A Bureaucratic Table
« on: January 31, 2003, 05:24:02 AM »
That NPC characteristics reminded me of a table I made once just for fun.

What kind of clerk can you meet in an office?

Basic Table (1d10):
1. Cheerful.
2. In a good mood.
3. Uninterested, does his job like a machine.
4. Sick of it all, considering a new job.
5. Problems with his boss.
6. Somebody just made him angry.
7. Does not like people exactly like YOU!
8. The superior is just in the same room...
9. Absolutely boring and uninteresting.
10.Special Effect!

Bribe Table (1d6):
1. Desperately needs money right now!
2. Will gladly accept.
3,4 Doesn't expect, but won't mind.
5. Tries to ignore attempts at first, then see 6.
6. Gets angry and calls the guards!

It is a corrupt world, this one, adjust to your standards.

Special Effects Table (1d6):
(re-roll the Basic Table, ignore a 10)
1. Is secretly checked by his boss or someone else.
2. Actively tries to get bribed, or may blackmail them later
3. Supernatural ability - can feel lies.
4. Supernatural ability - can read minds.
5. Drunken, or under influence of some drug.
6. Schizophrenic, will change his personality in a few moments.
Do not correct me, I know I am wrong.

Intrege Table (1d6)
1. Mistakes you for the person having an affair with his bosses spouse.
2. Is a foreign spy and believes you are his contact.
3. Wants to defect and believes you are the spy to help him out of the country.
4. Works in the black market and offers you a chance to do him a favor to get what you wanted free.
5. Mistakes you for a prominent member of an underground prostitution/slave ring.
6. Tells you whoever you're dealing with is having an affair with the local lord.
After a brief retirement while I got married and traveled the country, I'm back. Just getting back into the swing of things for now, but gearing up to hit things up like I used to.

2. Decides a PC is cute, and tries to coerce them to come along.
3. Decides a PC is a barbarian and gives them grief.

"I grab the sword!"
"Mmkay, you're dead."
"What!?"
"You just grabbed the sword of the god you were just personally responsible for banishing from the world for the next ten thousand years. You just got zapped by around a billion volts of Angry Divine Power. You're dead."

Well, well, well. All interesting points, but not for a bureaucrat. Any merchant would do well with such options, however.

Now that I have processed this thread into a little generator of its own, does anyone have ideas on expanding this part? If there is a want for a merchant thingy, I can make it.
