time he will say "Hi it is I, Gideon, your <family member> from the city". Then he will look at the PC and begin smirking. If asked why, he will say it is because <there is something wrong> with the PC (Haircut is awfully out of fashion, the clothes are all wrong, he is too muscled, too fat, has a too high forehead, too low, too tall and skinny, etc...) Nothing is good enough for Gideon and soon he will whisper how everything in this "dirty, godsforsaken backwaters" is out of date and hopelessly backwards. Of course, it is all because Gideon needs to pull others down to feel good about himself.

After a while of this behaviour he will begin bragging about his influence in the big city. it will slowly become clear that his tales are loud and exaggerated. In the end he will suddenly leave, bringing along the PC's possessions like valuable weapons, gold, paintings and ... everything that he can bring along in his small cart.

If the PC, and other PCs' that stored valuables within reach of Gideon, want to see their valuables again, they must enter the big city and search for Gideon in Gideon's element; among the thieves and thugs.

Ardoscia
« Reply #31 on: April 12, 2005, 12:24:03 PM »
Summary
An old, kind apothecary. She is sweet as honey and genuine too.

Description
Human/ Female/ 60s

Ardoscia is a retired herbalist that loves her small garden. She often wears flowery baggy dresses and a wide straw hat. Her hair is grey and the wrinkles are plentiful, but she always has that radiant smile that makes everyone adore her.

Story
Ardoscia has had a good and long life. She is satisfied and friendly, often supplying her neighbours with tasty Sugarleaves or the headache removing Tenderstraw. She is the daughter of the ancient Sage known as Cassio the Wise and helps her father out now that he has become old and fragile. Cassio can always be found in the comfortable chair on Ardoscia's porch, sleeping soundly or mumbling to himself.

Roleplay Notes
Ardoscia can be used when the PCs' need herbs. Most of her garden is dedicated to normal, everyday herbs, but she keeps a couple of special herbs as potted plants within the house. If anyone would be so despicable as to rob her, they will discover that the old woman is well loved, and her friends are plentiful and well armed.

-She smells like sweet flowers all the time. She use some flowers to concoct a special perfume.
-Her voice is mild and her laughter is always present. A warm, loving and gentle laughter, making you want to hear her laugh more often.
-The kids in the neighbourhood often knock on her door, asking to do favours for her. In return the kids get candy made of orange and lemon juice, rose flower water, caster sugar, cornstarch and other delicious ingredients.

Beerhall crowd
« Reply #32 on: May 04, 2005, 10:52:46 AM »
Summary
They are farmers and other general workers from the area. The Beerhall is where they come to blow off steam and spend a few pennies before going home to sleep (and family if any).

Description
Humans/ Male/ 20somthing to 40 somthing
They are somewhat dirty, somewhat smelly, having just cleaned up a touch and came straight from work.  Now they are downing the local cheap beer and singing songs and throwing darts.

These are laborers, so they are fairly strong, fairly tough, and not the sharpest tools in the shed. Add to that a few pints of beer, and they become a mob. They don't have their impliments with them, just their aprons.

History/ Life/ Explanation
They work hard and have really short and uneventful lives.  However, once the night has gotten started, they basically become a single entity, a mob.  If someone could motivate them (which is fairly hard, since they are mostly a good bunch), they can unleash a horde of chaos... generating hangings, beatings, barn raisings (while drunk... so think about it), hunting of monsters, levy repair (while drunk, but they sober up quick enough), and riots (which is mostly just them chanting things and stumbling about drunkenly).

Roleplay Notes
There may be indvidual personalities, but basically they all fall into the same mold.

Grisus
« Reply #33 on: May 13, 2005, 08:51:02 AM »
Summary
Though he is always in the background, the assistant magistrate's mind is always in the forefront

Description
Human?/ Male/Middle Aged
He is of average build and height. His clothes are passible for his station, but you can tell he is not paying much attention to them. His hair and beard are kept very short and very neat.  His eyes are the only distinctive feature. With an overhanging brow, he seems to be perpetually squinting. His bright green eyes still shine even though they are practically veiled.

History/ Life/ Explanation
The Magistrate has something of a repuation for Solomonic wisdom and the determining of past events.  While the magistrate is not a stupid man by any stretch of the imagination, his reputation stems from his assistant rather than his innate abilities.

Grisus was raised in a scholarly monestary after his mother passed. This clerical environment was unique as it actually studied scholarly material and magics, rather than simply focusing on faith and prayer. Upon achieving his majority, Grisus took the civil servant tests to become a magistrate. Grisus passed all the tests to be a magistrate with high marks, yet did not become one because of his lack of connections AND his apparent desire not to play courtly/ political games. So he was attatched to the Magistrate.

That was twenty years ago. In that time, he has used his keen eyes, his strong logic skills, and some alchemical abilities to assist the magistrate in determining the truth of the situations they have investigated. Together they have resolved the truth of many criminal and civil situations, and from that truth they have applied the law.

Roleplay Notes
He is a fairly quiet man, always looking about and examining things. He seems distracted.  He is always assembling evidence in him mind which will tell him what is going on around him and what has happened in the recent past. He is not shy, just quiet. He often asks people questions, which sometimes seem out of context or distracting.

He prefers things to people, as people are known to lie to serve their own ends (or that of their liege).

He has a pet ferret which is often hiding in his cloak.

Jessius
« Reply #34 on: May 27, 2005, 11:20:25 AM »
Summary
A charismatic young man. A local community leader.

Description
Human/ Male/ 20

Jessius is a very good looking young man, with strong features, gentle brown eyes, fair skin, brown hair. His voice is musical and strong. He is athletic in build. He is generally appealing in look and action.

History/ Life/ Explanation
Jessius's life is just like everyone else's in the area.  His parents did the same work as everyone else (farming, mining, what ever is appropriate for the region). Jessius is one of many young men in the area. However, he is their defacto leader. He was always the "captain" for every team. He was the one people asked advice from. He was the one who was in charge of the games. In fact, Jessius has such a charismatic presence that he is the "social leader" for people much older and much younger than himself.  Someday he will be a "village elder", soon he will be the area's "head man". Right now, he is just the guy people turn to to make decisions.

He has a "side kick". Jefficus has been his best friend since they were toddlers. Jefficus has been helping Jessius "run things" since they were small. If you have an issue, you find Jefficus to get Jessius.

Recently, he confessed his true feelings to a local girl called Amya. Amya's miller family moved to the area when the old miller died about eight years back. Nobody except Jessius really liked her, since she was different.

Roleplay Notes
Generally happy and well adjusted.

He is somewhat careful. He knows he has a responsibility to the people who look up to him.

He is insanely loyal to Jefficus.

He is head over heels in love with Amya.

Amya
« Reply #35 on: May 27, 2005, 11:45:20 AM »
Summary
That girl. Jessius's girl.

Description
Human/ Female/ 19
Amya is different than most of the people around here. Her hair is long, wavy, a light amber color with sun kissed highlights. Her eyes are large and dark, dark brown. Her skin is almost too fair, so she is always wearing a huge hat. She has the same hooked nose that her family has, though on her it looks cute rather than hawklike.

History/ Life/ Explanation
Her family came this was as refugees. They were running away from the great troubles in their homeland.  The Miller here took them in, given that her father was a miller. Her father took over when the Old Man died.

The locals, like most small town people, who like knowing "whos people" a given person is, did not like the New Miller, his strange accent and ways.
The local girls had taken to teasing Amya for her odd accent, strange name, and odd (for the local area) words. Even Jessius befriending her, and occasionally defending her and her brother from the taunts and torments of others, only blunted what other children did to her. (The local good looking girl found her a threat to her own power and her own designs on Jessius, so she used her popularity as a weapon against her).

Still life went on. Things got a little better. Childish things went away. The snubs and issues fell mostly to the wayside as life continued. She was still isolated from most of her peers because she was different, but they somewhat accepted her over time.

Then the impossible happened. Jessius said, he loved her. Those three words washed away years of bitterness and loneliness.

Roleplay Notes
Its pronounced Ah mai ya, not the correct pronuciation amy-ah. She is constantly correcting people around here (most of which are doing it on purpose).

She is defensive. Most people do not like her and her "outsider" family.

She will be guardedly friendly towards any strangers. If the locals show dislike towards you (and you are not OBVIOUSLY EVIL or DANGEROUS), she will treat you like a close friend.

She loves Jessius more than life itself. She even thinks Jefficus is funny and likes him like a brother.

Jefficus
« Reply #36 on: May 27, 2005, 12:31:29 PM »
Summary
Jefficus? Oh yes, Jessius's friend

Description
Human/ Male/ 20

Jefficus is like a scaled back version of Jessius. He is merely a good looking young man, with good features, brown eyes, fair skin, brown hair. He is athletic in build. He is often acting goofy.

History/ Life/ Explanation
His and Jessius's father are friends. The two of them have been playmates and friends since they were small. As Jessius was the popular one, some of that popularity has rubbed off. If Jessius is not around, Jefficus becomes the leader. Unlike Jessius, Jefficus only has the role of "leader" for those in his age range. He does not speak for the older young men or kids.

Roleplay Notes
He is often clownish. He keeps things light. This contrasts with the seriousness that Jessius projects.

He loves Jessius. They are best friends. He does not mind be his sidekick and always in his shadow. It is a big shadow to fill.

He secretly loves Amya. He had tried to court her a while back, but she was not that interested (or did not undersand his intent). Now that she and Jessius are together, it gnaws at him.

This scaled down version of Camelot with less music can only lead to trouble eventually.

Summary
"Who trusts a thin inkeeper?"

Description
(Include Race/ Gender/ Approximate Age)
Human/ Male/ 40ish
He is a large man, and round too. He says he carries a few extra servers and cooks with him, "just in case". His skin is ruddy, mostly red from the exertion of moving all this extra weight. His head is smooth and bald, but he has huge mutton chop sideburns. Oh, the man's hands are HUGE in comparison to the expected.

History/ Life/ Explanation
He inherited the kitchen from his mother. He eventually inherited the Inn from the previous owner who had treated him like a son. For the last twenty years he the inn staff has been something of a family to him.

Roleplay Notes
Jovial, Friendly, Humerous. He is also organized and patient. In short, the perfect inn keeper.

"Maggie"

Summary:
Matronly owner of the local tavern.

Description:
50's, human, female, rotund.

History:
She's been around the block, and she's seen it all.  She's had her share of kids, and she raised them all proper and right.  She's been the owner of the local tavern for as long as anyone can remember, and she makes the tavern her own whenever she's in it.  She commands the respect of the regulars as though she were their own mother, and the regulars include commoners and nobles alike.  She has transcended her middle class status by sheer likeability and force of personality.  People in her bar know they will be treated like family, and they provide her the same respect.

Roleplaying:
Imagine the stern but loving mother, and you've got this one down.  She commands immediate respect from the regulars, and the regulars enjoy that her bar is relatively free from conflict.  To this end, she has no problem stepping into the middle of a developing fight and making her "kids" play nice, despite the fact that she is little more than a commoner.  Attention grabbing face slaps are not uncommon for the rabblerouser to recieve from her, and her audacity is backed by almost everyone at the bar, if anyone feels offended enough to try to do something about it.  She means well, and these tactics worked on her kids, and they seem to work on the patrons as well, who seem to appreciate the mothering that they get in the bar.  Once the "punishment" is doled out, she bears no grudges, and holds no ill will, as long as the offending person apologizes for their behavior.  The reason she can get away with this activity?  She's consistent in her treatment of the ill-behaved, and the people who prefer to enjoy their mead and ale in an atmosphere of joviality and tolerance will back her every time.

Personal Note:  "Maggie" made quite an impression on the party the first time I introduced her.  They happened to be in the bar with a group of ne'erdowells, and something was about to start.  Maggie flies in and slaps the biggest fighter in the party and the person he was squaring off with, and everyone in the bar basically stood shoulder to shoulder behind her, despite the fact that two obviously experienced fighters were about to duke it out.  It really put a kibosh on the whole thing, allowing for "another time, highlander" type of interaction between the two fighters.

Summary
Many who see him think he is a powerful, scary, and undead. Two out of three are correct.

Description
Human(we think), male, 62 years:

He is a gaunt and thin man of moderate height. While quite thin, he has ripcord muscles providing him great strength and speed. He is quite pale, with sunken cheeks and eyes. (He does avoid the sun, so he has a parasol when forced to go outside). His eyes are vibrant blue which sets off his nearly white skin. He has pattern baldness, empty on top, long white hair along the sides and in back. His smile seems carniverous.

His clothes are expensive, but dated. They are dark and velvet, they scream GOTH. However, we are a few centuries before that.

History/ Life/ Explanation
He is a minor noble with nothing of lands or money. He came to his current senechal (or factor, or guy in charge) position quite by accident. He was down on his luck at the right time at this place. He utilizes his keen intellect, commanding presence, and understanding about "how things work", to keep the operation running.

Note: He is quite skilled at military arms, though it has been a decade or so since he actively practiced it. He is pretty dangerous for a man his age.

Roleplay Notes
He is aware that his presence unnerves people. He will not do anything to diminish people's discomfort around him. In fact, he seems to work on his "scary" image. He will utilize this unnerving to get people to do what he wants.

"Please young lady, I will not bite you. Now go and ......"

He is unfailingly polite. His threats are more by tone of voice and veiled references, than simple barbaric descriptions.

"Once you get used to him, he is quite a nice man." ... "However, he is hard to get to know."

Biran

Summary:
He's a strange foreigner who doesn't act like us... Suspicious.

Description:
Tall, pale, late 40s, with a heavy growth of stubble which never seems to develop into a beard

Biran is a foreigner who moved to town a couple years back. He is from a strange, far-away culture which has many different and odd customs, and he speaks the language poorly. Thus, he keeps to himself a lot, and in turn, the townsfolk shun him, and are very suspicious of him, even though he has been living among them innocuously for years.

Biran is actually a very nice, rather boring man who has a great deal of anxiety, due to the fact that he fled his homeland after offending the Great Autarch. He is very lonely, and feels he cannot relate to the foreigners he lives among; it does not help that his token attempts at extending the olive branch are rebuffed.

Biran secretly has a stashed fortune buried under his house. This was all the money left of his grand treasury after the Great Autarch's soldiers burned his manor.

Alert! This thread is closing. Alert! This thread is closing. Please head towards the lifepods in an orderly fashion. This is not a drill.

These will be transfered as NPCs minors and extras. If you have an idea for one, go post it up on version 2.0

Can we move this one back to the Catacombs?  I move all of these (that the authors wanted moved anyways) to the Citadel.  I left it in the Catacombs because I thought the the things people did not want to move (or didn't want to move themselves) wouold be useful.

These are good submissions. However, since people do not recognize the "Extras" rating and vote on them as major or minor characters, nobody wanted to put them on the main page.

The longer ones are already posted, I think. If we get Stubs, the shorter ones will be simply to unload without complaints.

Hey, I got 7 votes with 4.92 average on one of those extra cast guys. I don't want him back in the forums ;)

I think I will "mine" some of these to make a thread of Tavern/ Inn workers.

Oh and most of the extras we have posted up have been taken apart soooo hard that nobody wants to put up an actual extra. Those that have been put up all got pulled.

Note: the Extra AG put up was really a minor character, not an extra. And kind of worthy of that score.
