I was hoping for much much more when I read the title. As it is this is a solid and simple item. Not over over-done and not under developed and it can definitely be tweaked to any use as per needed. Go to Comment

The title made me expect a listing of all kinds of different religious vestments, Kuseru-style which would have been fun (miter, etc)

But this is good too. I mean we've all seen variances of these robes before, but it's still a useful, useable, and straightforward, piece.

One nagging thought is--though they demand "faith" to function properly, that doesn't seem much of an impediment or mental obstacle to the "faithful"...in a world where gods are real. And once a wearer sees them work...one time.

While I wish this was more fleshed out I realize that it is a great fluff piece of added to a larger whole. I like it and brings images of dark sooty weapon masters being enslaved and forced to work this hell forge for some evil villain. Wonderful.

I had originally had a lower vote but it just sparked a few ideas in me so I voted higher for the inspiration it gave me. Go to Comment

Makes a nice piece of interesting dungeon dressing, or perhaps a source of power for someone. I like what's here, but I think it feels a hint unfinished.

I do like the idea of finding a desolate town with an underground, Centralia-style fire caused by one of these. Go to Comment

I didn't find this as orgasmic a read as Cheka did lol, but the concept itself (and the fun table) is great and classic! It does beg for expansion of some sort as mentioned by DLM, but can't currently think of ideas to add.

a suggestion for the table of effects: getting sucked into the hellfire rend in reality. Pfft. Gone. :) Go to Comment

Tables are fun, seriously show me a gamer that doesn't enjoy a good table and I will show you a failed actor.

I can see how this was part of a larger post, it reads like a footnote, which as supplements for gaming, would apply to most of the stuff on the citadel.

But this is fun, thanks for writing it.

I agree, but I decided to go with brief with the potential to expand, rather than sitting in work forever.

Not quite exaggerating. I have in-works from 2006....

The Immortal Worms
Lifeforms  (Fauna)   (Underground)
Scrasamax's comment on 2015-08-29 01:17 AM
A few questions come to mind, can they drown? Do they have any supernatural immunity to poisons or poison gas spells? Earth worms poop out 'castings' that are valuable as garden fertilizer, what do these things poop? How fast can they eat their way through stone, followed by how quickly do they 'digest' the material they consume? Are they eating their way through, or are they actually physically burrowing? If they are burrowing, how? Secreting an acid, do they have concealed teeth or a rasped radula?

Earthworms are our friends, and this is something that I did learn after I started gardening.

From the title I expected something quite different, actually. I was expecting something necromancy-ish, or divine, where the worms were immortal, or bestowed immortality, or something along those lines. These are basically stone worms.

"Telekinesis is by far the best means of manipulating and transporting these creatures."

Aaaand, I immediately pictured a wizard "walking" behind a massive swarm of worms, controlling them telekinetically, heading to the town that did him wrong all those years ago.

Additionally, a sinister Guild of Sappers and Miners have struck a deal with some chthonic elemental lord, and acquire the means to summon/control the worms. The next castle they target is in some mighty trouble. Go to Comment

I envisioned their movement through solid materials as more supernatural than mechanical - they pass through the materials as if they were soft and pliable to them. As such, I didn't put much thought into their castings. The sub was inspired by a fishing trip with my son as I was baiting the hook.

As for immunity/resistance to poisons, I believed I covered that off with the passage:

"They are not indestructible, but are able to survive within the earth to the depths of several miles, subject to the immense pressures, temperatures and the toxicity of both air and stone"

So, metals, acids, CO, CO2, H2SO, etc, are all found in the depths, so all inorganic poisons and simple organic poisons would be protected

The title is a people's name for the things - they are effectively immortal. Another piece of somewhat dangerous, somewhat odd, magic to throw in one's world, not unlike the Voracious Slug.

4.5/5 Excellant take on the ubiquitus rot grub. You took a mildly good idea and breathed total life into it! I don't know what everybody else saw in it but this is great! Go to Comment

Val, on the worms passing through solid materials part, it came off as being mechancial to me as a reader. I suspect that Scras might have felt that too from his comment above. Go to Comment
Idran Motaer
NPCs  (Major)   (Criminal/Espionage)
Scrasamax's comment on 2015-08-29 01:25 AM
I see him being a rogue agent, devoted to some fire goddess or avatar of destruction. The problem with arson in your typical medieval setting is that aside from the stone castles, everything is wood and thatch, and flammable. He might burn down a house, but in doing so, he's likely going to start a fire that spreads and destroys a large portion of a city, or town. Of course, this doesn't fit in with the image of the rustic idyllic countryside, but those locations have the virtue of being somewhat remote, and plainclothes murderers and mercenary scum would likely be a cheaper and more reliable alternative to Idran.

I would use him not for casual murders, but for big ones. Epic murders. The sort of murders and disasters that bards would sing songs of, and that builders would study to prevent from happening again. Burn the cathedral to kill a powerful bishop. Burn the hunting lodge where the son of the duke routinely entertains bacchanals, and so forth.
