Just today-
Tekumel (GOO)
Dragonmech (D20 but very innovative)
Some Dream Pod Nine book I don't remember (still being delivered)

And yes, I know, all across the internet, it has been discussed and re-discussed how the Lunars were made too much into combat monsters. And the discussion is correct- they have too many combat charms. There should be more into their mystical, shapeshifting nature. But that aside, I LOOOOOOVE them!

Hero Clix: You know, we should have a listing for Clix of all kinds (Hero, MageKnight, et al )

I managed not to become addicted to Magic the Gathering (back in the alpha run days). So I never had the hunting/ hounding/ must collect every card in the set mentality.

The only ccg I ever found was L5R which was a better game because initially it was totally balanced and completely limited. (In all these years, there has only been one slightly broken card and that was because of the story line changes). I enjoyed it, but backed away when I saw that I was not as SERIOUS as the rest of the l5r players. (L5R players = fantatics, there seems not to be any casual ones).

But then clix came. I became a collectable game addict.

I am a huge comic fan, so I open the little bubble packs with total glee... anticipation about what character I might get... thinking about the various story lines associated with them... thinking how I can use this as a miniature (any pretense of playing the new Marvel Game completely went away after reading and rereading the rules)... thinking about the paint... the sculpt... loving the concrete expression of comic goodness... my preciousssssss..... errr.. yah well. You get the idea.

Most of my game books were destroyed in a fire some years ago, but I've built it back up to just under 300 books.  My oldest is Star Frontiers from '82, but admittedly that copy is a replacement purchased two years ago.  The most recent book is Death: The Pale Horse, which currently exists only as a single copy, which is being stress-tested to ensure that I've got the bindings right.

my oldest book would have to be my twilight 2000 core rulebook from the 80's
I also have the warhammer 40k rulebook, wepons book, and a newer (the black one with revised rules) rulebook and an imperial guard codex.
I got sick of using other people's books so I finally got the 3.5 ed. player handbook, DM guide, and monster manual. I also have the epic level handbook, the complete rogue suppliment, and the FR Underdark suppliment.
I also have many rp e-books, folders and folders of them, and a few CD's worth of DnD quests. And I have a couple notebooks of DnD campaign notes and a couple of character journals. I also have a full notebook (five subject) of my NWN character's journals, encounters, and important events (not to mention novel-like backstories  )

While I don't hate D20, it is not my favorite system... so why have I bought so much of it recently.

D20 Future, to back up my D20 Modern
D20 Game of Thrones (I like this one too)
Spycraft 2.0 (which is looking less and less like D20 every edition)

Gurps Supers, which is not D20, but the only non D20 game I have purchase recently.

I kick myself everytime I think about my past collection of books. I had an old navy footlocker, large enough to put a dead body in if you folded their legs up just slightly. It was rather large.

I had it full of old DnD books, Traveller, and suppliments. I threw it out because my then, fiance was tired of her throwing stuff away and I wasn't. So I got real upset and chunked the entire chest. There was probably a good $450.00 worth of stuff back then. Today it would undoubably be worth more. I had an original box set of 1st Edition DnD.

Now I own approximatly 10 core books between:
Vampire 1st Edition
Vampire 2nd Edition
Vampire: Dark Ages
Vampire: Inquisition
DnD 1st Edition Players Handbook
DnD 2nd Edition Dungeon Masters Guide
DnD 3rd Edition Players Handbook
L5R 1st Edition
L5R 2nd Edition, every clan book, 8 I think.
Call of Cthulhu 2nd Edition
Palladium Fantasy to include two source books.
The box set of DnD Planescape. d**n I have a lot of DnD stuff sincei hate it so much.

As for PDF files...
Serenity
The Book of Tricks and Traps
A Magical Society: Guide to Monster Stats
DnD Weapons of Legacy
DnD Unearthed Arcana
DnD Monster Manual 3
DnD Monster Manual 1
Forgotten Realms: Sons of Gruumsh
DnD Expanded Psionics Handbook
DnD Eberron - Five Nations
DnD Dungeon Masters Guide 3.0
DnD Draconomicon
DnD Diadamon Pantheon
DnD Kingdoms of Kalamar 3.0
DnD Fantastic Locations - Fane of the Drow
DnD Complete Adventures Handbook
Book of Beasts
Book of Devils
Book of Demons
Book of Daemons
Barbarians of Lemuria
Stargate RPG
Stargate Fantastic Frontiers
Stargate System Lords
Stargate Friends and Foes

Hmmm, ever since my last post I bought only more and more books. I have expanded my D20 collection (sorry moonhunter) to include most of the swashbuckling books by AEG.
And now that I have had a look at some information at www.7thsea.info I am looking into buying the original 7th sea books. However I pretty much do not like the fact that the original books are no longer sold, or better they are no longer printed, so I might have to be forced to buy the PDF version.

To me that stinks... I absolutly prefer old fashioned books, you know, the paper ones that you can hold and read in bed.

With kind regards,

Ylorea

Luddite! PDFs, when professionally or near professionally done, are just as valid as "real books".  Hero Games and SJ Games are selling not only downloadable PDFs, but CDs with PDFs on them.

I am not defending the "freebie crap" of somewhat done stuff that populates much of the PDF/ File world. But complete games or products that have reached the bar of professional or near professional games... they count. There is a thriving business (which is good for gaming) of electronic format games (DriveThrough Gaming and the site from rpg.now). Most people do not have access to friendly local game stores.  And many FLGS DO NOT carry much of the alternate, or let me be blunt here NON D20, RPG material on the market. They are counting on the WotC zombies to snatch up anything with that D20 logo.  When I have to go order online just to SEE new Hero Products (5th largest rpg producer) and some SJ games (2nd largest), we have to acknowledge that PDF is a valid format.

Capt, how'd you get here then?  Pretty sure you can't find it woithout the internet.
They were immediately and absolutely recognizable as adventurers... They were hardy and dangerous, lawless, stripped of allegiance or morality, living off their wits, stealing and killing, hiring themselves out to whoever and whatever came. They were inspired by dubious virtues.  China Mieville - Perdido Street Station

Until the resolution and frequency of modern day screens reach acceptable levels, PDF's can never equal physical media.

Counting PDF's would be plain silly. I got about 60 computer science books, but I got kazillions of computer science PDF's.

They just don't count.

You can't thumb through a PDF
You can't take it with you into the bathroom
...or the bathtub.
It can't sit in the front seat of your car to read at break time
A PDF doesnt have that confortable book smell

That is what Lap Tops and PDAs are for.  If you have an E-reader, they work great for this.

Okay. I agree. But I would never

Knowledge does not have to be stinky!  Computer users know that for a fact.

This is a paradigm shift. Our hobby can no longer support the increasing cost of paper books. How many of you can shell out $50 USD for a core book? Or $30 for Support book (or one of three books required to run the system)?  Too many standing game companies are getting out of the business because of sheer economics.  Others are retooling to adapt to the paradigm. New members of our hobby can not make the entrance fees (so to speak), as games are just too darn expensive at the start. Thus there will only be old gamers holding on to their molding books. If we embrace cheaper and easier to transfer electronic medium, we can allow for a lower entrance fee, better communication and learning for new members of the hobby, and keep new gamers instead of losing them to CCGs and computer games.

I'd have to say I have at least in the 51-100 range... That's hard back books, and pdfs... I might have more than that.. haven't tried counting in a while... though if I had to, I could probably go through and count them up.

I just bought the deities and demigods book, i figured it was a good tool for dietiy creation so i know what should be explained and it helps when needing a quick diety while playing NWN. I also got the forgotten realms campaign setting book, i don't know why i bought it, maybe satan made me do it.
