Ship Six is a Penguin RP. Before we get started, here's the rules:
1. My word is LAW!
2. Absolutely NO MUNCHKINISM!
-Munchkinism is hereby defined as: Power-gaming, god-moding, playing a sorceror character (especially since there are no sorcerers in space), and/or controlling/killing off/otherwise affecting mine or others' NPCs without permission.
3. I want to keep this moving so it won't stagnate and die. If you don't post for five days, we'll go on without you, unless you provide a decent reason for not posting.
4. See Rule #1.
5. Also, follow all rules not hereby outlined that are outlined in the Freeform Rules in the regular Freeform board.
6. Please no smilies or chatspeak in the roleplay thread.
Without further ado...
The Story
The Ship isn't working anymore.
25,000 civilians, 10,000 officials and officers, the 10-man strong Council. They are in a frozen cryo-sleep. 325 years ago, they left Earth, fleeing the growing deserts and frozen wastelands, the undefensible radiation of the Sun and the final gasps of human civilization on the Homeworld. Their vessel was the Ship, Ship Six of twenty, and for 500 years they were to be frozen, awaiting their arrival at a new home. Their caretakers were the three AIs, Pericles, Eteocles, and Thais.
Among the foodstuffs, oxygen, technology, and other random et ceteras of the cargo, there lay a secret, one that only the brass had access to: 10 cyborg battleroids.
But all is not well.
It is the 325th year of a 500 year journey, and there is a problem.
For hundreds of years, science-fiction writers have predicted Humanity's triumphant first meeting with outsiders. How ironic, then, that Ship Six, the first Human craft to encounter aliens, is found dark and malfunctioning by the attacking Szchra.
The Szchra have found things in Ship Six as they have been for several decades: Lightless, mostly cold, abandoned. The AIs provide no contest, lurking in frozen datanets. Are they dormant or awake?
The Szchra approach vast banks of frozen humans. There is no answer.
It's a big Ship, tunneled out of a vast asteroid taken from the Belt, outfitted with a FTL drive. The Szchra aren't done exploring.
Guess who's awake? Deep in the cargo-caverns, 10 cybernetic cryo-coffins crack open. The ice begins to melt, steam is released. 10 cyborg battleroids, man/machines, trained for battle, enter the first stages of low consciousness.
The heroes awaken like zombies. Which, really, they are- 340 years ago, the fresh corpses of soldiers in the long wars were gathered. Microchips and instigators were integrated into their brains. Their skeletons and muscles were cyberneticized, their organs vitalized and boosted with Carbon-20 nanomachines. Other processes were included- no time for that now.
Something has activated their awakening sequence.
10 cyborgs, resurrected warriors of long-dead (or, at least, long frozen) Human civilization. They are the hope of Ship Six. They must stop the Szchra and find the AIs. They must set things right in Ship Six. Perhaps, they will unravel some of the mysteries, and recover their lost memories in the process.
There is more than meets the eye in Ship Six...
------------------------------------------------------------*
The heroes are each one of the 10 cyborg battleroids, cybernetic warriors created for battle. Something on Ship Six has activated their awakening sequence, and it couldn't happen at a better time, for three reasons:
1. The AIs are gone. Where are Pericles, Eteocles, and Thais?
2. An alien race, the Szchra, have invaded the Ship, and have begun to explore. In some of the outer Sectors, they have awakened and enslaved the bewildered Human colonists, who were formerly in cryogenic sleep.
3. Deprived of it's controlling AIs, and without humans to work it, Ship Six is ceasing to function. The defense shields have dropped, and the engines have powered down.
Your character is to be one of the battleroids. Each battleroid is a cyborg warrior (once a human corpse). They are somewhat unstable, but they are also very powerful. They sometimes experience echoes of their former lives in the form of flashbacks and hallucinations. They are prone to mental instability. They are also encased in powered armor, called a coffin-suit, which surrounds their cybernetically-maintained bodies. Each battleroid has an identifier, which may or may not be their name from before their death.
I'm flexible, though. If you don't want to play a cyborg killing machine with semi-amnesia, you could, conceivably, play one of the confused Human colonists who have been awakened too early out of cryostasis by the Szchra. You are exhausted and weak, sick from cryofluid in your organs (the Szchra can't work the technology properly, so you weren't well flushed), and confused. You are probably lost in the darkened hallways, or captured by the Szchra for study, disection, and slave labor.
Your character write-up will be on this thread. I need name (or identifier, if you are a battleroid), age (not including years in cryostasis), and possible skills and specialties. If you are a Human and not a battleroid, make sure to include a background. Battleroids, your background might be revealed to you as you play, or it may remain a mystery.
So... Uh... Now accepting player requests.
