I understand now.  The balance must remain.  I switch to Opera, and Strolen switches to FF.  There must be a balance on the site or it'd all go *bloomy*.

Biggest issue for me is no 64bit Opera and there is too much involved with getting the 32bit installed with all the extra crap you need to support it. (linux)

Firefox is just easier...plus it has Firebug.

I still use it in Windoze though, don't need Firebug in windows.

As a Microsoft developer (working for an ISV - Independent Software Vendor) I do not get to use Linux overly much. In Windows, the unquestioningly superior OS *cough*, Opera is the browser of choice.

Firefox has that Firebug that made even me happy. However Firefox feels... Awkward. Unnatural. Windows 95-ish. Archaic. Old. And EVERY d**n feature they have is a straight RIP off Opera. They stole their tech. *mutters*

That is one thing that pisses me off about Firefox and IE. I keep reading articles comparing those two and talking about all these grand features they have...finally...specifically the tabs. And they talk like it is all new and shiny when Opera has had them for years. Then the big thing that Firefox finally put a close button on their tabs like it is the most novel thing ever. Gimmie a break. At least they gave credit to Apple when the spoke of Windows, they could at least give credit to Opera when they speak of Firefox and IE.

Opera 9.20

For instance:
Go to the strolen.com index.
Right click on the search form field.
Select "Create Search"
Label it.

Now, in the title bar where you can pick google, amazon, yahoo, etc, you now have the option to pick Strolen's Citadel as your default search. Even has the nifty icon. Put your search criteria in and it brings you to the search page.

Sweet!

----

Click on "new tab" and it now has what they call their "speed dial". Instead of a blank tab where you have to type or open a bookmare, it shows a page with 9 available screenshots of favorite webpages. Drag a webpage onto the "speed dial" number and it takes a screenshot and creates a hotlink. So when you open a new tab there is a nice organized set of 9 screenshots of your favorite webpages ready for an immediate click and visit.

You can refresh the screenshots with a CTRL-R at any time.

Awesome feature that I am sure IE and Mozilla will adopt immediately if they haven't already...then we will read in the magazines about this great "new" feature "they" came up with.

I am broadband so, 15 seconds.... :)

Under 5MG....amazing it works isn't it. You couldn't guess something could be that efficient when you look at IE. Firefox is almost 6MG so a very nice size too.

I am using 9.20 now too. Other sweet fixes are:
- Opera now works with everything microsoft (msdn.com, outlook web mail, sharepoint portal server) except ActiveX (and there is a reason why they do not support activex).

Those fixes have been gradual during other updates, but with 9.20 I can actually use Opera in my Microsoft related work.

Hooray for Opera Software!

*dusts off the Opera thread*

Have a question for the more tech-minded Opera-philes of the place.  I use Livejournal for various things, and those things require me to have several different log-ins.  I know there's a plug-in thingy for Firefox that allows the user to switch between logins.  Does anyone know if there's a similar thingy for Opera?  It's still my browser of choice, but it's annoying to have to log out of one account then log into another to do stuff.

Got me stumped. I saw CookiePie but I don't know of anything in Opera that will allow it. I have started about even usage between Firefox and Opera when developing and use Opera only when just surfing. Firebug is just too irresistable and useful and Opera's answer to that (Dragonfly) is a bit cumbersome.

Firebug is great for web developers. For the rest of the world it is nothing to be concerned with.

Currently I use IE (because all the Microsoft ActiveX controls need it), Firefox (for web design) and Opera (for personal browsing and advanced net-junkie functionality).

Internet Explorer clearly is a cumbersome dinosaur, but when it comes to Firefox and IE it is so-so. Both are capable browsers with different areas of usage.

Sadly I do not know of multiple user switching in Opera. Perhaps it could be a feature to be posted on their public forums, so that the devs can make it for us. It IS a sweet idea.

My solution to the problem, as I prefer Opera for personal browsing, is to log out and in again with the magic wand. Granted it is not ideal.

Opera has been struggling for a while. Its continued failure to lure new users to the browser has been noticed by current and potential future investors.Financially they have done well, but the market hoped for a strong alliance with Google, or perhaps a purchase.

With the launch of Chrome the market reacted negatively, Opera shares plummeting 20% in a couple of days.

Some analysts now announce they believe Opera will hit the wall in five or six years.

That would be horrible. They are also the only mobile browser worth anything. Haven't used the iphone and that one seems good, but for others of us stuck with the crap that comes with most phones, opera mobile comes to the rescue!

Well, it is only speculation. Safari has some huge security holes that renders it unusable for electronic banking and payments, so, well, I'd use Opera.

Please let this be false.

Opera saved my web experience when I used a lumbering old dinosaur back in 2000 and tried it out - suddenly realised not every page load had to lag for seconds. It's such a ridiculously superior browser.

I love it so much I could even consider abandoning linux for windows if it somehow stopped working in linux.
