I just half to know, what were the changes made in 2005.

But just reading that short paragraph, fills my mouth with the taste of mountain dew, shoots phantom pimple pain under my skin, and reminds me why the basis for a solid good character is a hand crossbow and a long cloak.

Basic premise to start from.  Used something similar in my currently defunct PBP - Respite.

A blast from the distant past...

Of course, Strolen didn't mention that the ruffians are actually the descendants of the mine's original owner, come to protect their claim...

The villagers actually intended to remake the mine into a temple of evil, dedicated to their secret cult; they are secretly worshippers of Mrrrrorw, Demon Lord of Rabid Housecats...

The dangerous beasts dwelling within the mine are actually Awfully Good "Wink Dogs", that strive to oppose evil even as they make numerous lascivious double-entendres...

And it's not actually a true mine at all, but a natural cavern, filled with valuable crystalline gems sacred to the local dwarves, who originally drove off the ruffians' ancestors to keep them from mining it.

(Let the players get a glance at this, then run the scenario 'stock' and watch them second-guess themselves into complete confusion as they wait for 'the other shoe to drop'!) Go to Comment

The first sub on a great site... It deserves some credit just for that. Go to Comment

I'm going to use this bad boy this afternoon.  I haven't decided what twists I'll include.

Wow a piece of ancient history, the first ever sub for Strolen's!

It's fascinating to compare the beginning works to the later stuff, show's how much everything's grown over the years. Go to Comment

As the year draws to a close I think it's fitting to remember the first post that started it all, and remind everyone how far we've come on the journey to excellence in all things rpg.

Found it under my new "Unvoted By" tab.  Looks like I've got quite a backlog!

I love how inbetween the bits of sarcasm are little gems of ideas. The sub may be too subtle for the sane soul to grasp, but the Strolenati can't help but fill in the blanks. This makes me want to start adding ideas.

I think we should do a Quest on writing a new version of a fragmentary or cliche-ridden sub. (An even better example would be http://strolen.com/viewing/Arrkrash).

I can't help but give this a 5. It's such a golden piece of history. That, and the voices tell me it really does contain clues to the lost treasure of the Templars and one day I'll crack it.

I'm with SE on this one, I don't care at all about the content in this sub, a pure symbolical full score for being the first of many. Go to Comment

With today's standards, you are right. But considering it was the 3rd post ever on the site almost 6 years ago, it will stay for its historical significance. All my old ones suck so don't look too hard. :) Go to Comment

Bit of a paradox there. Strong yet weak. Ok, but how is it strong and how is it weak?

Weak from it's fight with the necromancer and possibaly it's journey to this place is good, but is there anything specific about it weaknesses that could be helpful? Can only be hit by magical weapons isn't a very weak defense, unless it can't heal the damage because of it's weakened state.

Strong in what way? Since the Wagons and travelers seem to be vanishing, does it have a disintegreation attack? What is it doing that makes an entire caravan disapppear without anyone raising an alarm or any animals panicing?

Seems like a way to make a powerful foe more approachable by lower level characters. While one or more of them may get crushed by the creature, they won't have an overly difficult time of dispatching it. I don't think defeating a weakened creature should have all the benifits of one at full power and would only reward reduced experience and such. Go to Comment

This'n is a golden oldie.
Very basic, but very good and concise... Easily useable.
