This started off as a great post, but after reading for a while the neighbourhood seemed... monodimensional.

Why would the neigbourhood riot against a whorehouse, when they got slavery orphanages, opium dens and disease ridden priesthoods in there? You should think fornication would be the least of their problems?

Other than that glaring logical flaw, well, I loved most of this sub. It shows great, great promise, but it was a bit monodimensional, a bit short and it did have that faulty logic.

You're making the fatal presumption that public morality is logical. There are plenty of places in the world today where indentures and drug dens are legal or tolerated, but openly incestuous prostitutes sure wouldn't be. Go to Comment

Besides women in black, I like the general concept, too. It is a good place with a few surprises. What do these women fight for? Go to Comment

The main reason behind that is that men are the primary employers of prostitutes. While there are certainly women who enjoy the sevices of male prostitutes, there are not enough of them to support male brothels. I have had a large number of female gamers in my groups as well. Go to Comment

A nice submission, very atmospheric and i want to use the term Ironic-Neo-Gothic with the presence of women in traditional male roles, the heavy and dark architecture and the overwhelming presence of the color black being set off by the colors of the garden. Go to Comment

Well ... one of the very few general criticisms I have of this site is that too few of the entries go beyond traditional sex roles - for example, almost all of the prostitution/brothel entries involve female courtesans serving male clients.

As it happens, over the decades a full third of my players have been women, and it's been at least 50-50 in my two groups for the last several years, so I make a deliberate effort to spread out the demographics, both in terms of gender and ethnically. Go to Comment

By that same token, the overwhelming number of rulers, warriors, guildmasters and indeed pretty much everyone in a position of power or authority in history have been men. In a genuinely egalitarian world, I fancy there wouldn't be the same stigma attached or the automatic presumption (among many others) that men are the only ones who want no-frills, no-fuss sex. It's not all that big, actually. The temple is a "cathedral" only in the Catholic Church sense; it's the "cathedral church" of a major player in the Ratri faith's hierarchy.

It is open to the public, though it has far less of a "congregation," per se, as opposed to supplicants seeking aid from the faith's ecclesiastical fighting order. Warwik City is the center of the Ratrian religion (and the Temple District of the New City has the High Basilica of the faith), and there are seven other temples to Ratri in the city, all with large, active congregations.

I love the visuals. It's difficult to get a sense of scale though. My first thoughts were big, but I toned it down after seeing the number of residents.

Is the cathedral open to the public? I can't foresee many guests, but it seems like a great deal of the cathedral was designed to impress.

Simply a good solid location. Upped it .5 for the linkage you are taking advantage. Looking for the need of the codex but that may come and cause a changed vote. Go to Comment

Update: Mm, I hadn't planned on it being a "codex." I think the new site formatting's automatically taking those recent subs of mine and calling them codices. Go to Comment
