Yes, indeed. A location rife with potential. Which is another way of saying, "what OmegaDraco said". I like the rich, layered history and new Abydos. Great job!
This is no huge submission, but it hits that sweet spot of near perfection. It really makes me want to know more about this world and the people that inhabit it. Tell us more!

Great submission, there are many adventures found in this article, including finding the tomb and the time it arises as well as surviving the town and the tomb.
The existence, history, and perpetuation of Abydos are simply outstanding. Well done Zailtais! The stage is set for a great many adventures, and it is so soundly developed that I'm getting excited about it.
We know from the story that Abydos That Was met its fate it the sandstorms brought on by the war of the gods. However, the gods who watch over the priests must still be well and active. It's not much of a stretch to think that there are still the antagonistic gods who wish to see every last shrine and treasure desecrated and stolen from the tomb city. Perhaps a good plot hook is that the Ptubastis family secretly worships those corrupting gods. In this way, the war of the gods still secretly rages on as thieves and raiders from across the world seek are manipulated through greed into wearing down the gods and priests of Abydos That Was. This would tempt good adventures to raid the tomb like everyone else, but perhaps they would find a tome or undead priest that describes who the real evil is and turns the adventures against the Ptubastis family instead.
I love the overall idea. I am personally not a fan of faeries and such but even cutting them it is a great idea. Love the though of all the pretties that have been nabbed through the years and put in nests or dropped. The place could be a great lure for gold hunters or those down on their luck. Beggers will always be taunted by the lure of the hidden treasures but since nobody has ever gotten out alive it is a huge risk.
Interesting,an area of thick thorns, small tunnels ect where only halflings, goblins fae ect can fit. Do these inner dwellers raid the outside or just keep to themselves? Welcome. 3.5 is my vote on this.
I really like this - it kind of puts me in mind of the briar patch from Brer Rabbit - and thats not a bad thing for me.
