"That wouldnt be a bad plan except for one fact," Peter said, "All of mechs are assaults, that means slow. Its hard to play cat and mouse with hovercraft when they can move on average 3 times as fast as we can. We have the advantage of armor, but that isnt much comfort when we are trying to play the clanners out into a battle of attrition."
"To win this battle, we have to control the terrain, we have to make the clanners come to us, and face us on our terms. If we try that plan, we might as well blow the mechs in the hold now. They still have a moderate advantage and range with their weapons."
By bidding, we know that the clanners wont contest our landing zone, or they have held that rule so far." McLaren said.
"We give the clanners just what they want, a seeming massive victory over us poor stupid spheroids." Peter said with a grin. "We put up most of our machines, and say half of the cavaliers, make a good show of it. But when we get in hot and heavy, we hit the panic button, let our formation fall apart and fall back. Retreat in the face of the superior clan warriors."
"If we can get in contact with the garrison, we can organize a second wave, an ambush with our hovertanks, a few mechs and the rest of the cavaliers. The clanners go balls to the wall to get their kills and score some respect from their betters. Then, maybe here at the Macho Grande basin," Peter said, sitting his bottle of beer in the middle of map, "We regroup fast, the clanners run headlong into our guns, and the hovertanks and cavaliers come down on them like a whirlwind. Its close quarters, so they loose the range advantage, plus if we can get into physical combat, we generally carry more armor, and they dont engage in close in."
"Break them hard, break them fast. Maybe we can even get some field guns set up with the garrison, some suppressing fire at that point could be a deciding factor." Peter said.
