Michael As a auxiliary/pilot, he would either take the navigations seat next to Mickey, or man the communications post, on the rear of the bridge. If he handles the first, he will be feeding flight data to the helm pilot. If he takes the other, he will run communications between the Ballard, and the spacedock.

Which ever post you take, Alec Shadowkin ala Pere, should assume the other, or if he gets one first, you should assume the other.

Everyone, we are looking green.

Quick note for Captain Penguin, You will be picked up at the Europa refueling post, where your character will have been on shore leave, or looking for another space flight mission. Europa is a major transit hub in the Terran Solar system, and sees heavy traffic.

Moonhunter should also embark on the Ballard at that same pit stop. Replacing two pilots who failed to muster at the dock.

I'm not going to bother reading through the thread- it makes it easier for me not to metagame. So unless there is something I must know from the previous pages, I've got all I need.
By the way, could you notify me when my number's up? I'm not sure when you dock in Europa.

Your number wont take long to come up. Heh heh.

If you read over the thread youll read more about the other players, and get the mission briefing, not much to the meta-game IMO.

The Ballard will be arriving soon

Navigation: The space lanes scanned clear, no dangeorus debris or ships in the way. Trejectory is clear all the way to Europa.

Helm: All propulsion systems green, all control systems green also. One light flicks yellow, an aft thuster shutdown. Not a major concern, but it should be looked at when docked for refueling at Europa. Being the helmsman, it is Mickeys duty to pilot. Severin is busy with the navigation station.

Engineering: all systems green, but the reactor output has a hiccup in it. Nothing outside of parameters, but both engineers can notice this.

MedBay: All systems green, all crew monitor show good. (small device in uniform that registers pulse, skin temperature. Easily removed.

I jumped ahead of a few players. i have pulled my last post, and will not resubmit it until everyone has posted and we are ready to pull out of the docks.

We will still be stopping at Europa to pick up Moon and the Captain.

Bump

waiting for Pere, at the communications console

While we are waiting, Cap'n and Moon you two can do your intro posts from Tybee Station on Europa, where you are waiting to be picked up by the next assignment, the Ballard.

Tybee is a former military installation that was decommisioned, and later recommisioned as a fueling base for pansolar traffic. The base is neary 200 years old and not in the best shape.

Think Mos Eisley, but with alot of cold, and near instantly fatal surface conditions.

Er, I'd like to apologise for my inactivity the last few days, as I am currently sick as a dog. I have a bad case of influenza and quite simply cannot concentrate well enough to roleplay. It actually gives me a headache! :o

Anywho - My flu is beginning to clear up, I think, so I should be back in proper action in 2 or 3 days. If the GM would like to take control of my character until then, if needed, feel free.

Well ShadowEagle, I hope you get to feeling better, it has been a long time since I got the flu but I remember it well enough to sympathize with you.

One thing to remember Jinx, is that we all started with just one flame...or at least I think everyone did.   :)

Aliens
« Reply #43 on: September 07, 2004, 04:00:35 PM »
Even in this future setting, aliens are an unknown. UFOs are still encountered little changed from the current, sensor blips, odd readings, luminescent craft that pull away from any persuit with ease. They also have the same level of credibility. Not many people claim to have seen UFOs as they are often attributed to computer ghosts, space isolation, or sensor errors.

Of course there are a few space superstitions.

Saturn is a Bermudas Triangle of vanished ships, most claim errant debris destroying hapless ships, but others are not so convinced.

Most of Mars is considered 'haunted' by ghosts and aliens, the equivalent of crop circles and alien anal probings. There have been a number of very popular movies of action stars defending Mars from ramaging aliens, or blasting martian ghosts and their ressurected war machines.

Diamunde
« Reply #45 on: September 09, 2004, 08:02:33 PM »
Now, I see a lot of references to a war on Diamunde given by Luke Lavin and Jinx. The impression I got was that humans hadn't left the solar system (making a ship stranded past Uranus a big deal), so I thought that maybe Diamunde was a place on the Earth or a colony or something.
But now, Luke has said something about Diamunde's "main continent".
*dramatic pause*
WHAT?!
Clear this up for us, Scras. Am I right, and are we confined to the Solar System (As I hope; space seems so much more interesting when Man hasn't conquered it) ? Or do we have way-out colonies as Luke seems to have gathered?

I was under hte impression with Scars references to the Sol system that it was a cluster of three of four star systems with multiple inhabited plaents and colonies, also scars mentioned dimensional travel ships in one of his posts.

It looks to me, Luke, That if Mars (Which, in real life, is the next logical place of inhabitation) is thought of as a land of ghosts and superstition, then it is highly unlikely that planets outside of our immediate area are inhabited. And even if there ARE ships with interdimensional travel, By the looks of things, they are too expensive to give flights to enough civilians to inhabit a new planet.

I propose the following as a compromise: Earth is inhabited only. HOWEVER! With this interdimensional travel, people have found the planet known as Diamunde, which has oxygen and similar terrain to earth. As a result, they set up an experimental colony there to see if people could survive. Thus, there are a few hundred, perhaps thousand people in there.
The theory bieng that, if these people can survive here, then in the future, when dimensional travel ships arent so expensive, they can bring more people to inhabit the planet.

I would wait for Scras' final answer.

Though I am not opposed to the idea of colonies on a few planets (my own character is from the Moon), I do think that it changes the whole character of the RP if there are planets known outside our solar system. The whole basis of the horror genre, which I assumed from the name that we are in, is the unknown, and so, if Human beings know not only the far reaches of our solar system (where the Celeste is) but also other planets, it does not make sense that the Earth's government would be mystified by a ship on the far side of Uranus. We need mystery, and there is considerably less mystery in a place when you have already explored it.

As for dimensional travel- what I gathered was that the Celeste was special because it had FTL engines. Isn't that right? Or maybe I'm totally wrong? Well, whatever.

That's my two cents, anyway.

The I don't know about the Celeste but I know Scarasmax mention dimension travel ships.  I did not think I said Diamunde was another Earth but I was using it as a way to relate to other characters with military backgrounds and develope realationships between the characters sorry if I took things a little into my own hands. I'll wait for scarasmax's answer.
