The Rest of the Cast - Extras and Minor Characters *
« on: January 26, 2005, 12:01:25 AM »
This is a thread to post NPCs of the Extra and Minor Character level - the rest of the cast for your game.

These are characters that you would not be posting in the current NPC system on the front page. However, they do have a place here.  They are useful to have a stack of just "hanging around" should you need them.  So use um all, we will make more.

By Our definitions:

Extra: These are members of the background that fill the world behind the player characters. They are needed to give versimilitude and life to the game world the players are passing through. Any Extra character would be either a typical character or a nearly typical (just different to stand out slightly) character. The players might have a line or two of dialog with them. If the extra is interesting, there might be more interaction with them, and the extra becomes the springboard for minor subplots in the game.

Extra-Horde: These are groups where a single character sheet and description defines (nearly) every member of the group. This would be for dockside bandits, Ninjas, pitchfork and torch wielding peasants, BlackMoor Barbarians Riders, or some other loose group of near identical people.  Hordes are almost always antagonistic.

Minor Character: These are characters that are of minor importance in this chapter of the character's existance. They are either minor villians (important minions, lieutenants, monsters of some note), minor allies (supporting characters), or Color characters (the local headman, a healer, soothsayer, the troll beneith the bridge) The line between Minor Color Characters and Extras is a little fuzzy. It all depends upon the character's presentation to the players.

Rules of the Thread
1) One character, One post. Do not piles multiple NPCs in the same post unless these characters can not exist without each other.

2) Every character must have the following elements
2a) Name - The title of the post normally
2b) Summary/ Blurb - Just like the big NPCs
2c) Description - Race/ Gender/ Age and quick description
2d) History/ Life/ Explanation -  This is a minor character or extra, do not invest too much time into this.
2e) Roleplay Notes... not always required, but nice to have.
2f) Associated links to threads or items.

3) Keep it brief. Only invest as much work into these characters equal to the amount of impact they will have upon a campaign. So while we complain that most NPC entries are too short and too brief, you should not get that comment here.

4) If you are commenting on a character, then list which character you are commenting on in your title.

Cut And Paste Bellow to cheat on the headers...

Name - Subject Line

Summary

Description
(Include Race/ Gender/ Approximate Age)

History/ Life/ Explanation

Roleplay Notes

Fredius D'Amar
« Reply #1 on: January 26, 2005, 08:53:25 AM »
Description
Human Male Early 40s
His darker skin and large dark mustach always show him as a foreigner. To compound that, he wears Amarian robes despite the colder local climate (Antioch). (To be honest, he wears warmer clothes under them).

History
He is a merchant of fine wines and due to his connections the only provider of sparkling wines in the region.  After working with a caravan company, he moved to Antioch and brought his savy and contacts with him. His shop has made him a good living.

His wife is a beautiful local woman even after children. He has eight daughters and two sons (4 sets of twins) that are equally beautiful with a touch of the exotic. He is arranging good marriages for them, into more prosperous houses. The sons are still deciding who will run the business.

Roleplay Notes
Fredius is a master of social nicety and politeness. He could teach many a noble the art of manners. Despite his formal politeness making him seem distant, he is a friendly man... who sees everyone as his friend, and his enemies as people to be forgiven.

Fredius does have a less public face. He is a man who never forgets a slight and will hold a grudge for decades. He will always get even, never more... never less. He is mostly a man who wishes to socially embarass those who have slighted him, but he might hire a few dock toughs to bring the point home.

Marcus Dominitan
« Reply #2 on: January 26, 2005, 11:03:12 PM »
Minor Colour Character

A small fish in an even smaller pond, Marcus Dominitan is the harbourmaster of the port of Al'Alaric.  A petty man with a big ego and greed to match, he is not above taking bribes to allow unlawful cargo, or to hire thugs to assault those he dislikes.

Description:
His thick black hair is peppered with early grey, and his face is begining to age into permanent frown lines.  His piercing grey eyes betray his Gothic parentage, and his dark skin are inherited from his Bizzannite mother and a lifetime of work in the sun.  Dominitan likes to dress well, preferring stylish and new atire, with his current favourite being a black velvet jacket lined with silver.  He keeps his jewelry modest, and rarely caries any weapon or much cash.

History:
Marcus Dominitan began his early years as a common dock worker.  His dislike of physical labour coupled well with his innate talent for playing people off against one another.  This would have led him eventually to a foreman position, or less-reputably to a gang leader.  However, the old harbourmaster was retiring, and Dominitan had a plan.  He had rivals at each others' throats even more than ever, with a few well-placed rumours & a few select fights started, and capitolised on his Gothic ancestry by impying that he was somehow connected to the Darklings.  This allowed him to gather enough support to overcome his rivals for the position--who were focused more upon each other--and solidified it by hiring thugs to threaten attack any who would not support him during the elections.

Roleplaying notes:
Dominitan will be a potential problem for some groups, and an easy bribe for others.  Marcus alternates between complete silence, and loud interrupting--he can be a real jerk if he's not getting his way. However, he does run the docks efficiently, and can be rather demure if things go smoothly.  Shift your eyes back & forth when playing him, and be prepared to switch from polite to boorish if the players aren't giving you your proper respect.  Dominitan isn't ambitious, but he is greedy & has a quite preenable ego, but will instantly dislike someone he thinks is making fun of him with false praise. Remember also that there are a number of unproductive sorts loafing about who are more than willing to do your dirty work and inflict violence upon someone for a few coins--don't hesitate to use them.

Crunk
« Reply #3 on: January 27, 2005, 12:56:34 AM »
Horde

Crunk is a typical sailor aboard the privateer Blue Raider.  The ship sails from Formour, but like most of its crew, Crunk is from Osterre.  As a Half-Orck, Crunk always has something to prove, and a chip on his shoulder large enough to throw his posture off.

Description:
Crunk is short and stocky, with short-cropped hair.  He's physically unappealing, with numerous scars and a face pocked from a childhood illness.  Crunk preferrs sleeveless shirts, and short pants, and usually goes barefoot especially when aboard ship.

History:
Until signing on the Blue Raider, Crunk has never felt wanted.  He's never met his Ogre father, and his Orckish mother never had time for the youngest of her seven children.  As a Half-Orck, and a Runt as well, Crunk never fit in well with his clan's society.  Desiring to get away and find his place in the world, Crunk became a crewman onboard a pirate ship working for the Scourge.  However, he was still the lowest rung on the ladder, abeit a ladder with a higher chance for fatality.  With the death of that leader, and the invasion of the Orckish Highlands, Crunk was now out of the only job he knew, and stranded in distant Byzant, with no home, no income, and he didn't even speak the language.  Fate finally smiled on this miscreant, and he finally found work aboard the Blue Raider, captained by a Human woman who would take anyone willing to work hard and earn their place on the crew. With such a merit-based setup, Crunk was able to overcome his cultural limitations, and become an effective privateer and respected member of the crew.

Roleplaying notes:
Crunk is an obnoxious little Runt, and still very conscious of his Half-Orck status.  When he's placed in charge of a detail, he becomes very brash. loud, and demanding. Crunk is a hard worker, and never questions an order... mumbles obsenities under his breath when he thinks no one can hear him, but never directly questions or refuses.  When he is angry or frustrated, Crunk's voice rapidly rises from his normal almost-whispering growl to a high pitched whining tone.  Due to a lifetime of being at the bottom of every pecking order, Crunk still flinches alot, but has not yet backed down from a fight--and won't as he still has to perpetually prove his courage to himself.

Sharry
« Reply #4 on: January 27, 2005, 01:19:56 AM »
Extra

Sharry is a typical Formourian street urchin.  Her name is a corruption of her given name, Michele of Ryanhold (where she's from).  She gets by on scrounging for scraps, begging, and the occassional opportunistic theft.

Description:
Sharry has curly sandy-brown unkempt hair.  Her face is round and seemingly always smudged with some sort of dirt or grease.  Her prepubescent frame sticks out of her now undersized blue dress--blue only in memory, now more of a greyish colour like an evening sky.  She's thin, but still retains some baby-fat.  She is just cute enough of a kid to avoid punishment for some of her antics, but never anything major.  Sharry hasn't ever worn shoes, and thinks that they are "stupid and ugly."

History:
Sharry is a runaway.  She tells everyone that she's an orphan, but the truth is that her parents are still very much concerned about her, even though they have all but given up hope on her still being alive years ago.  Sharry believes that she was escaping an abusive father, but again, the truth differs somewhat from the reality. Sharry was a difficult child, forever causing some sort of trouble.  Until she ran away, her childhood was much like that of other Formourian peasant children, and she was no more cruelly treated than what would be typical punishment for her transgressions--in many households, a spanking for throwing the cat into the boiling stew is getting off light. She snuck inside a haystack of a wagon bound for market in a nearby town, and from there stowed away on another wagon bound for her current home of Argent.

Roleplaying notes:
It's amazing how someone living on the streets--and coming from such humble roots--can be so spoiled. Sharry is quiet and timid, but something of a bully to children much smaller than her.  When there's something she wants, she's not afraid to demand it, which gets her into trouble with local shopkeeps who catch her stealing. She then promptly demands that they give her whatever she was trying to steal, and makes her getaway while they stand there perplexed over such boldness.  Sharry has a habit of twirling her hair on her finger, which only adds to the wild curls. She has some skills as a pickpocket, but rarely uses them, or other theivery, as she is afraid of being caught.  When she feels it will benefit her, Sharry tries the cute act, and if that doesn't work, she tries to play upon the heartstrings with her sad (fictional) life's story.  Her best weapon, is her ability to cry on command:  rivers of tears streaming down her dirty face, trembling lip, short sobbing breaths, quivering & pleading voice, the works.

Chae Il Seung
« Reply #5 on: January 27, 2005, 02:02:23 AM »
Extra-Horde

Chae lives to serve, and ultimately die in that service, if need be.  As a Bushi-Killian warrior in the service to Lord Kim, he focuses upon his given missions & tries very hard to stay part of the crowd. When on assignment, Chae is a relentless, dedicated, slayer of men.

Description:
Chae is physically imposing, not only due to his strong arms broad shoulders, nor to his blades, but more to his confident stride, standing fully upright, and he never deviates his eyes from the path ahead--both litterally and figuratively.  Chae prefers to go unarmoured, counting on his skills to keep him safe.  Chae is a practitioner of the Quad-cut Style, and is never without his swords.  He wears a simple short red robe, without trim.  Chae refuses to follow the current trends among some Killian for peircings, or to hang baubles from their head frills.  He wears no jewelry, and carries money only when he desires to purchase something.

History:
As one of only three viable hatchings, Chae was much beloved--some might even say spoiled--by his parents.  He was given the best that they could afford, and taught the arts of war from an early age, in hopes that he might someday be a great warrior like his great-grandmother.  Chae considers himself fortunate that he serves a master who is unyeilding and decisive, and who makes quick decisions.  He has been serving under Lord Kim for 10 years, and has no greater ambition than to continue to serve as a soldier/marine under her.

Roleplaying notes:
Do, don't think.  Worrying is for those who can afford such luxuries. Instead, act out on your first impulse, and do so decisively. Always see things through to the end, even if (or especially if) it means your own death. Chae is very proud of his family, although he does not talk about them much. While his warriors' code teaches that he must consider his lord's honour above his family's, disrespect to his family or their honour is met with aggression.  Chae is taciturn, and speaks only the minimum.  If this means short, choppy sentences, or even one or two word answers, so be it.

Theodoronus "Theo" messenger
« Reply #6 on: January 27, 2005, 11:13:50 AM »
Blurb
Faster than the wind, this Red Cap Messenger flies (okay, okay, runs - but you get the idea).

Description.
Theo is a tall thin young man who looks like he will blow way in the wind. Yet he is as strong as the wind and nearly as fast. His dark curly hair, escaping from under his cap, flies behind him while he runs through the town. His heavy booted feet clomping like a horses hooves. His backpack is almost always full, looking like it will spill contents at any moment.

History
Theo is the best Red Cap in the city. All the really important messeges go to this reliable runner who knows the city streets (and its alleys and rooftops) like the back of his hand. He handles all Governor and GuildMaster messages.

Roleplay:
He is extremely friendly. Everyone Knows him. They wave as he runs by, he waves back.

He is athletic and good looking, so all the young girls sigh as he goes by. He likes to flirt with the ladies (old, young, pretty, plain), but it is all in fun as he is "promised" to someone else.

An old lady is often chasing him out of her "courtyard" as he has vaulted a few walls as a short cut.

He asked to be assigned  to this foreign city in a foreign land (He is from Excellius on SecondLand) to keep himself and his lover safe. His love is a young Noble Clanswoman whos father does not approve of their match.

Statlerus and Waldorus
« Reply #7 on: January 27, 2005, 11:58:02 AM »
Two old pentioners watching the world go by and commenting on it.

Description
Both are old decrepit human males. Both are wrinkled, mostly bald, with shocks of white hair on the sides of their head, with large noses. Statlerus is shorter and rounder, Waldorus is taller and longer in all things.

(Think the two hecklers from the Muppet Show)

History
These two guildsmen have been friends since forever, yet they never agree. Unlike most people, they have paid attention to the history of things and all the news since they were born.  Since they have managed to retired (to cranky to die, quips Waldorus) they now take their leisure sitting together in parks or cafes (and later - taverns) talking about the world and current events and what is wrong with everything. Since they are both fairly deaf, these discussions/ arguments are fairly loud and you can't help but overhear the two cranky men discussing what is going on in the city.

Roleplay Notes
Two cranky old men with wry senses of humor - think what would happen if two Mark Twains sat next to each other drinking coffee and smoking. They like to crack jokes, usually at the expense of a political/ guild/ noble figure. They are both cynical, yet if one puts forth a cynical point, the other feels obliged to put out an opposing point. These two are great social commentators of their day. (in fact, a young writer at a nearby table or bench is copying down what they say... to create a history and commentary of sorts of the city).

They are useful to impart bits and pieces of the political and social situation to the characters.  These two rant at each other as the PCs are walking by, and you get an admusing moment and a little piece of info imparted to the players. If asked something about the city or city history, they probably know the answer... and will start a rank about related subjects.

Summer Word Aka Helioglyph
« Reply #8 on: January 27, 2005, 03:20:47 PM »
Blurb
Some time magic users are less magical than one expects.

Description
Human/ Male/ 40ish
Helioglyph is a man of moderate height and build. His eyes are an odd golden green color. His nose is quite large, hooked and hawk like. His hair is blond threaded with a great deal of white. His skin is soft and fair, showing he has not worked hard, except for his hands which are scarred and calloused.

History
Summer Word was a simple young apprentice to a gold/ silver smith when he became interested in magic. It seemed the man next door was a wizard of some minor repute. Summer spent much of his free time with him. Though disappointed that he did not have "The Gift" to any real degree, he still studied the interesting symbols and patterns associated with magic. He incorperated patterns into his works when he became a journeyman. They were unique and well received. Since magic is such a touchy subject, most smiths avoid it. Since He made a wizard's set as his master work, his identity as a magical jeweler was cemented.

He eventually moved into the magic quarter because his clients were either there or expected him to be. Like all "workers of magic" he took on a magename, Helioglyph. Being a non-magical worker of magic, he was able to go places and do things that most magical workers were unable to do.  Thus he has become a "community leader" in the magic quarter.

Captain Marrionus Archerious D'Antioch
« Reply #9 on: January 29, 2005, 02:09:49 PM »
Summary
A natural leader of men, his troops would follow him to the nether realms, because they knew he would bring them back.

Description
Human/ male/ 40ish
He is a large man, tall and well muscled. 6'4" (193cms) and 280 stones/lbs (140kg). He is sun tanned, with dark deep set eyes and the sun has lightened his brown hair. His body is a quilting from all the scaring he has had. He has what has been called an honest face. Not handsom, but ruggedly good looking.

History/ Life/ Explanation
Rather than work in his father's glassworks, he signed for the Militia - the city forces. While not a commissioned officer, he has worked his way up the ranks and has recieved the last few for exceptional duty. He has stopped riots, captured bandits and smugglers, stopped attempts to topple Antioch's council, and riggings of guild elections. If it is something that needs being done, the Militia leader calls Archsoldier Marrious.

He and his immediate troops watch the gate of Antioch.

Roleplay Notes
He is a working officer, he does (almost) everything his men do.

He is honest, plain speaking, and steadfast in his beliefs in honor and duty. His are high standards and he expects his men to strive for them, even while off duty.

Soldier Fredius Wagonsmith/ Militiaman
« Reply #10 on: January 29, 2005, 02:21:00 PM »
Summary
Every troop has a shifty eyed grumbler. This is ours.

Description
Human, Male, 50 something
Of average height and build, his defining features are his huge lantern chin (which is always half shaven) and beady squinty eyes. He is known for "the look", that look of a man who has seen too much death.

History/ Life/ Explanation
Like many young men trying to escape a guildsman life, he took to petty crime. While tough enough, he was not fast enough to escape the militia. Given a choice of joining the Militia or spending most of his life in the Gaol, he joined the militia. He was a born soldier, with a talent for combat and watch work (he finds it ironic that now he is catching the stupid kids who were doing what he was doing before joining up). He has seen some of the worst things possible in Antioch and has survived many of them by being under The Captain. Though his morals and conduct are sometimes suspect, he is the Captains Go-To guy for any dirty job.

Roleplay Notes
"Been there, seen that." and "Can't believe this is happening to me."

Grumbling about something, anything really.

He is cranky, cynical, and bitter. He often rolls his eyes at the Captain's moral high horse, yet he respects the man for his skills and grudgingly his honor.

He, like many men married to the Militia have given up his guild based last name and taken his new guild "Militiaman".

Gregory Merchant
« Reply #11 on: January 29, 2005, 03:17:07 PM »
Extra

Gregory Merchant is an art dealer in Daggersford. He is well-versed in art, history, and art history, but rarely brings these subjects up other than in context of a sale.  His sales technique is very low-pressure, and he is content to let people browse his shop. There are a few small statues available, but the shop focuses on paintings of various sizes, values, and significance. He seems perpetually distracted.  Is it a ruse?

Description:
Gregory is a balding Formourian man in his early 50's.  He wears respectable and stylish clothes, if a bit drab in colour.  Gregory is a patch of grey in a sea of bright and multi-hued paint.  The walls of the one-room shop are completely filled with art, with a few hanging from the ceiling, and lower-valued paintings leaning grouped against the walls on the floor.

History:
His life was remarkable only for its uneventfulness.  As the only child, he inherited the business from his father, and his father before him.  Gregory is a confirmed batchelor, and does not socialise extensively.  Other than a polite "hello" in reply to familiar people in the area, he doesn't seem to have much of a life outside the shop. Uknown to most of the residents of Daggersford, Gregory's early teen years were spent with a rather rowdy bunch of other youths.  Several of them went on to more exciting lives of crime (life at hard-labour for two of them), but Gregory instead would return to his parents and their art shop, where he remains to this day.

Roleplaying notes:
Reply to most statements or questions with "Huh, what?" while looking away, then reply. Do this even when you've been talking to them for several minutes.  If someone shouts, get perturbed for a moment and state thay you hear just fine, then promptly forget the incidence ever occurred.  Don't look directly at someone, unless they are directly talking to you.  If they inquire about the art, look off at the (pantomimed) piece instead and focus on it exclusively.  Rub the side of your head whenever someone asks you a question, or you are remembering a fact about a painting. Gregory isn't stupid, and isn't easily tricked.  He always knows both the fair price, and what the value to the prospective owner is (sometimes much more, sometimes the same).

Fun facts:
* Gregory purchases from local artists only rarely.  He prefers older pieces from established artists.  The older, further away in origin, and more famous the artist, the better. Note that this means that one can sometimes find a painting by someone famous for other than their art--a large oil painting of a post-battle scene by a well-known Bizzannite general (and only an amature painter) hangs over his small desk.
* He is red-green colourblind, something that he never reveals, and even kept hidden from his parents.
* The small desk where he writes up bills-of-sale or other paperwork contains his money in a locked drawer.  There are a few coins in a locked box inside the drawer, and more coins in a hidden bottom under that.  The bulk of Gregory's monetary wealth, is in a false bottom under that. Most of his true wealth is in the paintings, however.
* Some of the paintings are stolen, and purchased from a fence (one of his childhood friends, but one he only sees now for business).  These paintings are never well-known, and are always stolen from distant lands.

Summary
Some people are going to be the "new guy" all their lives.

Description
Human/ Male/ 18

He is a good looking young boy, dark hair, blue eyes, fair skin, who will become a handsom young man. He looks almost 13. He will be blessed or cursed with looking almost a decade younger than he is for the rest of his life.

He has this air about him that he is new and inexperienced (even though he has served for a year or so). His uniform seems cleaner, newer, his gear less worn, you can practically hear the crinkle of the wrapping paper he came out of.

History/ Life/ Explanation
He ran away from his feudal lord in The Villages to Antioch. Having no other skill than farming, he joined the militia.

Roleplay Notes
Key Words: Bright, Eager, Intelligent, Questions things, and always quoting "The Book".

He is a young and inexperienced version of Marrionus Archerious D'Antioch. In twenty years, he will be the hero of Antioch, right now... he is just The Buckwheat... the hayseed farmer who joined the militia.

The Captain has taken him under his wing. As has Fredius, who wants to teach him that all these high ideals will do nothing but get him and his men killed. (Fredius is also abusing him, but in a friendly manner.... to toughen him up... and No ONE is able to abuse him but Fredius)

Summary
A harper is a harper no matter where they are

Description

She is a slender, almost gaunt woman, with exceedingly long finger. Her hair is a mousy brown shot through with grey. Her face has many, many laughlines. She has difficulty walking, so she does so with an unsteady gate and a slow pace.

History/ Life/ Explanation
She has been a harper for her entire life. She has never played for kings, but she has played for nobles. Her instrument is a full sized harp. She has had a problem walking for a while, but it has gotten worse over the last fwe years. One day she was travelling along, and her horse fell off the road, wrecking her cart and killing the horse.  With some assistance of the local farmers, she and her harp were extracted from the ravine.  Since she can't walk out with her harp and will not leave it behind, she has stayed in the village... eking a minor living there.

Thenadore the young
« Reply #14 on: February 08, 2005, 08:09:41 PM »
A minor colour character

A small boy who always laugh and who is considered a child prodigy. He will help elderly ladies, tell polite and remarkably intelligent jokes and sometimes talk in academic terms with adults. But when the other children comes he runs away with them, shouting and giggling, with the profound joy only a child can show!

Description
Human boy age 7, his hair is blonde and his eyes are brown. He always laughs and likes to play pranks (kind ones) on people he love. He doesn't care too much about his outwards appearance, much to his mother's distress. Can usually be found discussing politics with his elderly grandfather (and others), or playing hide and seek with his friends.

History/ Life/ Explanation
Thenadore is the fourth son of the town/village miller. Everyone talks about his mother in a reverent tone; apparently she was the town beauty in former days and her beauty is still recognizable, in spite of greying hair and wrinkles. She dotes on Thenadore, but is worried about him.

Thenadore was born on the night the great archmage Niluran died. The midwife found the dead old man in a ditch by the fields near the house, just as she left after the delivery. Unbeknownst to anyone, the mage watched the birth through the windows of the miller's home, and when Thenadore arrived his soul probed the young newborn for a shelter and a host in the years to come. Curious, the innocent soul of Thenadore accepted, and in the last seven years they have co-existed in a symbiotic and benevolent partnership.

The only two who have an inkling about this is Thenadore's teacher, Marcus the learned, and the boy's mother. Thenadore loves to quote the archmage Niluran when alone with Marcus, who was a former (failed) student of the mage. "Marcus, young whippersnapper, forget your daydreams for a moment and concentrate on the matter at hand" Thenadore will taunt, much to the teacher's distress. As for his mother, she has spotted the young boy at play in his nursery, apparently addressing the empty air in conversation with himself. First he will ask a question just as an innocent and gullible seven year old would have This will be followed by an answer in the worldly wise and weary perspective of a kind old man. His mother is frightened but is unsure about what she should do. She is afraid what the Hexenjaegers (witch hunters) will do if they suspect something is amiss with lovely little Thenadore. Their asylums and exorcism by fire and hot iron are things she dread. Thus she can often be found running about town shouting "Thenadore, Thenadore!" with a shaky, clearly nervous, voice. Thenadore will usually come running and then hug her adoringly.

Roleplay Notes
Play him as an active young boy, running around giggling and shouting. Then later he can be seen in a temperamental debate with the town elders. His voice is thin and he always smiles. He has been known to disappear for short periods of time, and at these moments he can be met in the forest gathering herbs or in the library studying old, dusty tomes.

Note: Soul shifting is extremely rare in my setting so most people won't understand the connection between Niluran and Thenadore

Summary
"Do you want crisps with that?"

Description
Human/ Female/ 20ish
Capri is a classic fire person. Her hair is long, wavy, and a redish brown. Her skin is fair and eyes are green. Long of limb and graceful in most ways, she floats along the ground like a dancer across a stage. She is very easy on the eyes.

History/ Life/ Explanation
Born to an Inn Family. Started working when young. Realized that being nice earned more money. Though efficient and professional, she is always smiling and joking with customers. She prefers being outfront, than trapped in the kitchen.

Roleplay Notes
Efficient, Professional, and when she is on with customers, she is "on stage"- always being helpful, happy, bubbly, and friendly. In the back she is still fairly upbeat, but not as happy and bubbly.  She is also vastly smarter than her bubbly public persona makes her seem.

Jania (Mouse) Housecrafter
« Reply #16 on: February 09, 2005, 05:06:02 PM »
Summary
"   ", she really does not say much.

Description
Human/ Female/ 30ish
Jania is a tiny girl with a nervous nature. Her hair is brown, as are her eyes. She is straight and plain in hair, features, and body. Her nose is long and she does wrinkle it quite frequently. Though she is a woman, she looks much like a young girl.

History/ Life/ Explanation
Her family have always been servants in great houses. After many of the great houses have fallen upon hard time, their servants have fallen on harder ones.  Unable to find a proper position, Jania found work at the Inn. She has been quietly working here every since.

Roleplay Notes
Nervous, Quiet, and attempts to be invisible. Painfully shy. If you suprise her, she really does make a "squeek" like a mouse.

Constable Thomas Mountian
« Reply #17 on: February 09, 2005, 07:57:49 PM »
Name Thomas Mountian

Gender: Male

Age: 25

Religion/God/dess Worshiped:* No paticular God/Goddess at the moment

Race: Human

Occupation: Constable, Valermoore City Guard

Physical Appearance Brown eyes, brown hair.

*Personality: He is normally friendly towards those he meets, willing to help out those who are in trouble, and come to the aid of someone who is being attacked, even when he is off duty. He longs to meet a Human girl of his own age one day and settle down with her. He is unforgiving, however, of liars and criminals (except when the crime committed is so petty that few would even consider it a crime) and speficly joined the City Guard to fight crime rather then for money. He has a burning desire for promotion but is able to keep it hidden.

Magics He has limited fire magics, just enough to make a small amount of someone’s skin or clothing burst into flames for a few seconds, which is a great advantage in a fight.

Strengths/Good Qualities: He is kind and helpful to people, is a good swordfighter, and has a burning desire to do the right thing.

Weaknesses/Bad Qualities: He never learned any of the hand-to hand martial arts, so if he loses his weapon in a combat he is likely to be overpowered quickly unless he can cast a fire spell. He is unable to tell a lie without blushing scarlet, and his desire to do the right thing can sometimes lead to him annoying people including fellow City Guards.

Belongings: Sword, dagger, baton, Valermoore City Guard uniform/armour, small book of the lesser Fire Spells, enough money to live on.

Character History

Thomas Mountian at birth seemed to be one of the least likely people to be a City Guard ever. He was born to a wealthy coastal crime family known to outsiders as the Tens. The Tens were known for their habit of being split into loose ten-person cells, so that if some of them were killed or captured by City Guards or vigilantes, the others would survive. They also extracted 10% of the profits of those under their rule, maiming or killing those who refused to pay tribute. It was not a lot but when everyone paid it, it added up.

From birth he was taught to hate the City Guards. At the age of ten he started going with other Tens to collect tribute money. At the age of thirteen his father paid for him to go to the Isle of Adepts to be taught Fire Magic, and whilst he never quite reached full Mage level, he learnt enougth of it to be able to set people's clothing in fire in places. His father warned him, however, to be careful not to use the magic in public unless he had to,for fear of bringing mobs of vigilantes and powerful clerical mages down upon him.

He seemed all set for a life of violence and extortion until in a fight with a rival criminal gang, the powerful Red Hands, his brother Rufus, died in his arms after getting a dagger wound in the heart. He decided to turn his back on his entire family amd the night after his brother's funeral and burial, he fled to the capital city of Valermoore, a week's travel away, keeping warm by night by lighting a fire with his magic, telling nobody in his family where he had gone.

Seeking redemption for a life of crime, he enlisted as a lowly constable in the Valermoore City Guards, where he placed his life in danger in the service of the law. Unlike others, he refused to take bribes from anyone to let them escape, drop criminal charges or reveal the indentity of informants and witnesses, nor did he fit up the innocent by planting banned weapons and/or banned magical books on them.He didn't tell lies in court either.

He became nicknamed "Holy Mountian" because of his goodness, and none of his fellow City Guards knew of his wicked past.

Roleplay Notes : He cannot tell lies, or fight well without magic or a weapon. He can also be highly irritating to fellow PC's at times. But he is basicly a good and loyal person. He will not want to get involved in crime.

Toppum
« Reply #18 on: February 20, 2005, 12:46:57 PM »
Summary
He is the Fat Chief, the one that inspired the phrase, "Big Guy in charge"
"You there, Get back to work".

Description
Human/ Male/ 30ish
He is a man with broad shoulders, stocky build, and is developing a bit of a gut.  He is as bald as a baby's butt, and just as pink as well... no matter how much sun he gets (when he might turn red if not for a big hat he always wears outside).

History/ Life/ Explanation
He is the guy in charge. No matter what the group, he seems to take over the day to day running of things.  He is the village headman, the militia sargent, the guild master, the high priest, and so on. There just seems to be a Toppum everywhere.

Roleplay Notes
Stern but fair. He has a friendly demeanor, just because it makes people work more efficiently for him. He has the ability to scold people into doing what they should be doing, like a father scolding a child.  It does not matter who the other person is, he has that effect upon people.

He likes everything running smoothly. He wants to organize the world. He keeps on top of things for those in charge.

Jamius
« Reply #19 on: February 25, 2005, 10:22:02 AM »
Summary/ Blurb
I look Splendid don't I?

Description
Human, Male, Teen/early 20.
Jamius is handsome, with a strong chin, good profile, blond hair, blue eyes, good skin and teeth. He wears a brilliant red over tunic (coat/jacket), which is far beyond his means and station, but looks quite dashing on him. All his clothes look "good on him".

Story
A young man of grand ideas, he thinks he looks grand and should be an "Important Person". He dresses and acts the part, but in reality he is just another worker.

Roleplay Notes
A charismatic young man with high ideas of himself. Vain, but not excessively. He presents himself as "an Important Person here", but in reality, he is just another schmo.

Gordus
« Reply #20 on: March 07, 2005, 09:20:20 AM »
Summary
All mages are not small, frail little scholars. *sniff*

Description
Human/ Male/ 40s
Gordus is a huge man, nearly two meters, 280 stones (lbs/ .5 kg), barrel chested.  He jaw is as powerful as his build.  He is nearly bald. His features are practically set in a scowl. He is always sniffing, part because of his air of superiority, and part because he is allergic to grass and dust.

History/ Life/ Explanation
Gordus finished his training decades ago.  Like most journeymen, he wandered. He settled in a number of places over that time. He has been a local spellsmith (spell caster) for a number of towns in the region. Now he has a shop in the large town/ small city.

While Gordus is intimidating and physically able, he never did learn much in the way of combat or athletic skills.

Roleplay Notes
Gordus is focused upon tradition, honor, and what is dignified. It is "waht is proper".  Being without real wealth, and with little prestige, he treasures his dignity and honor. He thinks most people ignore what others think of them to their own detriment.

Think English Butler or lesser English Noble in terms of his personality.

Emily
« Reply #21 on: March 07, 2005, 09:33:48 AM »
Summary
Every village and neighborhood has one, and this one is a doozie.

Description
Half Human and (insert race, usually elven)/ female/ 28... forever.

Emily is a moderately good looking woman.  She would look better if she took more than a passing interest in her looks. (Her long wavey dark hair, her nearly purple eyes, and fair skin give her an exotic look). Emily does insist on things being clean, so she if very scrubbed, her clothes are clean and well maintained, and her home is spotless.

She is also smart as a whip and hits like one too. She actually reads books. Her tongue is sharper than a serpent's tooth and she has comebacks and snide comments like a stand up comedians.

History/ Life/ Explanation
Emily's parents moved in the area before she was born. The locals have gotten used to them and even accept them. Emily is just another native, despite her exotic background.

She is also the area's "Bossy wench". She is often in people's business, telling them what they should do (her advice is good) and why they should. This tends to get on people's nerves. While they roll their eyes as she goes on rampages, they do what she says; partially because she is right and partially because she won't shut up until they do.

Roleplay Notes
Her roleplay notes are described in the History and Description.

While she wants love and romance, her shrewish behavior has scared away all the locals.  She just says "she has high standards".

Beccia
« Reply #22 on: March 15, 2005, 09:16:23 AM »
Summary
Sigh. Sometimes the road is harder than long.

Description
Human/ Female/ 30
Beccia was once a pretty woman. Now she is looking fairly worn, with lines on her face, bags under her eye, and her once perfect skin ruined by sun, soap, and tanning solutions.  Her figure is still quite girlish, though gaunt. You would think her hair would be greying, but it is still a deep brown with sun touched highlights.  Her hair is the one remnant of the earlier times, as it is held back in one long thick braid that reaches mid thigh

Story
Beccia was a town beauty that followed her heart and the traveller that came to town and swept her off her feet. Unfortunately a travelling tinker's and entertainer's  life is not always easy. Sometimes you must do odd things, liking dying clothes, or collecting wood, or starve in the lean times when you are living on the road.  Especially after she lost him to another pretty girl a few years later. She drifted from town to town, job to job, eventually landing one in the kitchen of an inn.  There she has been for the last few years.

Roleplay Notes
She sounds like a bitter old bitty most of the time. But she can show suprising tenderness to someone who is seriously down on their luck or that she might care for.

She runs her kitchen like a Liche runs an undead army. Commands are screamed and must be obeyed immediately.

Eena
« Reply #23 on: March 23, 2005, 12:55:45 PM »
Summary
There is so much beauty in the universe. It makes the heart ache.

Description
Human/ Female/ 20s
Eena is an average looking female with thick glasses and her raven black hair set in a ponytail. She is well endowed chestwise and rather bright, if a bit naive. She favours shades of red combined with black, but usually has several stains of paint on her skirt. When she meets old friends, regardless if she just met them yesterday, she will make alot of noise and hug intensely.

Story
Eena was the apprentice of a small time enchanter, but lost her apprenticeship due to the fact that the mage "needed some peace and quiet". She only knows a couple of cantrips, which she use to enhance her art; for she is an enthusiastic painter and actually manage to paint quite some romantic and idyllic paintings. They are technically good, if a bit cliche. She is a hopeless daydreamer and harbours all sort of romantic notions. She is waiting for "the one" but feels that he sure is taking his time.

Roleplay Notes
She is an annoyingly intense girl with an irritating inability to perceive when things look bad. Once in a while she falls head over heels in love and woe to her inteded groom to be, unless he is of a like nature.

Her voice is loud and girlish, her manners those of girls 5-8 years her junior.

Tirah S'Cabro
« Reply #24 on: March 23, 2005, 01:14:51 PM »
Summary
The new royal nurse, young and innocent

Description
Human/ Female/ 19

Tirah is young and slender. Her face is pretty and innocent, her eyes are brown and enthralling. Her hair is dark blonde and her skin is fair. She is usually silent, save for when she runs after the princeling as they "wage war" throughout the royal gardens.

Story
Tirah is the new royal nurse, the caretaker of the two youngest princelings. She was chosen for her humble nature, good looks and noble blood. She belongs to the important, but poor S'Cabro family line.

She has grown genuinely fond of the princelings, but is afraid of their father and has noticed the lust in his eyes. The Queen has put the young girl under her wing, however, and has so far thwarted all of the King's attempts to have his way with the royal nurse.

Roleplay Notes
She has a mild tone of voice, and an equally mild demeanor. She will not look directly in the eyes of those she speak with and might blush if she talks to handsome boys. She is slightly frightened in the presence of the King and stammers when he address her.

She is genuinely boring when you get her to speak; not interested in more than make up, fashion and, ever since her new post, how impossible some children are (albeit she says so with obvious fondness for the princelings).
