How could you like Harry Potter?!

I'm reading Hyperion by Dan Simmons. A d**n fine book, even if you don't particularly enjoy science fiction.

I've read all the harry potter books too, but if the next one is as big as the 5th one, I'm gonna need to build some furiture just to hold that book. They're getting huge!

I've thought about reading Hyperion, but the cover art with the spiky guy has always thrown me off. I dunno, I just can't bring myself to read a story with a cover like that on it.

Without Remorse by Tom Clancy (very nice)
Harry Potter
Darkness Series by Harry Turtledove (Its about 6 books but theres no title for the whole line so i made one up b/c all the titles have the word Darkness in them, its like WW2 but in a world where magic takes place instead of technology. also very nice)
Mechwarrior Series (started at Twilight of the Clans till Endgame)
StarWars books till the Yzom Vong or whatever, i think it went downhill from there.

For the past few weeks, I've been reading the Hyperion series (Hyperion, the Fall of Hyperion, Endymion, the Rise of Endymion)
They're d**n good books, especially if you're a big fan of sci-fi.

Haven't heard of some of the others.

Read a armload of historical books on pirates and the British Navy recently but finally got out of that mood and read
Train Man by Deutermann (which was a pretty good book despite the silly title)

and just started

Pattern Recognition by Gibson.

Hmmm. Terry Pratchett is ALWAYS a great writer...
Yeah, and Hyperion truly was good series of books.
I've been reading on John Steinbeck lately. He is good too.
And, of course, a lot of poems. Pentti Saarikoski, my favorite poetist has made some books which are like bibles to me.

I read a lot, usually I read a book or two per day and I just don't have will to put all the books I've read lately.

Yeah, and I've been reading R.A. Salvatores Dark Elf -trilogy about the third time now. I hate those books, but I have to read them now because I have to study the facts about the world of dark elves for my own world which I've been constructing for the last seven years.

It quite pisses me off sometimes.

Back in the day the dark elf was the coolest thing since sliced bread. Now, I have much trouble going back and reading them. Ruins my good memory of the books. Sort of like Shannara series. Remember loving it when I first read them. Now, I can't even get through them so I tend to just live with the memories.

Well, they're still quite good when you compare them to Tad Williams' books or to Ice Wind Dale -trilogy. There are some interesting characters, like Masoj or Alton and Belwar and like in Salvatores books. (And of course Artemis Entreri and Jarlaxle) But Drizzt usually pisses me off. I've always hated the books because everyone, and especially Drizzt, is so cruel. Goblins and orcs have souls too you know?

Yeah, and Artemis (of course) had to be ruined with this:
"Hi, I'm Artemis Entreri and... oh my god! I got my foot slipped and I'm falling to the deep dephts of the Abyss! But... oh, what a luck, just for a coincidence, there was a BIG spider web/Jarlaxle's Little Helpers/Some Magical Thingie (TM) below which saved my life. Phew, that was close!"

I've been reading Lovecraft. I likes Lovecraft. Will have to get some more. The man makes Stephen King look like a hack.

I've just finished my first foray into manga (which, if you don't know, is the comics series that most anime are based on.) One Piece: Romance Dawn. Will definitely have to get more of all types.

Vulcan's Forge. By JAck DuBrul, I think. It's a really good conspiracy theory/adventure/all around ass-kicking book.

Amazonia. I THINK it's done by DuBrul as well, but I'll have to check. Also a very good book.

Congo, Michael Crichton. Loved the book, hated the movie.

Rats, Bats, and Vats, by Dave Freer and Eric Flint. Science Fiction with some decidedly comedic moments.

The Weekly World News, when they have a headline I can't resist. I really think that the authors are all on recreational drugs of some sort.

Books I read. Well, the game is principally inspired by The Illuminatus Trilogy by Roberts Shea and Wilson.
Anything by Frank Herbert, esp. Dune.
Roger Zelazny, Amber etc.
Philip K Dick, though I prefer the films, like Total Recall.
Robert Sheckley, a forgotten master of humorous SF.
AE Van Vogt, esp The Null A Stories. (thanx for Non Aristotlean Thinking!!!!!)
Ian M Banks, on a good day. Against a Dark Background is a MUST.
Michael Moorcock, esp The Knight of the Swords.
AA Attanasio, BRILLIANT times 3.
Ian Flemming.
Poul Anderson.
Piers Antony.
Alan Dean Foster.
Isaac Asimov.
Arthur C Clarke.
Robert Heinlein.
HGWells.
Can’t forget Kurt Vonnegut Jnr. The Sirens of Titan is one of the best books ever.
So, you see, it’s mainly classic SF and Science Fantasy. Piers and AA Attanasio are probably the newest. These days I’m more into SF Films, as since Star Trek, things have got pretty cool on the movie scene. As for the films I like, I’m sure you’ll be able to predict that. The main theme I look for is a clever plot, or informative ideas (Arthur C. Clarke).
And if you’ve never read Modesty Blaise……..

Of course, if you’ve read Illuminatus, the game makes a lot more sense. But if you want to know more about Discordianism, look up Principia Discordia up on the web (it’s a 60 page book on the net/free like)

I Have read the dark-elf trilogy, the icewind dale trilogy, the legacy of the drow series, and the spine of the world series. All based off of Drizzt DoUrden and ive found them to be quite good(although to be honest i skip most of the fight scenes). But currently I'm reading "Romance of the Three Kingdoms" part II. That is the series that dynasty warriors was based off of. It is also one of chinas' first novels.

I like his military non fiction. I am adapting the information in his submarine book to a space game (for star ships), using the armor book for inspiration on a Hammer's Slammers like game, and Airforce for Kerren.

I like some of his work. Ops center is interesting. I really liked Net Force and recomend it as near future science fiction (or even a very pleasant cyberpunk).

I cant stand hystorical books and most science fiction. I can somewhat stand hystorical fiction (ROTK). I mostly read fantasy because i love magic and swordplay. Don't get me wrong I HATE harry potter, he gives Wizards a pathetic name.

I have just finished reading a Greyhawk novel called "Against the Giants". It was very well written, for it really gave you an incite into the characters (races and classes). I know this is a module, and I would love to play in it someday.
