An ecological dungeon Dungeons  (Underground)   (Ecology)

We have all seen articles on how Dungeons don’t work. I’ve seen such articles before. But this time, an idea struck me: Why not do a dungeon that really works? Where creatures live their lives in harmony; just the right ecological way?

Barrows of The First Men Dungeons  (Any)   (Style)

The First Men buried their Kings and “Big People” (Nobles and other Important people) in underhills - tombs made under hills of earth called Barrows. While this custom seems quite common, the First Men were not.  The First Men were closer to The Mythics - The Shidhe (Elves) and Dwarves - and The True Dreaming Magics than Modern Men. Thus entering their barrows means you are entering a different world and time.

Memories of the Asdarien Plots  (Travel)   (Single-Storyline)

On one of the adventurers’ many journeys through the lands, they one day enter a very strange village surrounded by a palisade. Therein all villagers seem to be sleeping, their hair long and flowing and their nails ever growing. Snow has settled on the land and the few found outdoors are covered in a thin layer of powdery white snow. Nothing can be done to awaken these mysterious sleepers and there seems to be no escaping this village either.

Then the night falls…

Small Gods NPCs  (Mythic/ Historical)   (Mystical)

"Hail! You there, farmer. We are in need of aid; do you have a temple or a priest? We ran into some bandits up the road there and are injured. Jonst won’t last much longer." A large man bellowed from the broken roadside.

"Of course stranger. You can find Luayas in the center of the village proper continue on until you see a large apple tree; she can aid your wounded. Please be gentle and offer tithes for her generosity." A gentle eyed man in homespun clothing, simple yet comfortable in the heat.

"Thank you farmer, we are in your debt. What does Luayas look like so that we might find her quickly? Does she stay by the tree often?" saying over his shoulder in thanks as he half pushed, half carried his companion along.

"No stranger." The farmer laughed, "She is the tree."

The party had driven the beasts to the edge of the cliffs, the kill was swift.  Tlilpotonqui smiled broad and warm.  It had been a fine day.  His smile faded as he spied the crescent Moon already hanging delicately in the sky.  The west was fading to pinks and golds.  In his excitement, he had forgotten the time.  He fell back, letting the party get well ahead, and turned towards the cliffs.  As the last rays of the Sun faded he dove towards the rocky waters below…

Undead Economy Articles  (Resource)   (Gaming - In General)

The lowly Undead cannot be a true replacement for a living well-motivated workforce. But Undead do not tire, they do not have moods (well none worth marking), they do not require pay or lunchbreaks, and can work 24/7, if properly controled. So until activists start to fight for Undead rights, they are an interesting option.

Various Theisms Articles  (Resource)   (Gaming - In General)

Religions. Sigh. Can’t live with them, can’t live without them.  They have been such an intergral part of Human existance, that ignoring them is something you do at your own peril.  A lack of religion (even hidden away in the background) can completely destroy the verisimiltude that a world designer desperately works so hard to achieve. So here is brief outline of various kinds of theisms.

WWMWBI - Grain Went Away Articles  (Resource)   (Game Mastering)

Imagine a blight that killed off the grasses and grains. This is not an unheard off event. Mutant spores, molds, and diseases have killed off a wide variety, even who classes, of plants in the real world. Something that kills off grasses, sounds like science fiction (and the premise has been used in many “end of the world” movies and stories), but it is very applicable to a fantasy world… especially because they are mostly agrarian.

The mighty dragon - arrogant, though rightly so, for what blade can pierce such beautiful armour? What warrior can match its lithe, graceful movements and raw power? But what if such a regal, magestic beast were cut down to size? What if it became human, itself?
